@@kingofcards9516 Cossacks I recall spamming Hussar and Dragoons and just using them out of formation was way better, there was also no hard population cap from memory, and resources were not finite (except wood I guess). American Conquest had a lot of unbalanced civilisations. The Sioux for example were probably quite authentic but almost impossible to beat Europeans as they didn't have much in the way of late-game options to fight their gunpowder. That's my memory anyway, it's been a long time.

But with masses of wood collectors, which where simple archers too, one could pump around 100 of those per second, including trained units into battle. Just set a rally point past the enemy base and the sheer mass overwhelmed everything. And at the same time one could build a new lvl1 house every minute and set it also to an endless loop.
@@gaiusthejurist8445 in the old (an arguably also in the new cossacks game) the factions simply were horribly unbalanced. there was a strict hierarchy with a few factions far on top (ukraine, denmark, prussia), which were just not to beat if played the right way; to have a halfway descent game, you had to cancel them out from the beginning, otherwise it was a nowbrainer. Doing that, the hierarchy became flattened, but still remained (england would still outplay piemont in late games f.e. since they got a single rifle united that was slightly better then the others on that level)
Ahh the good ole times when battles were fought for at least an hour instead of three minutes. Back when you didnt have any bullshit one army hero units going full Yoda on the battlefield. Back when tactical thinking was required to winn the day not creating a massive cesspool i the middle. Thanks creative assembly.
Interesting how this went down even for a game Historically the Russians did attempt to alleviate pressure by hitting the French left with cavalry but the French went into square and it failed. Likewise, the French had placed the 4th Corps there purely as a big distraction while the assault in the center went down. As for the center: the Russians are able to concentrate so much force there that an assault becomes a bloody back and forth. I think it's the most brutal and difficult option to pick regardless of game which has a Borodino scenario lol (American Conquest, Columbia, the other older online games etc). Even if you win on the center through frontal assault it becomes a question of if you still even have a army left.
all i have wanted is just for a napoleonic rts game to look and play like this - but of course, for it to have singleplayer capacity.... sigh, so close to that with this mod, nothing for the singleplayer
Ultimate General: Civil War and Ultimate General: Age of Sail are great for scratching that large-scale battle itch if you're tired of the usual RTS suspects.
These old GSC games are examples of how games can be engaging as heck on almost every aspect, but fail to properly build a balanced experience in terms of gameplay, regarding gameplay mechanics.

I appreciate the effort you put in keeping this mod alive. It's a shame the hwk group just disappeared at some point, that was an experience way different than anything else. What a epic undertaking, some of those battles lasting over an hour! Talavera, Leipzig, Waterloo! Life got in the way for me, I had hoped somebody else would step forward and take charge of the Hawks once I left for good. So the massive epic Wagram is still available for download from the old Hawks site, have you guys played that yet?

i dont recall the corpses really disappearing, and even if they are, enough are made at a constant rate to please the eyes, if youre that type of person.
Raevsky’s battery does not look right, in front of the guns there were two more rows of trenches in which riflemen sat and several rows of wolf pits and wooden barriers against the cavalry, which is why the cavalry attacked this battery from the flank and not head-on as in the video.
For the cav, its programed in the more modern version of the mod for it to try to go at the flanks instead of the front, as in the old versions cav used to be quite overpowered
There are wooden obstructions along the battery's historical position. It's important to know that many different sources do not have the same level of detail. This map was made by [HWK]Stonewall who recreated it following the comprehensive source of information on the battle available at napoleonistyka.atspace.com , but some specific details may be missing either because they are not included in some sources that he read or as part of a map designing philosophy 'design by subtraction'. As for the cavalry charge, most of the events in this recording do not correspond to the real battle. The fleches were empty, for example. Because this is a competitive online match and not a recreation.
You probably should’ve stopped the cannons firing when the French attacked the redoubt and ordered them to fire a solid wall of grape shot, but then again I’m on mobile and couldn’t see the buttons. Otherwise, great showing. 2v1 is difficult!

