There’s a difference between how Sunderland are winning matches and how Preston or even Ipswich did. They were grinding out results and Sunderland have been cruising. Who knows how far they’ll go but it’s a strong start.
Been watching Sunderland for 40 years and I can’t remember the last time we were this well organised.
100% agree marra. 🇵🇪
one of our best formation identities we've had since Reidy's 442 I reckon
Done a 50 year shift myself.. It's never boring 😂
Under Peter Reid we were
I've got the same feeling, when we were in the cup run of '73 Aw
Preston I remember had a really good start last season and they slowly fell off but hopefully Regis Lee bris wont let that happen signing mepham and samedi as well as Alan Browne are quality signings so hopefully we can keep top 6 that’s my goal for us
I agree although i feel like preston were very lucky and didnt play nearly as well as sunderland have
You can see what RLB is trying to do, a high pressing team and it is working fantastically. Putting teams on immense pressure. Mayenda up top is showing his potential to with 2 goals and 2 assists and mundle has stepped up into Clarkes shoes magnificently. It's real promising. The defense has been immaculate too. It's a big blow with Alese being out for 11-12 weeks but luckily ballard was back fit and stepped in well. I think teams should consider us as a real threat this season and nit underestimate us.
Ben. When I started watching this video, I thought you must be a Sunderland supporter, not because you seemed to be pro-Sunderland, but because of the depth of your knowledge. You certainly know football. Thank you for the analysis and in answer to your question, I genuinely feel that we do stand a chance of being there or thereabouts at the end of the season, hopefully, in a promotion place, without the lottery of the play-offs. Great post and once again, thank you.
Sunderland fan here, if we over-perform we can get the momentum going all season, but there will be some dips in form, there are degrees of energy on a football pitch from the collective and specially the midfield, but when it dips that's when the individual talents come in play. Looks like we have what is required to make a great season and Regis Le Bris will know how to quiet things when it's required...
In post-match interviews, every opposing manager this season has said ‘We weren’t creative enough in the final third’. Thats the best compliment you could pay to our manager. He has us so well organised. Thats the difference this season.
I think i can speak for most Sunderland fans when i say as much as we’re looking far better in many areas in relation to last year(ie improved performances from Neil and Bellingham. Mundle’s exceptional arrival following Clarke’s departure, etc. And the importance of the inclusion of powerhouses of Rigg amd Cirkin), i think most of us aren’t gonna get carried away by our fantastic start. Theres a LONG way to go. Fingers crossed we can continue to see this progression under Le Bris.
We’ve got a stronger squad now. Ballard, Hume, Alese, Browne, O9, Patterson, Roberts are players good enough for any team in this league.
I think Isidor will make his mark too.
Ha way the lads.
FTM. 🇵🇪🇵🇪
This is what annoys me- comments from fans of other clubs saying things like:- Sunderland mid table at best, their bench isn’t good enough 😂
How on earth can anyone say that? We’ve brought in players they’ve never even seen play yet- Wilson isodor looks a real handful- Alexsic and samed have huge potential, we’ve got a striker who none of us have seen play yet also!
If they’ve got these signings right along with players like hjelde, Poveda, Rusyn etc we could be a very hard to team for anyone to get a result against!
Good analysis. SAFC fan here. Still very early days but it is hard not to get excited by what we are seeing under Regis Le Bris. Most striking for me is our out of possesion play; incredibly disciplined and using the high press really well, but, with the ability to change that when required. Le Bris looks a really good coach and proven when working with young players. He is looking a great fit for our undeniably talented young squad. My preditction top 6.
as a 75 year old sunderland supporter since i was knee high to a grasshopper well said son.
Just want t add .. congratulations t Trai Hume on his first captaincy f Northern Ireland ..well done Trai & well deserved..👏👏👏🔴⚪👍
Cracking player.
