Mich Was hi there! I can answer as well. Master Mason from Michigan in the United States here. You are most certainly eligible to join if you 1. Believe in a supreme being (any religion besides Satanism), 2. Are a man, and 3. Are of good moral character (most lodges don’t accept folks with felonies but if that’s an issue check with the Grand Lodge in your State/Country. As for the venous malformation, if you have trouble standing for long periods of time or kneeling you’re welcome to request a chair for your initiation. There is some walking involved but it’s common practice to have elderly folks initiated. Most can do it without accommodations but accommodations can be made if needed. I had to sit during my Master’s obligation because of tendinitis in my knees. I hope this helps!

The issue is not one of confidentiality as our "secrets" have been well known for years. There is a small chance they may overlook it, if it happened many years ago and can be put down to "youthful indiscretion".....and you have since lead a good life. Scotland has the highest percentage of freemasons per population (up to 10%). It's why some people get harsh prison sentences while (mostly men) committing far worse crimes get off or leniency. So many judges are freemasons. It's a handshake society.

The Shrine is an appendant Degree of Freemasonry. A man must be a Master Mason before he can become a Shriner.

It's really not hard to become a mason, just have to get initiated in at one of their lodges. I suppose the hard part is rising in the ranks though and growing the trust of the organization.
I left freemasonry after several years out of boredom. I found being a member of the O.T.O. much more interesting- they do have secrets and yet, are less secretive about the 'great secrets' than freemasons.

@Heartless The "dues" vary from Lodge to Lodge. Currently, my "dues" are around £300 per year. Freemasons may date whoever they wish. We wear our regalia at our meetings. From time to time, we wear them for civic events. The 33rd Degree cannot be bought. It is an honorary Degree, awarded for many years of service to the Scottish Rite and to the community in general. The fact that you aspire to the 33rd Degree tells me that you are not Masonic material. Do not apply.

The secret isn’t a magnificent one, the secret reminds each brother of the importance of honesty. You gave your word to keep the modes of recognition a secret and just like it says in the video, if you can’t keep a simple password and handshake secret then you’re not very trustworthy.
Mich Was hi there! I can answer as well. Master Mason from Michigan in the United States here. You are most certainly eligible to join if you 1. Believe in a supreme being (any religion besides Satanism), 2. Are a man, and 3. Are of good moral character (most lodges don’t accept folks with felonies but if that’s an issue check with the Grand Lodge in your State/Country.
As for the venous malformation, if you have trouble standing for long periods of time or kneeling you’re welcome to request a chair for your initiation. There is some walking involved but it’s common practice to have elderly folks initiated. Most can do it without accommodations but accommodations can be made if needed. I had to sit during my Master’s obligation because of tendinitis in my knees.

There is a small chance they may overlook it, if it happened many years ago and can be put down to "youthful indiscretion".....and you have since lead a good life. The "secrets" aren't really that secret as I can look up just about anything online now. Masons know their "secrets" aren't secret but the internal idea that they are a secret is what matters most to them. Didn't take me long to look up the "passwords" online. Easy. But knowing that doesn't make you a Mason anymore than knowing how to administer prescription pills to someone makes you a nurse.
People tend to fear things they don't understand. They also like to make up stories for things they can't comprehend -- like the Flat Earthers that don't understand the earth is a globe.

they do have secrets and yet, are less secretive about the 'great secrets' than freemasons.

In a Lodge room, there is a pedestal where the Holy Bible is laid, plus the holy book of anyone who professes another religion. It is ONLY called that because the books are laid there. That is the ONLY similarity between that an an altar in a church. In England (where the worlds oldest Grand Lodge is) the books lay on the Masters pedestal... there is NO altar. The same is true for other countries around the world.
The "mock killings"? In the Third Degree ONLY, a fictional character is killed because he will not betray a trust. His integrity is so strong, that he is willing to give his life rather than betray that trust. In the ceremony, the Candidate plays that part. It is symbolic of him being encouraged to be as honourable as that man that was killed, Hiram Abif. But be assured.. NO harm comes to ANY Freemason in Masonic activity. The character of Abif is fictional... he never existed. He is killed by three blows to the head.... left temple right temple and forehead. the Candidate receives the same blows... but only a gentle tap to those areas.. you hardly feel it.. remember, it's symbolic.
The rolled up pant leg is to display to all those present, two things. You have to be male.. and have no criminal convictions. The bared leg helps to prove these things.
1. You are a man. Men have hairy legs... (most) women do not.
2. You are a free man and do not have a criminal past... because if you HAD been convicted of a crime, the manacle scars would still be visible...
A bared leg would easily be able to assure us of those things.

You know the way you go to a concert & you're just in the audience? No back-stage pass, no VIP lounge, just stood there in the crowd? Not a member of the band, not even a roadie? That's you, the non-mason. You're a paying spectator. The masons own the burger vans, the gate, the stage, the band & the porta-loos.. It's a Club - chances are you're not in it. Or maybe you are - or your neighbour is. That cop you just got roasted by - they are. Life is the same as that concert - it's a Club.. and chances are you ain't in it.

@SteelWolf13 - No mason in its ages long history has ever taken a "blood oath" This fallacy is derived from Anti-Masons on a smear campaign, There is some really interesting articles on these Anti-Masons and name lists on Wikipedia - authors who peddle untruths to make a living.
For the record , "Blood oaths" was an ancient custom in ancient Israel when Kings or Tribal leaders would each cut their wrist , hold it to the other party's wrist to mingle their blood, as a sign of fidelity and an oath to honour the tribal or other agreement they had forged.

How much are the dues? Do freemasons mostly date Eastern Stars? How often do freemasons have to wear the uniform? How much is it to advance to 33rd degree Mason?
@Heartless The "dues" vary from Lodge to Lodge. Currently, my "dues" are around £300 per year. Freemasons may date whoever they wish. We wear our regalia at our meetings. From time to time, we wear them for civic events. The 33rd Degree cannot be bought. It is an honorary Degree, awarded for many years of service to the Scottish Rite and to the community in general.
The fact that you aspire to the 33rd Degree tells me that you are not Masonic material. Do not apply.

@@Heartless-oi3sp Pros. You get to rub shoulders with like minded individuals. You get to develop yourself as a person. You get to work together to help those who cannot help themselves. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. There is a great social side and if you like the ceremonial and esoteric side, we have that too.

I AM THE ONE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN IN A SECRET SOCIETY, BUT HAD REACHED OVER 360 AS A BUILDER OF A COLLABORATIVE of secret societies without my knowledge of knowing what I had learned were apart of secret societies. I had never heard of secret societies, I have always been a loner and self kept, never hung in crowds or with people, it was just my nature, I were always silent and observant it doesn't take me long to understand something by looking at the picture of it, but they attacked me severely accusing me of telling their secrets when I didn't even know who they were, nor if I had spoken secrets, i would just explain what i were seeing sometimes and what i may had encountered with things i studied.

State secrets and information is different, for it defends a nation and can defend its people from panic. The point is your government, because I'm guessing you are a Yank, have been gathering data with bogus passed lars to spy, not just on its own people but across the world. This would be OK if the information was just being collected for intelligence, but its not. Its used to shame blackmail and remove or control opponent's. Be it from the left or the right, this information is stored and used as a weapon. The question is, do you except this as just or not??