I believe there's a few mods for Napoleon: Total War out there for such things. Some mods are really fire, honestly, such as Field Command or Napoleonic (also called "NTW") (I played with those two mods myself, they're pretty big mods that ask to pay a bit of attention when installing and uninstalling them if you don't want to mess up your files, but they completely renew the experience).
This is bad ass but we can’t lie NTW3 is the goat for this time period. However this soundtrack is elite. Wish I new what this game was when I was a kid I would have played tf out of it. My dad would have loved this RIP
unmodded AC: Fight Back is basically a more advanced and modern version of Cossacks 1, using an updated version of the engine. A modded 'gold' edition is available in the description, featuring some new factions added by modders. AC also covers a different period, later than Cossacks, and covers the Americas (Mesoamerica mostly)
At each volley shot one expects to see them drop but it´s a bit randomly only, i know it´s just critique at this point of mine but it´s what i would adress immediately upon any release.
it depends on range. If you go near an enemy unit and fire point blank, you can expect a whole line to collapse, but engagements normally start at medium range, and then get closer "advance fire". for point blank fire, you also have to time it right so your line that moves up front isnt reloading, but it requires some micromanaging

you can acquire the games for free from the links provided in description. otherwise if you insist on purchasing; not really. they both have no DRM. Not very sure about the GOG version but the steam one may have some issues with mods and some other stuff so long as you keep it in its Steam library installation directory, copy it to some other location to get rid of them.
for this mod, and the latest version, there are horse carriages but they have no use since its complicated to link them to cannons, so the cannons were made faster compared to the older base version of the mod, making artillery more practical to move around for attack
Im still a bit new to this, but theres a mechanism to tie a cannon to a carriage, in this version its useless. The horse artillery are automatically tied to horses and have a fast moving speed, though.

The Mod is HEW, Hawks European Warfare, an old mod but it can be downloaded in the video description (download 3 is the best after you translate the site from Chinese) . Theres also Stonewall's patch which replaces the mod02 file, which basically changes some unit behavior , makes guns faster, etc. We tend to set up our games on gameranger.

This is wrong, French took huge casualties and won the battle of Borodino when the Russians tactically retreated. Russia was making a trap for the French. Russians let them occupy Mosscow until their armies were re-grouped and reinforced properly. Napoleon got routed easly afterwards...
I have 16gb of RAM, but that is not necessary at all. We have several player who play them on 8gb of RAM, and the game was made back when 4gb or RAM was considered quite a bit. So 8 should be fine. I believe the game uses 4gb or RAM at any point at most.
the base game is like a regular Cossacks game, base building, etc. This mod is mainly focused on historical battles, though, so the primary focus is on the troops and tactics. The main logistics point of this mod is instead focused on reforming broken troops to keep the front line going in longer matches.
a lot of the troops on the french side were polish, if you look in the south you can see their mangled corpses as I tried to advance towards that wooded village, which was of course a death trap

I have a question for you. I got my American Conquest from GOG. Is there any difference in compatibility for the new computer and the new OS, like Windows 11?
you can acquire the games for free from the links provided in description. otherwise if you insist on purchasing; not really. they both have no DRM. Not very sure about the GOG version but the steam one may have some issues with mods and some other stuff so long as you keep it in its Steam library installation directory, copy it to some other location to get rid of them.

Horse towed cannon? It's amazing, but how in AC?
for this mod, and the latest version, there are horse carriages but they have no use since its complicated to link them to cannons, so the cannons were made faster compared to the older base version of the mod, making artillery more practical to move around for attack
@@mehmehmeh360 Original artillery was a true pain to use.
Im still a bit new to this, but theres a mechanism to tie a cannon to a carriage, in this version its useless. The horse artillery are automatically tied to horses and have a fast moving speed, though.

The Mod is HEW, Hawks European Warfare, an old mod but it can be downloaded in the video description (download 3 is the best after you translate the site from Chinese) . Theres also Stonewall's patch which replaces the mod02 file, which basically changes some unit behavior , makes guns faster, etc. We tend to set up our games on gameranger.

This is wrong, French took huge casualties and won the battle of Borodino when the Russians tactically retreated. Russia was making a trap for the French. Russians let them occupy Mosscow until their armies were re-grouped and reinforced properly. Napoleon got routed easly afterwards...
Russians always have space to retreat.
This is a multiplayer battle, obviously not an identical recreation.
I just installed the game, now ill listen some french onions song and fight the russian while singing the marseillaise hon hon hon 😂

I have 16gb of RAM, but that is not necessary at all. We have several player who play them on 8gb of RAM, and the game was made back when 4gb or RAM was considered quite a bit. So 8 should be fine. I believe the game uses 4gb or RAM at any point at most.

the base game is like a regular Cossacks game, base building, etc. This mod is mainly focused on historical battles, though, so the primary focus is on the troops and tactics. The main logistics point of this mod is instead focused on reforming broken troops to keep the front line going in longer matches.
Great battle video from my favorite game. If you can, try to find something with the Polish Army from this period.
a lot of the troops on the french side were polish, if you look in the south you can see their mangled corpses as I tried to advance towards that wooded village, which was of course a death trap
