In order to win Ma Long, I should practice illegal serve. Thanks for inspiring me!

It's especially hard to see a serve by an opposite handed opponent, whose serves may sometimes be hidden unintentionally.
it not hidden "unintentionally" , he purposedly hide it. imagine having to throw the ball from the middle of the table and landing it outside to the rightside. wow that's NOT VERTICAL.
Table tennis has the worst referees in all of sports. They just sit there, dreaming of being somewhere else with no idea of what's happening under their very noses!
I'm guessing you don't watch any other sports lol
môn nào cũng thế thôi, kiểu gì chẳng có tiêu cực
The problem is the umpires does not need to know Table Tennis. So most of them cannot call out technical fault
@@GomoGomoNoRocket giải quốc gia mà bro, trọng tài phải có bằng cấp chứ. Có phải giải cho amateur đâu
The NBA also has poor officiating.
The rule is almost impossible to apply by an umpire. Sitting by the side of the table, it's very difficult to know if the ball is hidden or not to the receiver. The place where the umpire is sitting is the worst place to check that rule.
Which part of "vertically thrown" don't they understand?
His behavior makes me sick. Nobody wants to see a game like this.
Yes I saw that match Ma long had a lot of problem reterning that serve.
But that's how Fang bo used to win.He had a very tricky serve which most refs did not know if they can call or not
That is why these provincial players dont get to national team. Winning only by serves. Coaches looking more at all movements after the serve
Simple solution. Apply 2 specific empires per side and monitor the illegal serve. The illegal serve will be a new trend difficult to stop
I don't understand these LAME players. Why win points by hiding serves?? SO LAME. There's NO SPORTSMANSHIP AT ALL.
Shang Kun triggered.. illegal serve, hard to see the contact point..
the rules are very simple and don't need to change; they just need to be applied; the ball should be visible for the opponent *at each point of the trajectory*, not passing behind the arm, not behind the head, not behind the chest ... Even Ma Long's own pendulum is strictly speaking illegal, but the ball is visible long enough before contact to reduce the hindrance to 0. Xu Xin is worse, by the additional effect of him being a lefy, Pär Gerell's serves marked the advent of chest hidden hook serves, Yoshimura's head hidden serves turn the rules into a joke ... the list is long.

Even Wang Chuqin takes advantage of hook serve and his left hand in some case
How to proud the winning of serve like that, illegal serving.
Ma Long is real professional player. He fixed the problem by himself without saying anything.
it is the referee who decides, not a captain on shore. every player needs to learn the bounce trajectory for back- or topspin. Ma Long is also my favorite, but we need to stay realistic
Serving illegally is disrespectful to the opponent. The player with the illegal serve is also on borderline with another important rules: ball toss should be nearly vertical (with less than 30 degree deviation), players should not toss the ball towards themselves.
I remembered another game with Shang Kun and another illegal server ( cannot remember his name ). Ref, you need to enforce the rule or else you'll bring the game into disrepute!

How about the Ito Mima Serve? Isn't it illegal?
Dont think all servers were wrong ... but different ...ma long will get use to it soon !
To prevent cheating from services change the rule to these options.
Optio 1: Each point can only be count if the ball goes over the net three times first.
Option 2: Have the players make the calls. If you can't see the ball at the point of contact then just don't attempt to return the ball and it is a reserve.
Option 3: Have a service machine do the serves to each players.
This way it will keep everyone honest and fair.
I think option 2 is the only good option.
@@karlbjerke133 only problem is that the receivers also cheat so they're not gonna call those faults either
@@nenek5533668 why wouldn’t the receivers call the faults when they are at a disadvantage if they don’t do so?
bad suggestions 🤣
Hi,
Nice video, superb..
Can you Please suggest bat setup for playing 1) excellent Flat hit 2) Good on Topspin 3) Superb Control and not too heavy to hold.
Above is my playing style, struggling to get the best setup for me
I know there is a trade between b/w speed, control & bat weight.
Ma long getting tricked here.
sir there is sound delay in this video and can you please make a vedieo on game sence plz sir
Shame on the referees.
The only way to solve this problem is to ban forehand serves.
I was wondering. Isn't it illegal to hide the point of contact? How didn't anyone say anything
Agree. Ma Long just coudn't see direction of the spin
yes, it is illegal serve.
Umpires always never say anything because they are sitting by the side and it is difficult to call out the fault serve at that angle

Ma Long protested to umpires after game 1 finished
@@jasper8368 I think so
Making it a habitual serve will not bring him to any international arena. Good luck to him.
Ma Long deserve that ones. It's law of action.

