Hah! was looking for inspiration for an industrial purpose 'aircraft carrier' of my own that was more like real world naval vs my usual ships. I just started on it (focusing on the command deck first and expanding as needed), and this here is the first video I come across. Very nice, I am excited as I have just come back to SE but found I wasn't feeling creative this time around. Im sure we all get those days...flying around in circles wasting time, fuel (and now oxygen). You nailed the modular portion just the way I was hoping to plan the vessel too, I wanted to expand it as needed and your method appears to be both efficient and visually appealing. I am building mine in survival, which I have done for all my large ships ..somehow...so the modular expansion is important for me as I don't build based on theoretical usage but on practicality within the limits of me playing mostly solo with the occasional friends joining in. Thanks very much for the inspiration! Question: You don't light the interiors, is this mostly for saving CPU for anybody that downloads this vessel? While I value lighting greatly; for a vessel available on workshop, I imagine that its a great way for people to make it their own by lighting it themselves.
this is awesome! I've just started to play space engineers and i've stumbled upon this. And my mind is blown! So far i've only built tiny little mining pods.
Using an AA turret consisting of 2 Gatling guns on a rotary platform mounted on a moving platform to attack it from the bottom would be one of the weaknesses of it. The turrets won't help against drop pods since most drop pods has built in AI turret counter measure (putting decoys on pistons that would extend out the sides after deployment + gyroscope spinning it once it deploys) add that with a drill or grinder it can easily penetrate the the flight deck. Adding manned turrets would take care of it and you can simply add wither a gravitational shield on the bottom to prevent missile attacks or heavy armor + turrets on the bottom. sorry for the long comment lol
Cool build! I like the redundant O2 and how well you've implemented the docking system. It's odd that the air tight doors have the huge gap, but are still considered "sealed".
Missile turrets are great deterrents, especially in large numbers as you have; however, their accuracy and rate of fie against more agile craft is a serious weakness. In my opinion, you should definitely add gatling turrets to cover against more agile fighter/ bomber craft or small and agile 'large' ships. The missile turrets will just have too hard of a time fending those types of swarm craft off. More sluggish, larger vessels will be chewed apart easily though. Another important thing is that gatlings are also much better at shooting down hostile missiles- missile turrets not so much. Other than that, this is very nice (except for the rather plain interior, but that can't really be helped...).
I'd personally love to see a small ship carrier like this in a more manageable and easier to build size. This ship you built would crush most fleets with fighter, and keep any on board safe. Getting some of those elements in a smaller design which could transport fighter and give them a "wall" to hide behind would be great.
Doesn't seem to be too bad of a ship! Personally, I'd decrease the size of the ship by reducing the amount of hangars to about 10 total hangars or so. You can use the remaining space to deploy or hold large munitions for the fighters to carry to bombard a station from long range. It would also allow two hangars to have projectors so you can be producing drone ships while the 8 other manned fighters are engaging the enemy. Just my two cents on the carrier, great work!
+prizum217 I'd put projectors in the actual manned fighters too so you can quickly repair them when they dock. Put some welders in there, maybe use the welder pad mod to cover a bigger area when they're docked.
This is a very impressive ship sir. Only a couple of critisims, there appears to be 0 anti missile systems, and a massive blind spot beow due to all the turrets being on the top of the ship.
Sava Think about it though, this ship would always travel as part of a fleet. If enemies were detected, other ships with larger weapons would go on ahead to engage them and the carrier would deploy its fighters from afar, so no, the battle wouldn't come to the carrier, the fleet would go to it.
That might be true. But consider it from the attacking point of view. The ships that were around the carrier are now pushing forward leaving a very juicy target. Take out that carrier and they will loose the ability to repair & rearm fighters and larger craft. Not to mention the supplies that thing could carry. Now given the size of your command deck, that ship could be the point where an admiral would be to manage the fleet.
You should make a ship like a recover ship so it can recover wreckage or a damaged ship after a battle let's say the "multi crude gunship" that can shed its armor.
Ah, the great creations just keep on coming - nice one, Wedge :D I'm also mildly envious because, as Teddanator and ***** will tell you, design is NOT one of my strong points XD
I think it would be cool if after you made a ship, you took a design of that ship and modified it as if it had been through combat and had been modified over time, such as expanding certain area such as a dedicated repair area or reinforced sections. Basically, a veteran version of each ship.
