I love the reminders that modifying a workout is completely ok and that it’s not about keeping up with the instructor! I have been working out consistently for years, but I still often have to modify my workouts due to a back injury, which can feel discouraging sometimes. It’s important to remember that it’s about doing the best you can for where your body is at and that every body and every day is different!
Way to go for crushing your goal and not skipping any days 🎉 for push ups, if they're somthing you want to work on, try negative push ups on your knees! I can't do regular push ups but have been able to work up my strength to do regular push ups on my knees by starting with those.
And actually starting with push ups against the wall first! You WILL feel it after a bit, and it’s not discouraging like it can be when you do them on the floor
Hi love I know this isn't what your vid is about but I trust you the most with this...what denim that's highest waist of course! do you recommend ? I loved your old navy one from awhile ago but of course none of your picks were available 😊 Grazie in advance I really appreciate every video❤❤❤
Negatives are great! If you want to build to a full push up, it might be better to start with wall push ups or at an angle e.g. off of a kitchen counter because it trains the same muscles you use in a full push ups. Knee push ups are a good modification but doesn't build all of those same muscles. Push ups are an extremely difficult move, best of luck building to it! 💪
Since you worked out on the 1st AND the 31st you worked out 31 days in a row. And I just got to the part where you went even beyond that so dang girl. So so so motivating. I’m on day 3 of my own fitness challenge and I needed this video today, thank you for walking us through your journey ❤
That's awesome. Working out everyday does become easier and easier. I started doing 10,000 steps a day starting in October. I probably should have started with 5,000 but I continued the 10,000 everyday. I'm still doing them. I feel great. You'll feel even better after a couple months if you decide to continue your journey. I also do most of my indoor walking at home. But every other day I go out and walk. I do 2 and miles in the morning and 2 in the afternoon after my daughter's nap. It's 2 hours a day basically. It's fun. I get excited when my workout watch app gives me achievements. I just got the 1000k and I can't believe I made it this far. Can't wait to hear more about your journey. ❤
It’s so interesting how different coaching styles work for different people. While I don’t love full on “screaming,” I definitely tend to get the ick the most from the super positive coaches. Something about being told I’m doing great over and over almost feels condescending and makes me generally embarrassed. In contrast, I love when coaches do what I feel like I’m paying them to do which is push me past my comfort zone and provide critiques that will allow me to improve at my endeavors. To each their own and finding what works for you to keep up the movement habit!
I am currently almost 23 weeks pregnant and doing my best to keep up with my exercise routine that I had prior to pregnancy, and something that I heard recently that has really stuck with me, especially on the days I can't or don't feel like pushing myself, is something along the lines of "modifying exercises doesn't mean that it's easier or less effective- modifications help you get the most out of your workout"! I don't always love working out, but it's been a good mental and physical discipline for me at every stage of life!
I've been doing weight training with my partners for a year now and it's the best decision I've made. Beginning of March I'm participating in my first power lifting meet with them ❤
Always rooting for you!! ❤ by the way, the hair, the pink, the heart locket, the makeup.. 💯 Not only is it giving Valentines, it's also giving BARBIE ❤ Hello, Barbie!
Absolutely BRILLIANT plan on making “movement” enjoyable, not punishment. You create such wonderful video’s, thank you for that ♥️ . I am in year 9 of retirement and practice yoga and then hike 6 days a week. It starts my day out right and then the rest of the day follows. This supports my age (63) and mobility (stretching, endurance). I really need to up my “strength” game … I’ll work on that with you as my inspiration.
I love grow with Jo! She just makes me feel so seen and her smile is just encouraging! Really enjoyed hearing about your joyful movement experience and i love how positive but also how realistic you speak about your personal journey with working out. Keep killing it girlie 💕💪🏻
Your mindset shift has been so evident to me lately and I cannot cheer for you loud enough babe! I’m so so glad to see you so happy as a result of being nicer to yourself in both action and in your head! I relate so much and it warms my heart to see you love yourself so gently and authentically. 🥰 I dream that everyone will experience living life while loving oneself gently because ITS A GAME CHANGER 🎉 Love this. Love you. Love this for you! Cheering you so hard ❤️🥰🫶
Girl, you look so ethereal… Your golden hair with your side swept bangs and this soft pink off the shoulder top is stunning on you.💗 Thanks for this video. It has helped me look at exercise in a positive way. I appreciate you.💗
CARRIE I’m having such a similar start to the year!! you are the person who introduced me to the term joyful movement and it’s completely 180’d my view on exercise. I adopted a dog ~6 months ago and she’s been my motivation to walk at least a mile every day and we’ve stuck to it!! at the very most we miss a day or two in a week if we go away for the weekend. but it’s been a game changer to show up for her and myself every single day and just doing it, rain or shine. I’m feeling awesome.
