The crate if for surplus M53 machine gun with a tripod (Yugoslav copy of MG42). It came from army stores in Kneževac, Belgrade, Serbia. The newspaper is Pobjeda from Podgorica, Montenegro, pre - 2010, since it is still in cyrillic alphabet. Since one of the ads is for a ericsson mobile phone from 1995, it is quite possible that 999 you found is a part of the date, 1999. That implies further that those magazines are seized/captured during Kosovo conflict (KLA would use gear and weapons obtained from everywhere possible, especially former Warsaw bloc weapons, which were abudant on the black market during the nineties), than brought to Belgrade, conserved and dumped in surplus warehouses. That icky-thicky-yacky paste you have on some of the magazines is dried out grease that Yugoslav army of the era would use for long term weapon conservation. Now, how it ended up in the U.S. is maybe a slightly more interesting question, isn't it? How do you like this theory?

The 1 is an inspector stamp which in the earlier types were prevalent also there’s a Cyrillic letter electropenciled at the top . I have over 300 yugo magazines and no one is the same . Also the plum magazine it’s a blood stain . You have history in your hands
Interesting to see a link to an article I wrote. You were right about the East German mags - the first one shown being a very late example (note the distinctive floorplate). Those two digits stamped on the right side of the rib of the Yugo mags are most likely an inspector stamp. Kind of hard to have made one in 1929 or 1966 when the rifle they were used in was adopted in 1970. Very nice mags though, and I would have purchased some of them for my collection given the choice.
You lucky dog. They still have some? I’m down in Athens. And yes, that one is an EG. Love my EG mags. Edit: just called and they said they still have some. They said they are all Yugo. $19.99 is about average, but it’d definitely be worth it if there are actually some of the EG’s and others in the mix. May go check it out . Good to see someone that gets as excited about them as much as I do though haha I have around 100 various combloc mags from all over the world.
The mag at 3:00 is def a rarer East German. you was right, if you look at the bottom of the mag on the base plate it has a oval that’s beveled on the end.only that version of EG mag has that. I have 1 and they are perfect looking. Yugo mags are good too but I’ve had bad luck with getting surplus ones that have broken spring inside. I’ve never heard that mentioned anywhere else so maybe it was just me
I got a whole bunch of surplus scratch and dents from apex recently and they fixed up nicely. I can't come up with a conclusive origin for most of them. Lol...One has up to 10 stamps on the rear spine and I have yet to figure where its from. Definitely gonna order more.
@@kingshanethe1st Most either had a little rust to very pitted, but fully functional. There was a handful with pretty deep dents. I used a piece of wood just under 7/8" and placed it at the dent supporting both sides if the mag. Get these from harveys pistol and pawn!? I live an hour out from Knoxville and still stop once a weekend to buy some! I bought the last of the chinese mags but they have another crate of yugos! A few polish as well
Pretty sure those were def east German just cause of the very defined weld marks on the top of feed lips. Usualy a dead giveaway. Edit: That brown/plum color one might be Egyptian but don't quote me on that

Them east German mags look pretty killer!
Ak mags are like solving a riddle, loads of fun! Safe shootin!
OKC ✌️
Great score and video, I wouldn't mind the Yugo w/ the S/N if you'd sell it. The prefix is probably a 'C' as that was a common prefix for Yugo M70's.

What a great deal and score thanks for sharing.
If the back end only is ramped on the follower it’s East German. I can’t really tell on yours, but Hungarian ones have nice crisp lines too.

Surplus mags are so cool but I HATE cleaning them. No more for me unless they're super rare.

These cosmoline soaked Yugos are available all day long for less than $19/piece at gunpartscorp.
Yugos are my lease favorite variant of surplus magazine. I really dislike the bho feature and they are horribly unreliable.
