South Africa has Nuclear power.Ghana too has or had a reactor.its about having the balls to unite continentaly.for the African Defence Force.like Nato.then we can have our own detterrants.but then you need the stealth delivery systems.and the systems in place to manage .Then the political competence to manage foreign threats, which require competent espionage and counter espionage assets.its only doable as a united effort.once divide and rule is on our comtinent.its very hard.Thats why China resists the break away sentiments in its land.

I hope you dont mean western development? because hello LESSONS LEARNED. notice not even birth the end up sustaining. What future Earth will have if we repeat errors of the West. The truth is AFRICA doesnt need development. The culture in Africa was forged with eons of millenniums of Test A/B. It just need to stop being robbed; and it will be well.
......... if you pull back you will notice THE WEST more and more is adopting African way of life they onced laughed at. Natural living, smaller footprint, tiny homes (dont call them huts), natural medicine(dont call it bush doctor herbals )... even carry babies wrapped ..i mean (baby-backpacks)
vlogger also do a disservice to Africa by bragging their country has the same McDonalds like the West, and same policy of creating gated communities.
💯✨Africa needs less Fred Swanikers - because behind all of it is USING AFRICA'S YOUTH to become working serfs for the West or 1%ers. Education isnt African it 3:35 Western Indoctrination. aka White Jesus 2.0. all he is is another shill, an agent. Who is funding his speeches? 5:40 = are western issues.
climate change. AFRICA wont flood if all the ice melt(95% of the continent sits high. AFRICA IS THE ARK), Africa has the least C02 emission. the other are western concerns about Africa. Africa is massive (22 climates, 6 time zones). it can hold 7 Billion people easily.

    • @samsmith4242
      @samsmith4242 4 года назад

cinnamonstar808 everywhere has a culture from testing A/B. Africa is not the ark since climate change means higher temperatures. If anything that title goes to Siberia. The tiny homes and natural medicines (most of which don’t work if referring to things like essential oils) are a result of changing times. They were and are not unique to Africa, and the CO2 emissions is purely due to circumstances

I'm a Canadian Chinese and when I was a young man I spent quite a few summers in Mainland China. Seeing the poverty and seeing how China had become so backwards was truly heartbreaking. But given what has happened in the last 30 years fills me with hope and joy and I never imagined that with in my own lifetime I would see China become strong enough to re-take its rightful place in the world. Seeing a re-born and revived China is something that is truly astonishing and fills me with joy.
I hope that one day Africans will have its Renaissance too, grow and develop economically and retake its rightful place in the world. Without economic development Africa will never truly be free and Africans can never be truly Masters of their own Homeland. I hope the joy that I feel will be something you feel too!

I'm glad there's African young visionaries out there willing to build initiatives like this. We definitely should support them with everything we've got. Corrupt leadership is really the bane of Africa's development. We've tried all sorts of militant ways to force change from the top to no avail. This young man's approach of changing the mindset of the youth is certainly a new approach. My question is how do these smart people get into strategic positions where they can actually foster change? In many African countries, politics is a minefield full of psychopaths willing to do anything to get into and maintain power. And the majority of the electorate is poor and ill educated. Thus they are more prone to elect these machievallian characters who shower them with chunk change during election campaigns.
Change will be more possible if it starts from the grassroots. Maybe this university could also train their scholars on how to do grass roots level civil education that aims to change the culture from the ground up. If people at the grass roots level refuse bribes and only pay attention to leaders who deliver, then it would make it difficult for upcoming leaders to simply buy their way into power. A change in the hearts and minds of the people is the necessary. A cultural revolution is a necessary ingredient for initiatives like this to have Continental effect. If only initiatives like this could be extended into every sector of the continent's society.

Just finished the video. Amazing video with the information that they had. But to be dead honest, education by itself is not enough to solve societal problems. You have to be willing to destroy the people that are damaging society. Which is what every successful empire has done in world history, between europe, asia, and native america. Africans, however, for the most part, are not willing to organize into a conquering empire. This whole "education this-education that" sounds great in all. But its only piece meal and will only help local problems until some warlord takes what these educated people have built, because these "educated africans" dont know how to defend themselves, or organize and army to destroy the corrupt leadership. You have to be willing to kill to be successful. Europe, Japan, China, Native americans figured that one out. The key difference between Tyrannical leadership and good leadership, is that good leadership only kills/punishes bad people.

