Now there are people who consider the rubbish of south Indian film industry as their heroes - a real shame. In Jaffna and Batticaloa there were several efforts to publish periodicals providing space for local novelists. These never succeeded because of the South Indian rubbish like Kumuthan, Anandavikadan and Kalki were undercutting the local talents. This is cultural oppression. The editor of Kalaimahal, another south Indian rubbish publication even commented that our publications should have footnotes to explain Jaffna spoken Tamil. Eelam Tamils speak better Tamil than the Indian counterparts, who cannot utter a sentence without using English. Regarding fine arts, Jaffna Tamils too have talents in fine arts. Batticaloa has fine Natukuthu traditions. We do not need the Dappa (rubbish) film actors to come and shake their bottoms in the name of art. We still have many fighters with war wounds and missing limbs. We also have mothers, fathers, wives and sisters who have lost loved ones and many others are still fighting to know what happened to their loved ones. They are the ones we should support and not paying Rs25,000 to see them shaking their bottoms on stage or paying 40,000 to take a selfie. To many youths in Jaffna are being manipulated by money making machines, using the rubbish from S India. Drugs being pushed into schools by the army of Sri Lanka definitely working.