I remember Ipswich having a good start last season an everyone saying they’ll drop away eventually 🤷
I’m a Sunderland fan, if we keep up what where doing now we could have a chance been promoted. The first 4 games were crazy. Even beating Burnley was a surprise. Regis le bris is doing a great job, way better than last season. Sad to see Clarke go but it always happen, hopefully we can beat Middlesbrough.
I remember that Bristol City won the first 4 games of the 2020/21 Championship, but in the end, they finished 19th.
Automatically for sure Top is up for debate depends if leeds fall apart again
I’ve supported Sunderland for over 50 years and it’s great to see us getting off to a really good start this season ! And Let’s be honest with the outstanding support that Sunderland have ‘ Its looking good for 2025.. One of the best assets of being a Sunderland Supporter is the great following we have ‘ especially away games …🤷🏼♂️ 🇬🇧
Only thing missing is a proven striker still think we'll win the league though. It's like Jobes had dynamic player potential on fifa lol gone from a 65 to a 78 ❤️⚪️
having a year under his belt and a more clearly defined role has helped massively.
I don't think the age of the players is as much of an issue as it's made out to be because we've relied on the same youngsters in many key positions making them quite experienced players. Our main issue has been depth. We didn't have anyone who could fill in effectively for either winger or either full back. Our midfield frequently relied on exhausted Jobe or inconsistent ekwah (a starting 11 player most of last season who just went out on loan). We had a few options for CB but they were all injured and in key positions like CF and CDM we didn't even have a first choice option. The contrast between our league position and cup game shows we didn't have a plan B. The summer signings are a step in the right direction. We'll have to see if that's enough
Our start had been fantastic however it will be interesting to see how react to a loss when it comes about. Our issue may be if injuries crop up especially key areas such as Cirkin at LB, RB with Hume and Striker it'll be interesting whether the youth in that position proves to be an issue felt we needed a proven man up there.
I think some pundits have definitely overlooked how good Sunderland can be. Last season they completely fell off a cliff after deciding to get rid of Tony Mowbray. And because of that they've become the forgotten men. But they're good. And on their day they're really bloody good.
My only word of caution about Sunderland would be this. They're still a very young team that sometimes lack the discipline to navigate the trickier parts of the season. Are they a team capable of going on a five-game winning streak? Yes they are. But if they fall out of form they're also a team that are capable of losing four or five games on the bounce as well. Because of that I don't think automatic promotion is likely for them, however they clearly have a solid shout for the top six.
Qe may be young by age but were not young by experience this squad has been together a while and few seasons in championship and add in browne 400 champ games mephem prem experience and saliss champions league experience people just want to see sunderland fail and i dunno why
Sunderland fan since the 80s, I can not remember a start this well in the league.
At some point teams will figure out our high press and we will need a plan B.
My main worry is injuries, the 2nd string in the league cup were woeful and deservedly beaten at Deepdale.
Cirkin needs wrapping in cotton wool for the rest of the season
Long way to go but we have a structure and way of playing and a decent squad but its a good start.
If gab Sutton gets its right would be one of the best predictions ever
As a Sunderland fan, I am still thinking we won’t get promoted but I do think we will push for the playoff spots because we do need time to fully adapt to Regis’ style of football but it’s a extremely promising start
Honestly mate promotion would be embarrassing probably a new worst points total .Got no funds to compete in the prem.
@@mrtruth6871 you are possibly right but it still depends on recruitment too if we could get some elite young players maybe not but I am happy to be in the championship another year just want to see progression
@@denissingleton325 yeah. Can you remember when newcastle beat us in the cup and celebrate like they won the league against a team of bairns. Could you bear that twice a year
@@mrtruth6871 it would not be ideal at all but I am happy to see what is happening now and I don’t think we will get promoted anyways
As a Sunderland fan it's being a fantastic start and one tbh with u l didn't see coming but I aren't getting to excited yet or anything like that yet. Truthfully it's a big to ask to challenge for the top 2 but I think if we stay consistent I think we have a good a chance as any to make the top 6 . I do worry about the squad upfront and at all full back because aswell as Mayenda has done he's 19 u can't expect him to do it for 46 games and at full back I wouldn't swap Hume and Cirkin for anyone but if they get injured we literally have nobody to come in and it will be playing CBs out of position at Full back but yeah.
