      Which is to be expected, a lot of these are people who left the traditional work environment at a young age, perhaps even as a teenager, and who make a living primarily by selling their personality to children. They've never had the opportunity to learn things like deference and respect and conscientiousness, that are essential to navigating life outside their internet bubbles. They basically approach the world as children because their job depends on them doing so.

    I think the main reason why people don’t like seeing influencers at the same events as “real celebrities” is because most of the influencers that get invited to events don’t really provide much honestly. They usually vlog a 30 second clip of their lives on TikTok and are conveniently attractive, fit, etc. When we think of “real celebrities” we often think of actors, singers, producers, writers, directors, designers, etc. They are providing something of value whether that’s art wise or anything else. Most influencers (except Emily and others who make social or political commentary) aren’t really providing much honestly.

    • @parana03
      @parana03 6 месяцев назад +102

      Agreed, I see “real celebrities” as people with talent or skill that they worked hard to perfect like singers and actors who deserve the recognition they get. Influencers just seem like they didn’t work that hard for their following, plus a lot of their content creation on TikTok doesn’t involve half the effort that more long-form content creators like RUclipsrs put into their videos (editing, scripts, etc.).
      It’s not that people have an issue with influencers getting famous too easily, it’s just that it seems like they got famous doing nothing 🤷‍♀️

      They provide content people clearly enjoy, maybe not you but others and they probably smile when they see their favourite creator has just posted. Also I really don't like the whole "influencers just look hot and that's it" narrative. Like, there is probably a lot of work and talent behind this stuff. Especially if you consider how, at least in the beginning, before they can afford to hire someone, they are an entire production studio wrapped up in one person, including, but not limited to, location scout, makeup artist, camera man, sound designer, writer and editor. And making lives also requires talent, you have to be really on your feet entertaining, good at improvisation and be charming , which are all not abilities everyone has, I personally don't think I would be able to do that.

A real celebrity is somebody who enters a room and 90% have an idea of who they are and what they do. B or C list celebrities, who are known for like one show or a couple of obscure movies wouldn’t usually be invited to these kinds of events, so people expect to know most of the people there. Influencers, even with sizable followings, feel more like C-list celebrities. Because outside of their followers, most people have never even seen or heard of them.

You having never heard of them doesn't erase the fact that they have millions of views.

      the thing is that many “traditional” celebrities become who they are by talent and hard work, to be able to act decently, to sing or create music, basically any form of art that people around the world can appreciate. but on the other hand, the stereotypical influencer has little to no talent/ art to portray, which is why they’re supposedly a lower level as compared to the real celebs.
      the difficult thing is in the modern day, there are less and less actors/ singers who are rly rly good ( a lot of them are influencers who decide to try acting or singing, or basically just a pretty face. this is SUPER common in east asia like korea or china) at the same time many other influencers on tiktok start calling themselves “musicians” which blurs the line as to what’s the “actual” celebrity and what’s not

    also there are people who are famous for what they do and for being good at it! some influencers are famous for being silly and quirky and funny but dont really have a talent for a certain industry or department of entertainment. really confuses the definition of fame; is it being popular for ur skills? or being popular for being relatable? bc being relatable isnt really a thing to be famous for lmao but being really good at something you can do is.

    Then they'd be like "movie stars aren't really stars, I mean they are only famous for their looks, so they get shown on screen, but pretty is not really talent, the ones with reeeal star power were the radio ones, they don't need to sell make up to catch out attention!"
    Then they were like" TV stars aren't real celebrities, anyone can do a TV show, this Direct to TV sucks and nobody with talent is in them, the REAL stars are movie stars, they indeed had talent!"

    I don't necessarily think influencers can't be classed as celebrities, it's more just that they're such a new and different kind of celebrity.
    I think part of what makes people angry about influencers being at these big events is that it doesn't feel like they've earned their place there. A lot of big actors/singers/models/etc. have trained, and in some way worked their way up to the point of being at the MET Gala or Oscars. Not that influencers don't put any work in, but for the most part they have no particular training and just happen to get lucky with the algorithm which gains them a lot of attention, then within a year they're hanging at the Oscars with Emma Stone and Meryl Streep. There's less separating most influencers from the average person than there is from A-list stars, so it's easy to get jealous and think 'that could be me' when we see them at these events that were always thought of as exclusive and discerning

    • @rebeccadodd1394

If they’re acting starstuck and not showing the event a level of respect then it’s not cool. Influencers can be respectful and celebrities can be disrespectful, imma be annoyed watching disrespectful behavior regardless of status. But influencers tend to show this bad behavior more often and it doesn’t help that they get attention for it making them continue to do it because that’s their whole thing as content creators.

Celebs, especially Nepo babies have so many opportunities to do cool things and make even more money. Normal people can’t do that. So no celebrities are definitely not like regular people. Saying that it’s just bizarre. Ever wonder why that Hayley girl got so much hate bc she said she was just like regular ppl? Because she lives in a penthouse that cost $17,000 a month. I could see how, if an influencer were coming to events and waving around their phone and harassing celebrities, it might feel kinda like they're just letting paparazzi become celebrities now and that might feel irritating and invasive to the "actual" celebrities. That said, I think the vast majority of influencers have the good sense to not be absolute dingbats at events they're invited to, and I also think most of the time people want to separate them out it's just elitism.

  • @Soulcrash3
    @Soulcrash3 6 месяцев назад +3

    Part of celebrities vs influencers doesn't take into account is nepotism or just being born rich/ inherited wealth in general. There isn't as much of a class barrier towards becoming an influencer and they don't like that. And influencers usually start young young but they receive little to no media training (which also means they are less restrained in public and don't respect boundaries well). In general famous people aren't very charitable to anyone doing something they have done/do but younger. A lot of them are very jealous because because although the gap between A-lister and influencer is huge those who aren't A-listers anymore or never were to begin with might feel some type of way about it. After all the structure of a pyramid is usually conserved by the ones immediately above pressing down as hard as they can to differentiate themselves "I am not like THEM I am like you guys!")

    I think an interesting case of celebrities sharing lots of personal details is in the music scene! Specifically thinking about Pete Wentz in the 2000s, a major reason why Fall Out Boy became popular was because he utilised new tools like social media to advertise and connect with his audience. He had SO many different websites where he posted various personal blog posts on, and later in the 2000s the band would tour with Friends or Enemies (a website) who would film video diaries and upload them for fans to see! IMO Pete was super smart with marketing tactics, and sort of bridged that gap between 'influencer' and 'real celebrity'
    (also its just in general what makes fall out boy a really interesting band, 3 hour long video essay coming soon)

    I think the main thing with influencers and ‘fame’, is that it is their goal and their job to accrue it, through showcasing their lives. For traditional celebrities, becoming famous isn’t their job, their job is to act or sing or generally entertain, and fame is a byproduct of people enjoying their craft. Both parties possess some level of fame, but for one it is a vocation, and for the other they typically shy away from it, rarely engaging with the general public as an influencer would.