This video sounds like an advertisment. I do not care about how pretty their campus is and if it's situated on Mauritius or in Ghana. Many of the greatest universities in the world are situated in much less impressive environs but they don't have to. The publications they produce, their research, their allumni, speak of themselves. The reason there is a fairly universal system of higher education is twofold: interoperability and efficiency. Libraries are calm because without reading you are ignorant. If you want to have a discussion, you can have it in a classroom or a team-study room. In no high level university you are supposed to "memorise and regurgitate". From the presentation it seems that the goal of this institution is not to create educated people that would become "leaders" whatever that means, but creating a prestigious cohort group that can gain power later, to whatever end. I applaud the effort of mr. Swaniker but I do not think that you can solve Africa's problem from top down and I am fairly sceptical towards this project as I am towards many such projects everywhere around the world. The good thing is that it seems to give internationally accepted degreees at least.

    • @TheoEvian

And since the video and a few other sources doesn't really specify the budget, but talk about the 80 mil dolars raised, so I suppose that can be taken as the main part of the budget of the project, just for comparison, one of the wider high echelon universities, Czech Charles University which ranks between 200-300th best university in the world and has mostly just one campus (some of its medical programmes are situated cca 100 kilometers from the main place but that is no continent-wide reach) has a yearly budget of around 400 mil. dolars. Universities are expensive institutions just to keep the teachers there because in the current world, you have to get those teachers in a worldwide competition of institutions and businesses and without good teachers your nice campuses won't be worth anything.

There is reason to be optimistic because development is not a linear process. In the modern world good ideas spread quickly, and Africa has the critical mass of talented, visionary people with enough will power and resources to make things happen. Cheering for this from Italy.

@@lesleykramer7207 , racism has always been a big problem in Italy and elsewhere, unfortunately. By racism I mean the irrational belief that immigration is a catastrophe. However, two things must be said in this regard: 1) you get an inaccurate picture of Italian mentality by looking at the polls. Anti immigration parties are becoming popular also for reasons that have nothing to do with immigration 2) There has always been a strong and active anti-racist movement.

You are missing the point here, Africa’s problem is not leadership it’s the mindset of our people both leaders and followers.
There are African leaders who are graduates of Harvard and Oxford yet they continue to plunder the resources of their countries. The problem is our system of education it is still largely Eurocentric and colonial.
Watch this video as it perfectly explains the problem and solutions

That contained an unhealthy dosis of 'we wuz kangs'. The creator conflates pagan egypt with other civilizations and cultures across the continent. Surely one would realize that sub and super saharan africa are different places and cultures, and that Egypt received much greater influence from the levant than from the upper Nile. Aside from that the university model is not arabic, it's west european, unless you are including islamic institutions, but those do not contribute to technological development or infrastructure.
The reason people model themselves after the western system is because it built the industrialized world. That world has now become global and it's language is English. If you want to add to that world you need to learn the language. Creating a new academic institution and teaching and granting degrees in kiswahili is not going to prepare them for that globalized future. Granted, it might be a good way to keep them inside the country and prevent braindrain, but you'd need to find some interface between the global pool of english knowledge and the localized institution. There is no reason to try and reinvent the wheel if you're planning to use the highspeed rail in the future.
Now certainly something needs to be done to retain talent locally. But you're gonna need a pretty big stick or carrot to compete with the opportunity to work somewhere more peaceful, better developed and for higher wages. But I don't think that's the kind of mindset you're referring too.

thinkppl This is a connection between the ancient Egyptian civilisation and proto-Africa what you call “sub-Saharan” even the name Saharan is Arabic
Your response clearly provides an indication of your mindset, every great civilisation builds its own institutions, the current one Africa is operating is Eurocentric and Arabic, where is ours?
We are Africans, and we are a unique set of people. African languages are becoming extinct because people like you continue to push for English and other European language as a tool of education. What happened to ours?
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again whilst expecting a different results.
We need to retrace our steps and develop leaders that trained by our own independent institutions not the ones set up by our colonisers