I suggest getting the radar dish laser antenna mod, it's just a bigger version of a laser antenna/comms radar, however it is mounted like a turret and spins like one. It would fit right in on the top of that, as real warships often have large dishes like the one the mod adds.
A while ago when Space Engineers first came out I had an idea to build a large Titan Class Battlecruiser. But alas, I do not own a computer to play the game. If you would like to build it I have thought through it quite a bit and have figured out most of the details.
If the ship is modular, it would make sense to improve it's resilience by spreading out of all the support systems among the modules. One well placed charge could take out your entire O2 storage system.
They tended to take damage when I tried that. The impact of the merge would deform the blocks and eventually break them. Using hangar doors avoids this problem.
Add a large escape ship to the bottom, probably flush with the hull, that can detach and fly away while the carrier is destroyed if it goes down to that.
Use connectors in each of those four corners to provide it with looks and a more secure fitting so as to inside combat situations provide better security should that connection come under heavy fire
cool carrier. did they in the meantime change the way how you can dock to another vessel/a station with an airtight connection? it sucks that the mergeblock itself isn't airtight :
Great carrier for multiplayer, but i dont really know how the game works, is there a multiplayer mode yet ? Ok you can play with friends in survival mode but there is a multiplayer with other players in different planets and in space, and maybe a way to recruit pilots to operate fighters ?
***** If you think about it though, a carrier is not meant to go anywhere near the front line, they are better designed as mobile bases that sit at a distance rather than be right in the fray. For that reason, arming it to the teeth didn't seem like much of a good idea. Besides, a couple of fighters could be held back just to provide it with protection
well even modern carriers have point defense. its because you have forgotten something. cruise missiles. or long range variants ive seen videos of people actually building missiles they can remote control into a target. but point defense is also usuable agianst the rockets. fighters can only do so much.
Well this ship definately gives me some ideas of my own. I just recently built an advanced fighter, and an assault troop ship, perhaps my next large ship will be a ground assault carrier like a space version of the us navy amphibious assault ships. Thanks
Any chance u could build unsc infinity not full size but big enough to put 10 red ships are ships that are a bit more bigger and it needs to have lots of weapons and big hangers for fighters and pelicans
Hi liked the carrier when I first saw it I thought it was the valiant from Doctor Who (I think that's what it was called) I did also like the docking system. keep up the good work. peace
Lovely ship, again. I wonder if you're still playing this game, would you possibly try to update the Nest carrier to work with the fleet command script. This ship's tremendous size especially makes it capable of really using that script to it's potential, I'd feel.
+Jake Smith It should run OK on even modest machines, it just gets stupidly laggy when you start putting big ass ships in there or lots of little ones (or lots of big ass ships and little ships lol). It's not all that well optimised at the moment so it doesn't even run amazingly well on top end hardware. I think the work they're doing on adding planets will greatly improve performance as they've had to re-write a LOT of the engine code to get it working. I'm hoping they've got proper or at least better multi-threaded support with them. Get it anyway. It's amazing! Once the planets and new multiplayer drops it'll be even more amazing.
In the hangers i would have drones that targeted hostiles.... and my ships on the top... and i would have some machine guns on the sides to possibly shoot down missiles.
+Daniel Schlorf I'm assuming you mean Battlestar Galactica. Even half scale versions of that thing lag like hell lol. Setting up the pistons for the retractable hangar pods is also troublesome in multiplayer. Pistons love to go insane and we all know the perils of using landing gear!
this is really cool man I love the airlock walkway system thats totally awesome, now I'm thinking I wonder if this guy can make a transformable veritech fighter? Well can you? :)
oh, all those windows ... severe decompression hazard :P It might be horribly square, but id of covered all the glass segments with hanger doors to prevent decompression of critical areas like the bridge.
You'd have a bunker like control room as a backup for a ship this size anyway. Fighters keep the fight at a distance and if they fail the pilot and other people controlling it retreat into the center of the ship, well covered by turrets and armor ;)
Your voice makes it sound like you're presenting a new yacht and its many features. Good stuff.
Kertlund it does
Nice ship, but it still needs interior lightning. Otherwise it has everything it needs (except a hotdog stand)
This is just awesome Wedge! It all fits really well, has a rather nice design and well thought out features..
Nice build. Its pretty compact and well thought out.

