  • In this video we set structural steel beams across the front of a new building and weld them in place. Some modifications were necessary to a couple of the beams.

    Great job C.B.! The normal procedure on most sites nowadays would have been: Find the guy who measured, blame him and order a new piece! Luckily there are still Professionals like you!

    Enjoyed the video, CB! Especially enjoyed the I-beam extension and the 7024 1/4” rod burn. I just got in some new high deposition flux core wire. Looking forward to seeing how it runs. Your weld beads look very solid. Thanks for sharing!

      It's the way to go if you're doing multipass structural iron moments even single pass inbed welds, the drawback is toating around the the feeder

    Thats tthe way to weld youngins lol. 1/4" 7024 /7018. A lot of the makers of rods are cutting the sizes available to 3/16...shame. Beautiful job NBS!

    Nice work & way to "get 'r done" on the I-beam. Looked like mostly 7018....but made me wonder if the larger welds on the back side were jet rod-?

    • @NBSWELDING
      @NBSWELDING  11 месяцев назад +1

      Both of the long web welds and the backside edge weld were 1/4" jet...that backside edge weld is one pass covering two seams

    We do a ton of residential steel buildings I’ve been trying to break into more commercial steel any advice on who to contact? Also would it be worth it to get multiple hands d11 certified or would it be an unnecessary expense?

    • @NBSWELDING
      @NBSWELDING  11 месяцев назад +2

      Not sure how ya get into the commercial work...I just get calls and answer them
      The only certification I've ever been ask to provide for structural work was a basic state welding certification and that was only required because it was a prevailing wage job was for the state back in 1997

    If the bad airbag was on the filler side, could a half inch of sag due to the bag also have changed the angle of the filler neck and added to the problem?

    • @NBSWELDING
      @NBSWELDING  11 месяцев назад

      Airbag didn't sag or leak...it just looked bad
      I don't think the two issues were related at all

      No need for bevel...structural weld with access to weld both sides and no reason weld would be ground off...beveling would be a waste of time in this case...no code to fallow and no inspection...it just needs to hold....and that it will do

    Know that was not really a structural part of the building, probably just supports overhanging canopy off front of building! Who screwed that measurement up? Did you cover your ass with respect to that modification? If anything ever happened to that canopy, you know who they would hang first, and it wouldn't even have to do with that extension or your welds, the other end could fail and you would get dragged into it!

      Did you hear when I said it was entry level work...they've had guys welding bar joists and beams down on jobs like this with less than 6 months in welding school and no prior construction experience at all...it's a way to get some experience
      If flipping burgers appeals to you more than getting experience in a skilled trade then by all means go flip those burgers