Lorient 22/23 Season - First 10 games under Le Bris. 8 Wins, 1 Draw 1 Defeat. Second in the league. 2.5 PPG. Final 28 games 7 Wins, 9 Draws, 12 Defeats. 1.07 PPG (finished 10th) . Relegated the following season winning just 7 games averaging 0.85 PPG. Until Le Bris proves that he has learnt to halt a slide then judgement will be reserved. If he can continue this form or until Sunderland have a rough patch and he can turn it round then it will continue to be just a hot start. Will be interesting to see how Sunderland do when teams start adapting. Good Luck to them will have no hard feelings if they can carry this sort of form on.
Life long Sunderland fan here of almost 70 years and this is the best start I ever remember. However I'm not convinced, knowing Sunderland as I do, they can implode at the drop of a hat, similar to the way they have exploded out of the gates this season. But I will keep my fingers crossed.🤞🙏
Yes, I am waiting for 'the other shoe to drop!'😂
One of my favourites ever Sunderland have started the season strongly but please do not be carried where anything can happen, good friends!!!Yet,they are going to be continuing their season consistently well till they are the real deal and shoutout Regis Le Bris sir for being getting the best out of his team, good friends!!!LONG LIVE SUNDERLAND!!!🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️🏋🏻♂️
This hasn’t been a lucky run, this has been in the works for 4 years.
Peter reid, alan durban, knighton And frank clarke, stokoe promotion years was the last time i have seen a decent solid side, now we have one so young we have to keep them and grow together, add the odd one or two now and again its what ferguson did with beckham giggs scholes, the nevilles ect
Being a Sunderland fan, I'm not getting carried away but I think we'll be promoted around or in October :) Subscribed......
Sunderland have more new young guns dying to get into the team, we will not falter as other teams have, we have youth and desire behind us title winners here for sure.
I agree, can’t remember the last time we had too much choice for places- now we’re asking does Neil come back in after his ban with Browne playing so well, Wilson played well in the under 21’s the other night and looks a handful with quick feet and pace, Poveda dying to get his chance ahead of Roberts on the right, new lad up front nobody has seen yet and Wilson can play there too if needed!
Samed has champions league experience and he is the one for me that will do the business and make people take notice! If we can mix the team up and still play like we have been there could be no stopping us!
Other sides will be doing their homework on us & still don't have a recognised striker, although no sign of a goal scoring problem - yet. I think if we can get a win against Plymouth this weekend I might have reason to believe as we're great at slipping up against unfancied sides.
At the start of the campaign i was hoping for a play off spot and even with the flyer we have had in the first four games i'd still be pretty happy with that.
Chris Rigg is the best young talent i have ever seen
As a Millwall fan when we played you last he looked good and he was 16 then. Him and esse are up there in the best prospects the championship has to offer
@@Connorpunk2024 Rigg we play for England not a doubt about it. He js destined for the very top. The things he is doing on a football pitch at 17 are absolutely outrageous
😂😂😂😂😂
He from Newcastle 😂😂😂😂@krisjohnson4224
@@toonboy2658 nobody gives a fuck. Hope that helps
Its early days, early days but long, long may it last
It is very impressive as I am a Sunderland fan because it’s like a surprise but as you said it’s only 4 games in and compared to Preston last season at the top of the table then went down to mid table
4 games in, nothing wrong with optimism, best to give it at least 10 games before you get over excited.
We are 28 points from safety
It’s been less about the wins and more about performance, not dominated by possession every time but very well organised, win the ball back with intensity, quick on the counter etc..
Dan Neil 22, jobe 18 & rigg 17 have ran the game in all 4 this season
Browne in for Neil in the 4th game but apart from that I agree 😂👍👍
Judge us when we don’t have Cirkin fit, because he will get injured and with Alese injured as well (unless we go 3 at the back) we will have to play Hjielde left back and he’s not getting us automatics
How's the gaffr league going? Who is leading? Perhaps doing a video about how gaffr are going for you.