its a work of art love the docking system
this is awesome! I've just started to play space engineers and i've stumbled upon this. And my mind is blown! So far i've only built tiny little mining pods.

That docking system is so simple and brilliant...
Awesome video. Concise and enthralling description and tour! I just found your channel and I am totally subscribing.
Cool build! I like the redundant O2 and how well you've implemented the docking system. It's odd that the air tight doors have the huge gap, but are still considered "sealed".

The docking port design is quite smart. I was just thinking of using merge block for the whole corridor
Actually most impressed by the docking port rather than the ship, although that ship's pretty great too :P
You have taken space engineers to higher level ....P.S. It is awesome
I'd personally love to see a small ship carrier like this in a more manageable and easier to build size. This ship you built would crush most fleets with fighter, and keep any on board safe. *****Otherwise, I still love your ship design, it's so epic!
Respect man. This ship looks just awesome. :D
Hey, you used the new airlock system!
Skythedragon Thanks again for telling me about that, it's so much better than the one I made.
and now I need to make a smaller version for my modular ship!
Skythedragon hey man love the pro pic :D
Wedgehog hey can you do a planetary def system using the RG system? (like if you want him to do this)
Skythedragon nice pic

i like your docking corridor . Good idea!

exelsiar And that is with Vanilla weapons. Try using some of the mods and you'll see this ship is floating scrap
Sava You aren't meant to take carriers into the heat of battle though.
Funny thing about the heat of battle, it normally comes to you.
Sava Think about it though, this ship would always travel as part of a fleet. If enemies were detected, other ships with larger weapons would go on ahead to engage them and the carrier would deploy its fighters from afar, so no, the battle wouldn't come to the carrier, the fleet would go to it.

I like your carrier. Your fighters look cool too.
Very, very nice design.
now youre just showing of great work
What happens if it gets attacked from below?
+Jeremy Springfield You fire the crew of the supporting fleet for not doing their job properly.
+Wedgehog Or you just add some turrets beneath, lel
+Bendernolichy genius !
+Jeremy Springfield It's an aircraft carrier, surely they'd have atleast 2 fighters to help defend it.
+Jeremy Springfield CVA's always have a CAP.
You should make a ship like a recover ship so it can recover wreckage or a damaged ship after a battle let's say the "multi crude gunship" that can shed its armor.
Just awesome! Love your work, keep it up!
Great build! May I suggest a drone version of the Avocet?
Very nice. I also built one like this but more US carrier like. Less bulkier, longer and a bit wider.
Reeeeeaaaaallllyyyyyyy like this awesome ship and i would be really interested in another episode seeing this baby working X-)
that would be awesome
Ah, the great creations just keep on coming - nice one, Wedge :D

I think you could be a bit more energetic with your delivery but this was good! Fantastic carrier
2:00 With the technology being so advanced, tooltips through "google glasses" would make sense.
I suggest getting the radar dish laser antenna mod, it's just a bigger version of a laser antenna/comms radar, however it is mounted like a turret and spins like one. It would fit right in on the top of that, as real warships often have large dishes like the one the mod adds.
What is that ship at 4:14? It's really cool, I wanna download it on workshop!

Cool airlock system, but you can simply have angled blocks meet around the merge block to hold air.
They tended to take damage when I tried that. The impact of the merge would deform the blocks and eventually break them. Using hangar doors avoids this problem.
I was not aware of that. Now we need a corner hanger block.

Looks great!