The editing on your last few main channel videos have been 🔥🔥 this amazing editor is just adding the right amount of sass to your already great videos and I love it so much.
I'm usually not one to comment, but I just wanted to say thank you for delivering this video the way you did. I was initially hesitant to watch it as these topics might be triggering sometimes depending on the day and how I feel, but honestly this gave me lots of inspiration and motivation and just had a super positive vibe overall! I also loved the structure of it, going through each day in detail, very fun 😊
I have asthma and a bad back and realising that’s I could do exercise that isn’t ever running and that’s ok has really changed my life. I learnt that I enjoy just going to the gym, putting on my little podcasts and working through the weights machines until I don’t feel like it anymore and then go home
I really appreciate your honesty and encouragement on exercise/joyful movement. You’ve inspired me to get back to my joyful movement journey after a long period of not moving my body and a negative relationship with exercise. I think your distinction of discipline over motivation is going to be really helpful!
i'm so proud of you carrie! 💖 what an accomplishment and shift in mindset! don't beat yourself up over not being able to do a pushup. i've been weightlifting for years and still can't do that many lol. my recommendation is to start incorporating light weights into your routine and slowly build your upper body strength! it's a chest/shoulder/tricep movement!
Cannot agree more that coffee and a walk is the perfect way to hang out! Back in the dating pool after a VERY long time and I’ve been suggesting this in lieu of “traditional” dinner dates.
Go girl! This is such a good idea as well because there’s less pressure and you can chat about things you see as you go ☺️ not as stagnant or stiff as a dinner date
I love the idea of joyful movement. You gave me like an “aha” moment where I’m like let’s focus on the benefits of the movement and gratitude for being able to move! I’d love to see more videos about this!
You have helped me so much with changing my mindset of exercising over the years! So thank you! You’ve inspired me to do a 30 day joyful movement challenge
Amazing video all around! I've seen all the years and your attitude/mindset around this year is just totally different! I'm so happy for you for finding what works. I also struggle with just taking rest since its become such a part of my routine! GWJ 10-12 minute workouts have truly changed my life! One of those and getting my daily step goal has been such a gamechanger for my mentality and I'm glad I'm doing it for me! Keep it up Carrie ❤🎉
Great job! You look great in that shirt and your hair looks so shiny! I'm glad this helped you. I also struggle with the ADHD/sleep issues/consistency so I totally get the feel of these wins adding up.
Amazing Carrie!!! You should be so proud of yourself. Just wanted to mention to keep in mind that rest days are important. I personally only work out 3-5 times a week max. I think you need at least one or two rest days a week to be able to build up muscle and let your body repair itself. I’d be psyched if you got into weight lifting. It’s amazing for my mental and emotional wellbeing.
just wanted to pop in and say something in regards to you feeling like you had to take a step back around day 22- if you were still on your period around this point it's SO NORMAL to feel weaker and more tired and just generally not get in as good of a workout during this point in your cycle. this might be something you're already aware of since you've been doing joyful movement on and off for a few years, but it's always a nice reminder :)
I’ve loved this video every year and this one especially! So great to hear your thoughts on each day. It makes me want to do something similar for myself 😊
GIRL!! 😍 Ok we need to get a ‘PROUD’ counter going on screen throughout this video!! The amount of times you said you were PROUD of YOURSELF… I am SO FREAKING PROUD OF YOU for being proud of yourself!!!! Celebrate yourself every day, girl. You deserve it.🌟🥰❤️
Girl! I have been doing CrossFit scaled for years and I still can do a real push up but when you do weight and can lift heavier it’s so fulfilling keep it up! I’m really inspired by how you said you’re proud of yourself I struggle to feel that way about myself ever but I really should I do a lot!
hiking is my joyful movement. When the snow clears I have a goal to hit the trails more often! There is a mountain with a 1 mile 1,000 ft climb just next to my office and it would be so cool to try doing it every week and check my stats. Last time I tried it took me about 40 minutes so it wouldn't be too overwhelming. Thanks for the inspiration Carrie
Joyful movement for the win 🙌🙌 i still recommend some yoga with Adrienne. I have been doing her 30 day January videos and i hwve never felt stronger or better mentally and physically. And they are short and keep you moving, i can't recommend her enough ❤
Have you ever try playing Just Dance? It is such a workout. After 2023 where I had 2 back surgery that left me with permanent issues including mobility I decided that my new goal is to finish a song with good scores!
I was an athlete for 12+ years and had a tough time accepting my postpartum body. Performance was such a huge part of my life and all of a sudden, I had to modify almost every workout. I still definitely compare myself to “before” but I’m learning to love moving without any expectations!
I'm so happy to see you having such a positive experience going on a personal fitness journey - I started my own journey last year around June and I can honestly say it has changed my life for the better and it just makes me so happy seeing other people have a similar experience!!