1:30 clearly an illegal serve
As long as pendulum serve is allowed, the umpire can do nothing about this kind of serve. WTT should change the rules of serve into Samsonov's toss up serve. All serve should be similar just like Tennis.
That one shown in the video is more like a hook serve anyways not pendulum. Pendulum serve can be done clean as well, look at timo boll. Also other servers can also be hidden, for example, reverse pendulum, hook and under spin serve. So ban all of them?
What do you mean by "Samsonov's toss up" serve and like tennis? that's too vague. I'd say implementing hwak eye instead is what ITTF and official match organisers should learn from tennis instead.
ok good
that would be dumb. One of the things that makes TT so different from other sports is the serve.
all service should NOT be similar, they should be legal. Ball is thrown directly up at least 6 inches (and as high as server desires) from the release and in view until the bat strikes it. you can do that a million different ways.
what the heck ! is the umpire blind ! most of this dudes serves are illegal. all righthander players will and definitely have a hard time reading the ball because its hidden. and the toss of the ball is not vertical , its almost horizontal whahaha. Ma Long is really a good sport. he doesn't complain.
Horrible video quality: frame rate is too low, makes the ball movement look jerky.
So in China, to become top player you must learn how to do illegal serve.
The only way table tennis can be more popular is to reduce heavy reliance on service.
Illegal serve
No wonder you don't see these 3rd or 4th tier Chinese players in international competitions because they will just lost all the points by serving illegally.
To be fair, this looks very much like Xu Xin's serve as well, but I agree that the rule is very poorly enforced on the tour. Might as well not have this rule at all and go back to 5 serves up to 21! 🤷
I definitely agree. we should go back to the rule 5 serves up to 21 !

Uh!?! Ma long cant stabd on the right side while a lefthanded player serves , But why ??? so strange , please someone tell me :-)
He is used to stand on the left-hand side, as he wants to cover as much as possible with his stronger forehand. Anyway, the rule is that wherever the receiver stands, the serve must be visible from his point of view
the rules are very simple. the server must serve the ball while it is visible to their opponent at all times during toss to strike. he is also clearly throwing the ball towards his bat (which then is hidden behind the arm) instead of completely vertical which is another problem that refs don't enforce... it adds much variety to contact and spin when you throw towards your strike instead of striking as it falls straight down

I think the Chinese officials allow this to add another layer of complexity to make the champions think even harder.....maybe watch the ball and figure out the spin. The Chinese are always up to something.
Exactly.
well do illegal service in practice sessions to challenge yourself then. in competition it is illegal
Worst serve

To be fair, the serve is mostly hidden because Ma Long doesn't stand at the right side of the table. Ma Long wouldn't have any trouble with a right hander doing exactly the same serve from the other corner.
In other words, the rule is stupid as currently stated. There is no fixed point of reference (for example the ball must be visible all times from the end of the middle line), so strictly speaking I could as a receiver move a few metres to the side of the table during the serve and every forehand serve would be illegal because the ball is hidden from my point of view
The rule by itself isn't complete, you're forgetting that the ball has to be thrown mostly vertical. In this video if he had just thrown the ball up instead of into his body the serve would be perfectly legal.
no it's hidden because he's hiding it on purpose like many chinese players are taught to do... they throw it up and into their bat instead of straight up. if the ball is thrown straight up you would have a much hard time "accidentally" hiding the ball as you strike it, which is never an accident. it is drilled for thousands of hours and reviewed on video for effectiveness without being obvious to the referee on the side perspective. it's cheating, and trained into these kids from day 1

Emphasis on illegal, still lost the match
This is just the nature of hook serve
It's very easy to return this serve. The only one you just need is long pimple.. its done.. I think ma long must put long pimple at backhand.. problem solved.

its a good serve...because Ma Long didnt complaint
Malong didn’t complain doesn’t mean he thinks it’s a good serve. He didn’t complain because he is confident that he can win even if the opponent uses illegal serves
Ma Long didn't complain doesn't mean those serve were good/ legal. He didn't complain because he knew the opponent may still continue the illegal serve and the referee can't give penalty for each illegal serve. Ma Long chose to be patient and tried to overcome those illegal serve by his technique and experiences rather than penalty gave to the opponent by the referee.
actually ma long did complain between game 1 and game 2 and you can tell he's protesting during game one by his body language. that motivated the umpire to call fault in game 2
respectfully disagree, I firmly believe hidden serves should be LEGAL in table tennis. This forces players to learn how to READ SPIN, no matter how fancy, or deceptive the serve is...the trajectory of the ball itself is ALWAYS readable
IMO, the sport is already too much about serve, serve return and deception. I think this is why sandpaper and hardbat is seeing a renewed interest.
Certainly in low level play. I pride myself in being able to read serves in that way too
You obviously dont play table tennis yourself.
There were very few rallies above 5 shots when illegal serves were allowed
It's obviously not readable if freaking Ma Long himself is struggling with returning it freaking dumby