That use of the airtight doors as an airlock...SMART.
How do people do this stuff...?
you could use merge blocks to seal up the weird corridor holes
cool carrier. did they in the meantime change the way how you can dock to another vessel/a station with an airtight connection? it sucks that the mergeblock itself isn't airtight :
one cuestion: the condor enters on the compartments?
What are you PC's system specifications?
I would love to see a smaller, dual deck carrier with a deck on both the topside and bottomside, for those small private servers!
you should add a top bit on the landing pad and make the entire under part a storage part for ONLY SMALL crafts
do you already have and industrial support ship?
Looks cool, but you need a CIC section for fighter operations; the control bridge is too easily targeted IMO.
nice, very nice.. liked and subbed, looking forward to more
Great carrier for multiplayer, but i dont really know how the game works, is there a multiplayer mode yet ? Ok you can play with friends in survival mode but there is a multiplayer with other players in different planets and in space, and maybe a way to recruit pilots to operate fighters ?
I think you will become a successful person because you put a lot of time and editing in your videos. REPLY if possible THANKS!!!
you are a lot better at this than LastStandGamer
+Bloo Jay they are both god don't single one out
Additionally, this guy can spell, and use correct words.
+MasterChief ghy (Masterchief) For most times they have no idea what they are actually doing and they spread wrong info like crazy
Mordecai Featherfield your wrong
+Bloo Jay there is no feud going on between them, so dont say one is better than the other. we are all equals.
Looks epic
One word ... Amazing! Liked and subbed :)
you can download a airproef docking system on the workshop
Your the best at space engineers
Nice work !
love the carrier
not much point defense on it. and was their any fire power along the bottom
***** If you think about it though, a carrier is not meant to go anywhere near the front line, they are better designed as mobile bases that sit at a distance rather than be right in the fray. damn breh nicely done
use 8 merge blocks around the door with light armor blocks behind where the door is should make air tight
Hi liked the carrier when I first saw it I thought it was the valiant from Doctor Who (I think that's what it was called) I did also like the docking system. keep up the good work.
peace
Would definitely not be happy if someone parked that thing near my planet, bloody hell that could put a damper on anybody's day!
+ThatDutchguy I crashed it into a planet earlier, didn't make too much of a mess which was surprising.
Lovely ship, again. I wonder if you're still playing this game, would you possibly try to update the Nest carrier to work with the fleet command script. This ship's tremendous size especially makes it capable of really using that script to it's potential, I'd feel.
Whats the specs on your machine? how much ram etc, considering buying SE but worry my rig wont handle it

Badass. Keep it up!

epic design!!!!!!!!!!
why would you use that fighter when you have a ship like that
frickin amazing man!
You should make the UNSC spacecraft form halo reach during the campaign. Awesome vid btw keep up the good work!
Can you build a Battle star Galatia???
+Daniel Schlorf I'm assuming you mean Battlestar Galactica. Even half scale versions of that thing lag like hell lol. Setting up the pistons for the retractable hangar pods is also troublesome in multiplayer. Pistons love to go insane and we all know the perils of using landing gear!
Very good sir.
what if they added planets like earth so you could land on it and make ground bases and space stations? probably too complicated to code
this is really cool man I love the airlock walkway system thats totally awesome, now I'm thinking I wonder if this guy can make a transformable veritech fighter? Well can you? :)
Why's the interior so dark?
+TwentyFirstPilot I was trying to stop the ship from lagging everything to hell so I didn't fit lights given they are resource hogs.
+Wedgehog
Aren't interior lights pretty easy to run? Spotlights take a ton of processing power, but that's because they generate shadows.
By the time the ship was built, I was running at 16 FPS so I didn't want to slow it down any more than that.
+Wedgehog Hah. Yeah, that's fair.
If you really wanted to make it look airtight you could just add merge blocks in the corners, but it might not look a good as it did before..
What if you make furniture using small ships
Very nice.
Okay kan you build a Star trek feemd ship dat can flay in atmosphere and has the 3 Decrotife DLC ?
Fricking badass
which mod is this sky or planet?
Panoukos A. It's just a skybox I found on the steam workshop.
Wedgehog damn it looks so reall :OO can you tell me the name ?
oh, all those windows ... severe decompression hazard :P

can you try and make a 'space mine layer ship' for territory defence
can you make a survival multiplayer video in space engineers with that ship
The ship at 1:50 looks like a Moa from Eve online.
Suggest maybe a fighter reconstruction bay(or retrofitting the hangars with reconstruction equipment
i dont have space engineers yet, and i was wondering if it would run on my pc
