One of the most authentic practitioners of the blues to ever live. John Lee Hooker had an ominous and haunting nature to his music that no one else could ever replicate. He was truly one of a kind. ❤
Superb performance. Ry Cooder. is a great, great player, and here, he accompanies JLH with great skill and sensitivity, and Hooker clearly respects him. This is how you duet with Hooker. Few have ever done it as well.
I got to see Ry on his most recent tour, and it was a huge moment for me. He's my all-time favorite guitarist. He's never been afraid to buck trends. Was there a lot of money to be found in some of the places he went? No, probably not. But he went there because it was worth it for other reasons. He gave light to Cuban music and artists needing a platform, paid the fines for it and they at least gave them a grammy for that project. He's worked with absolute legends from everywhere. Fela Kuti, Mavis Staples, Taj Mahal, and to hear him talk he's kept a good head on his shoulders the whole time. So much respect for him.
To all you aspiring guitarist, this man proves you don’t have to know every aspect and detail about guitar, just heart & soul raw talent and your own unique style. I wish I still had my JL Hooker records.
Probably one of the best concerts ever was John Lee Hooker with the Coast to Coast Blues Band in 1985... It was a simulcast on WXRT radio called the Blues and Bud show... On a Monday night... I just caught the beginning and recorded it on a good cassette and then took it to a guy and had some CDs made... I believe the WXRTt and me are the only people that have it... Incredible show I listen to it all the time... Sugar Blue on harmonica just incredible!!
Ya love that axe, Robert? I hear Sheratons play wonderfully, and they are obviously beautiful works of art. John Lee also played a Gibson ES 330 and I think an Epiphone Casino. He knew what he liked. I'm fortunate to be the steward of a '63 Casino in John Lee's Tobacco Burst. It's a player but in very good condition. Keep enjoying and protecting your Sheraton, Robert. -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
John Lee's unique. His vocal and guitar styles may not be the best but you feel him unlike any other Blues artist, he's so close to the real Folk Blues. Crawlin Kingsnake's one of my favorite John Lee tunes. I first heard the original recording in 1971 (when I was passionately developing my Delta Blues chops). I learned Crawlin King Snake as an earthy, soulful Blues that gave me great pleasure and many opportunities to experiment with rhythm changes, left hand embellishments, and vocal nuance. - Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
I do not know how come this man so cool and groovy - he play with no style no tempo no melody and no nothing - no people what play with him have a cloo wot is going - but he just the funkiest dood EVER, innit...
saxab ma heshine oo xogaa ah Adiiga waxaah tahaay jeer aniigane waxaah ahaay yaaxas oo waxah ku wadaanolanay biyaaha dhaxadeda aniiga afaka labootako iijexan ee jeer am heshiin ha am mayee so gala biiyah jeer sanawen awa yaxaahas wa ku suga jeer so gala gudaha
The style of his guitar playing is rather unique, he hardly ever takes any cords, if he even knows them, it is just tuning in a variety of keys. He has influenced many good guitar players who have learned this style from him.
The other player is a man so famous that only a fool would even mention his name, thinking that people might not know him, but I am not that sort of person, no sir, so I will not be the first idiot to type Ry Cooder in the comments here. No. I am smarter than that, by golly.
Love JLH of course, but also love how anyone who's already famous and loved can just mumble out the lyrics however they feel like and screw up the guitar licks, play pretty badly and everyone's always like, "OMG AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!" 😂 Amazing musician, great song, but this performance was a total bland mess.

Johnny Lee hooker is a true guitar legend. If you watch his fretting hand he does everything your guitar teacher told you not to do.

Totally agree with you Miichael, please place Bonnie Raitt up there on that very short list,
John Lee did really well when he played with Canned Heat. That Hooker & Heat album is one of my all time favorites.
To all you aspiring guitarist, this man proves you don’t have to know every aspect and detail about guitar, just heart & soul raw talent and your own unique style. I wish I still had my JL Hooker records.
The best is the simplest. His approach to music was basic.
Also Ry Cooder, master of numerous instruments, and master of numerous styles of music.
There’s cool:
And there’s John Lee Hooker cool...
Cooler than the other side of the pillow.

He look at the clock and finish the show 👀. Cool! John Lee on my top ten list of bluesman.
John Lee has been using my guitar lately...he comes around and makes that eerie noise that I can't play unless I be possessed...

I wish I could play the guitar like Mr. John L. Hooker, has his own style!!!!
Ha, who else but JLH would look at their watch in the middle of playing a song? Such a cool dude! :)
something about a voice that fits a man and a guitar that a man fits put them together and you got what's here
Who's here after the new Black Keys cover? :D
Bumped into The Doors on the way 😃🙏🌿👍👀😎 had a 420 on the way back, whooo

Yessirr😈😳😎

Ry plays the blues, John is the blues.
I've got a guitar just like that one John Lee Hooker is playing in this video. Epiphone Sheraton II
Good for you, but nobody cares
No need in being an asshole. Seriously.

Epiphone kicks so much ass. I honestly don't think Gibson is worth spending 10x more, tbh.
@@Mephilis78 Absolutely! I'd put my 88 Sheraton up against any Gibson 335.
Astonishing and just great
Le génie du blues dans toute sa splendeur ! 🤩
Esse cara deveria ser nomeado Rei do rock 😍🇧🇷

Velho hook a perfeita imagem do blues

Did more with guitar and one foot stomp than most Brit alleged blues bands
You tell he really want to be there 😂

Check out Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside for a different style of blues. The north Mississippi hill country style of blues!

Black keys
Sorry Ry but why couldn’t we hear him play it by himself as he used to 40 years earlier?
John Lee loved Ry for the same reasons that you love John Lee. When you love, you want those who love with you, with you.
Watch any JLH live show. He spends more time not playing than playing, he fooled us
Cool muddafukkah ! 😎

+Ermin0s funny guy ha ha ha ha ha!
That black guy makes much noise here
Give him a bass player
Give him a drummer
And go find a place to hide!!!

Amazing musician, great song, but this performance was a total bland mess.
Guitars are sounding painfully out of tune. Dude can't sing, can't play either
You will never get it
