Was looking for help with staccato, came upon this video, started watching, got to the rocking drill exercise and said to myself, "HEY, is that the Fiddle for Dummies guy?!!" Wanted to tell you that that book, Fiddle for Dummies, is hands down the most chock-full, detailed in the extreme, best, most comprehensive "start to play the fiddle/violin" book I've yet encountered, touching on esoteric details most other tutors in books or online do not cover. Wish I had gotten this recommendation of mine before I started with other online lessons, because you're so specific with details on how to hold bow, how to position right hand, etc etc. And then there's so much in the subsequent remainder of the book, music, techniques, that I will be able to learn from it for a long time. Got it from the library first, but bought my own copy so I never have to give it back.
What I truly took away from this video is "a staccato is more or less an eighth note and an eighth rest note" I will surely try explaining it this way to my students.
When you go up and then down ( each note different direction). - we call it Martele! Staccato - when you move few notes same direction with a stop between each note ( up-up-up. Or down- down- down)
Thanks so much, the idea that it’s an eighth note and an eighth test has greatly improved the tempo and tone of my staccato, it’s squeaking far less as well. Thanks again!
My daughter is practicing on a piece for Bach arranged by P. Klengel I think it is D Major first 3 lines staccato & the rest no staccato should we play them spiccato? Thank u sorry but it is not written the name of the piece
I'm an adult beginner and I've been self teaching for 12 weeks. This is the best staccato advice I've found. So helpful! Thank you. ☺️
How's your self teaching going? Hope you're still practicing
Im an adult beginner too 😊
Very helpful!! I am a beginner and have such a hard time doing this, so this was probably the best/quick advise on this technique. Thank you!!