I’m been on a joyful movement journey as well and I always ride my indoor bike and watch your vlogs/main channel videos. Thank you for being a positive part of my day!
only 10 mins into this video and I resonate sooo much with this! The gym and working out was not something I was into but it really is all about the mindset. I wanna get so strong this year too!!!💪💪
I just started a training programme for a half-marathon that I stupidly signed up for (even though I haven't run a race for over five years) and I was inspired by you to take notes on the journey. I had Covid in January so my endurance took a major hit. I'm hoping to build myself up slowly. Thanks for sharing your experience!
💕proud of you girly! I’ve been doing the same! I can’t wait for spring because it’s too cold and snowy to walk outside where I’m from, so indoor workouts it is! I love grow with jo and emkfit I’ve also been obsessed with ‘up to the beat’ she does dance and toning with weights as well, and I love that part!
Gosh I gotta say, ur last like 6 months' videos u are just glowing. Ur HAIR is always on point, ur outfits and accessories/glasses, likeeeeee I'm in awe!!!
so proud of you. I needed this video, joyful movement is a beautiful mind set. Thank You, for validating that all movement is a step in the self care direction.❤🎉
You look fantastic and happy! Love that for you. I have also started to try to be kind to my body and start moving because I love myself. Your videos definitely help me in my journey. It is good to see you reset and not just give up on your journey.
You look gorgeous 😍 💗 I'm soooo happy you love EMKFIT!! I remember the first couple times you tried her videos you weren't sure as she can get a little loud, but I'm glad she grew on you. I recently found The Fitness Marshall on RUclips and I'm obsessed. I alternate EMKFIT and The Fitness Marshall for my cardio warm ups and cardio days!! They're so much fun 😍 Rest days (or "potato days" as EMKFIT says) are super important.
Loved this video Carrie ❤️ I love the idea of putting less pressure on myself. I want to try this. This year has already been really hard for me. Lost 3 members of my family in January while starting a new job. All of February I’ve been so sick. March I am doing this challenge. Taking my joy back!!! Also cudos to the editor they have been doing a great job.
You DEFINITELY should keep a little workout journal! I started keeping a walking journal in 2022 as part of my goal to walk more miles each week. I keep track of goals, I write about how I'm feeling, and I track my favorite recipes and how they make my body feel. It has changed my life and how I treat myself surrounding fitness. I feel kinder, more joyful, and more challenged now that I keep a journal. 💖 And, they're fun to decorate. 😊
If you are looking for modifications to an exercise, looking up calisthenics progressions can be a good way to find a modification/progression that you can do and work your way up from there. For pushups, you can start against a wall and work your way down like to table level, chair level, a stair step, whatever, until you eventually get down onto the floor or wherever your goal is. This way you are gradually adding more of your bodyweight as you go. Emkfit is also amazing!! I love her workouts, and she's a lovely person! Her strength training videos are really good as well as her Dance HIITs.
the editing is so good!! nothing feels better than when I'm doing a long growwithjo video and she comes on during the water break to tell me I'm doing a good job lol
I love walking. My dogs and I walk an hour a day. It began as a chore but I not only don’t think about it that way anymore, I look forward to it. It’s my time too to listen to a podcast and take a breather. I’ve been debating on breaking that up so we can do two walks a day, that might be even better haha
Last year I started every day trying to get out for an hour walk. It’s been so nice and I’ve kept it up regularly. It’s a good midday break for myself.
I always believed that people give up on fitness because either they’re working beyond their fitness level, or they’re doing an exercise that they HATE. I love brisk walking, aerobic dance (like Grow With Jo and old-school Richard Simmons), swimming and bike riding (biking is my favorite), but I HATE cross-fit, and hard-core HIIT aggravates my autoimmune condition because it increases inflammation.
I feel like you’re sort of already mentioning this. But with the hike.. it might not feel easier but you could be doing it faster! Which is an improvement too even if it feels just as hard!
Would definitely recommend getting some hiking boots if you want to continue/up your hiking game, the ankle support compared to tennis shoes is truly game changing
Omg I was also a competitive cheerleader in middle school and highschool. The atmosphere was soooo negative. If you weren’t throwing up during conditioning, you weren’t working hard enough. And I was a flyer too, so there was extra pressure to stay a certain size, which partially was the reason for my ED developing. I’m glad I’ve been able to heal from that now and exercise for fun.
100% love growwithjo and emkfit I have to say, my favorite growwithjo video is the Michael Jackson dance work out. And I love the emkfit disney pilates for a day when I just don't want to hit the cardio too hard 😅 Glad to know I'm not alone using the RUclips exercise videos! Lol
I've been going to a gym consistently for the last 2.5 years and sometimes it's still super hard. Last Friday i was so weak. I couldn't keep up with other people. And it is ok. It's still better than nothing
You look SO good, the pink, the heart necklace, the hair😮😊❤
right!? if someone told me red eyeliner i would think eye infection and then carrie just.... serves❤❤❤

