    I was going to get one years ago, but didn't, because I thought it was something totally different than it was. Someone explained incorrectly to me that it changed the size of the nib, lol... When I found out that it really only changed the softness of the nib, I was upset... and didn't get it. Not at pilot but at my own silliness. It's great to review older pens in our collection. I like to think about shopping our collections because we might have some pens that are great that have been forgotten for some bright shinny pens. It's one of the reasons why I bought some clear pen draws to store them, so I can see what I have more easily. Doing so, I realized that I have a thing for colorful pens.

      I agree about shopping our own collections. We own some real treasures, and, especially as a collection grows, it's easy to forget them under the new!

    Dear Mr Waski...What a beautiful pen...its on my list! I adore all Pilot pens, there is just something special about their nibs. My latest is the Pilot Custom heritage FA nib- just beautiful. My absolute favourite is the Pilot Falcon- Its soft, flexy, a wet writer- yes it looks like I am in love with a modern pen- I almost never say that! I even love my 10 year old Pilot petit plastic throwaway pen- the nib is just great. I have managed to tinker and just refill the plastic cartridge with ink- its always nearby and never without ink in it. I have the vintage Wahl but its never been inked by me and I also have a parker sterling silver ciselle with a cuff near the nib that you can turn. Thank you, Mand Xx

    Enjoyed this one more than usual. A very cool looking pen with that finish, classic black classy pen. I have wondered about it fo years. The nib adjustment cantilever is similar to the1930s Wahl-Eversharp Doric, though I believe that one had a reputation of not being very reliable, though I would someday like to find a working one I could afford. I do have an Eversharp Amethyst Shell late 30s short Doric Vac Fil with a nib marked Flexible. And another “lady’s pen” early 40s dark blue gold stripe cap Skyline lever fill, nib marked Manifold. Both pens work great now that I know how to use their nibs (more or less). The Doric is XF and has nice line variation to a B. The Skyline I have used to write checks making the carbon nicely with pressure without taxing the nib. Thanks for this review and to all the commentators and those replying who reminded me it is time to ink up my vintage Eversharps and appreciate them again. Darn, I guess the Justus “just” went on my wish list.

    Posting nibs for accounting purposes tend to be quite firm. Could explain why you prefer the "hard" setting when writing math.
    Still have yet to get a Pilot. Have dipped a toe into Japanese pens finally, however. Both Platinum, one for the American market (not a President, but branded "President" apparently to avoid confusion with Platignum. Aerometric filler, pre 1969, no clue beyond that, though it looks like an Honest 60, but with the aerometric filling system instead of cartridge.) And a Platinum pocket pen.
    Hope you continue to enjoy this pen for decades to come!
    And yes, there's a similar nib made by Wahl-Eversharp. Unrestored, I'll bet you could afford it. Seen 2 recently on eBay for under $200.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  Год назад +1

      That's good to know about the nib. Yes, it just seems right to have a firm nib when I do math. I don't have a posting nib, so might be something to add to my collection. I do have a super-stiff "Carbon Copy Nib."
      Interesting about the vintage Platinums. I'm not sure what the President is. But I do like their vintage pocket pen!
      Thank you for telling me about the Wahl-Eversharp (maybe). Yes, at that price, I would consider it. Must stay away from eBay!

      @@WaskiSquirrel An Esterbrook posting that's smooth for an extra fine is the 9450.
      A Manifold for carbon copies in extra fine would have been very similar, so you might have a close version already. (Posting seems to have been done with an extra fine because ledgers tend to have small spaces.)

      It’s the same with my pen. The Soft setting seems to lay down a little more ink without necessarily affecting the overall line-width, though.

    • @WaskiSquirrel

      Probably true. I think more ink comes out when soft, but the line width doesn't seem much different.

    Good to see you last night with Hemingway Jones. I like the idea of having a hard or soft setting for the nib. Is the cantilever difficult to clean? Very nice pen and a true survivor. Is this a better pen than the Pilot Custom 823 ? Just curious.

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 Год назад

      The cantilever isn’t really too hard to clean, but takes a little attention and patience.
      I much prefer the Justus 95, overall, to the 823 and a lot of other comparably priced (or cheaper) Pilot pens. It is a unique Pilot pen and will never leave my collection.

      @@sajjadhusain4146 Hello Sajjad. Nice to hear from you. Thank you for answering my questions. Here in the UK the Justus 95 and the 823 cost about the same. That was why I asked which was the better pen. Good to know you have a clear preference for the Justus 95.

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 Год назад +1

      @@davidanderson3425 Hi, David. Always good to see you post. And I’m happy to answer and help with your or others’ queries when I can.
      Earlier, (in the U.S.) the Justus 95 was a bit more expensive ($312) than the 823 ($288). Now, they are priced identically at $336, in America. Steep price, no question. I honestly do prefer the Justus 95.

    • @WaskiSquirrel
      @WaskiSquirrel  Год назад

      The cantilever takes a little more effort to clean: I remember some frustration a few times when I went to ink it up, and discovered the previous ink all over the cantilever despite cleaning it.
      I'm not sure if I have a favorite between these two pens. The Justus has more flexible writing, and it's a cartridge-converter pen. But you can't get a broad nib for it. The 823 is a stiffer nib, and you have the vacuum filler. Good luck if you have to fix it! But you can get 3 nib sizes.
      For what it's worth, I ink up the 823 more often. But I think you gave me an idea for a rodeo...

  • @sajjadhusain4146
    @sajjadhusain4146 Год назад

    I love the Justus 95 greatly. Your old review of it was partially responsible for my decision to buy the pen.
    It is a very classy, very well-made pen. I like the adjustable nib a lot. I only wish it was a little bigger. The adjustable feature is not really too gimmicky at all. While I’d have preferred an even more discernible difference between the hard and soft settings, I feel the difference is distinct, if slight. I alternate between the H and S settings regularly, depending on my mood.
    Premium priced but totally worth it (to me). I like it better than the (now) identically priced 823, for instance. The only Pilot pens I like more are the Custom 845 Urushi, Custom Urushi, Namiki Yukari Royale, and the Silvern.
    The Con-70 is over-rated. Pump filling it always seems to trap unsightly air bubbles inside the converter. I now always syringe-fill the Con-70 in my pen. It looks like a cleaner, fuller fill every time.
    My Justus 95 is always inked with Iroshizuku Syo-ro.
    The modern Justus 95 is a better pen than the vintage version of the pen. Not something you can say too often when it comes to specific models where both a vintage and modern model exist.
    The Justus 95 is an overlooked gem.

    • @WaskiSquirrel

      I really enjoy this pen. It sounds and feels classy, and it writes very well. I too was disappointed that the difference between hard and soft wasn't ore obvious, but it's enough.
      You're right: the Con-70 does get a lot of air bubbles!
      It writes well and I enjoy it very much. Any faults are forgiven when I start writing.

      I feel like what we spend is more based on income. If I were a banker, for example, I would be comfortable spending more. If I made less money than I do now, I'd spend far less. I'm not comfortable putting a specific dollar amount on it.