You can only judge this squad by xmas or beyond most of these kids have never played championship football in their lives !!!! This league is unrelentless & these boys will only get betta but we do not want them burning out !!!! Regis has got the press just right & the defence has bin spotless but its a long season !!! We've bin there before & am enjoyin the ride !!!! Haway the Lads 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Keep predicting Sunderland to drop off or plummet and miss out on playoffs!
This team will win the division comfortably and wouldn’t be surprised to see the 106 pts record beaten and returning to Sunderland after Reading nicked it off us 😂
110 pts and not many will be able to handle us this season!
On course for 138 points.
@@jarraandyftm 🤣🤣 I’m not that optimistic to think we’ll win every game but don’t see too many beating us while we’re playing like this
@@ianoo23 me either, been supporting us too long!
Sunderland fan here - I’m not getting ahead of myself but I can say le bris has completely changed us and got us playing nice pressing football
Sunderland look amazing so far, im surprised. Thought they would struggle but kudos to le bris
ben it's September from.now to may anything can happen
Sunderland fan- personally think we’ve been outstanding, so we’ll orangised and the own goal against Pompey was so unlucky
Not getting carried away Ben… 100 points.
110
I have been a Sunderland supporter for 55 years. That means I am permanently disappointed. I hope we can kick on, but have a feeling things will fall apart. Having said all that, what a start, what a great feeling it is at present and well may it continue. Ha’way the lads.
No
I still haven't attended a Watford home game this season so hopefully I can go for the Coventry game. 'Orns 🐝🐝
Good so far, but not for me!
You do know Sunderland have brought in 5 new players in the last week of the transfer window don't you?
I went to visit Sunderland once….. once.

No is the answer
Sunderland fan here; I thought it too early to be banging the promotion drum but we have started off really well. I also think we are missing that proven goal scorer - a few games we should have had six goals easily and chances (sitters, not just half chances) have gone over the bar or just not been struck cleanly, looking especially at Roberts here.
Clark going to Ipswich I think is a mistake by us and him, not sure what his management team are thinking there.
All in all defence is very much improved, looking very tight and together as a unit, couple of our youngsters from last year seem to have made the progress we hoped for - just hope the management don't look to cash in come January (this is what is holding us back in my opinion).
End of the day we are currently a selling club looking to make money, seems to be working quite well for us but it's not a recipe for future success so just need the board to let the team grow and we will be in the Premiership again either this year or next.
Criisy Rigg proper prospect Patrick Roberts is a good player and we have a good midfield all the players really you no
17 years old Chris Rigg will be player of the season in the championship come the end of the campaign...PIN THIS COMMENT!
Sunderland will piss the division, promoted by Christmas.

No other team would get this much hype after winning 4 games, Sunderland fans are getting very carried away
So we aren't all to be positive for what we have seen so far?
@@markacky21 fine line between positivity and delusion, fair enough it’s not everyone but I’m sick of hearing about Sunderland already, it’s unbearable and we’ve only played 4 games
@jaxz7676 it's not our fault we being talked about off people let's be honest it could be anyone who's won 4 game but talked about. And going on about the squad the squad generally is very talented
@@markacky21the point is no other team gets talked about like this after just four games into the season
@Neil-so1gn but that's not our fault tho is it?
They'll fall off and finish mid table.

And then they lose there next 2 games just watch
Sunderland will not win the league Preston was top last season and then struggled
Preston was not top. Preston were top. Simpleton.
🔴⚪️🔴⚪️
They’ll be nowhere near it at the end of the season.
Early doors for us 4/4 but I thought the same about Ipswich last year and they never came back to the pack
I think our quality in midfield will be what pushes us to promotion adding experience where needed and actually having a clear definitive plan going into games as well as problem solve along the way
1 good striker we will piss it
