I'm short and I work alone so I don't like working on jack stands. so what I do is take the wheels off remove the axles and then its easier to work on the top of the motor. Then if I need to go underneath I jack it up a bit. Probably not the most efficient way but when I'm jerking things around I like the stability of the car being on the wheels. But yes you need to remove the wheels to do a bunch of the work and work from underneath to undo a bunch of stuff.
Are the wheels still on? If so how did you do this without removing the wheels?