ahhh thank you SO much, i got so so lucky with her!

And actually starting with push ups against the wall first! You WILL feel it after a bit, and it’s not discouraging like it can be when you do them on the floor

I am the same! If it’s too positive in a non sensical way I am totally turned off and just don’t push myself

girl you look GOOD
I love grow with Jo! She just makes me feel so seen and her smile is just encouraging! Really enjoyed hearing about your joyful movement experience and i love how positive but also how realistic you speak about your personal journey with working out. Keep killing it girlie 💕💪🏻

I learnt that I enjoy just going to the gym, putting on my little podcasts and working through the weights machines until I don’t feel like it anymore and then go home
leisurely walks are actually arguably better than brisk walks! Don’t feel bad taking slow mindful walks they’re just as good!
What makes them better?
I really appreciate your honesty and encouragement on exercise/joyful movement. You’ve inspired me to get back to my joyful movement journey after a long period of not moving my body and a negative relationship with exercise. Yes! I workout 5 days a week but definitely need those 2 days to recover. I do usually walk though so I guess I’d say I take 2 “active rest” days

And omg, congratulations for not missing any days!! You truly did an amazing job showing up for yourself. So happy for you
Have you ever try playing Just Dance? It is such a workout. After 2023 where I had 2 back surgery that left me with permanent issues including mobility I decided that my new goal is to finish a song with good scores!
Agree! I damaged my tailbone and just dance is a fun way of getting my mobility back

This hair is your look!! Omg perfect 😍 you look incredible, you just ooze vibes 💕💕
Love this for you! I really feel like training for a half marathon would make you so happy
So proud of you Carrie! You deserve happiness and you're glowing! 🎉❤
Her strength training videos are really good as well as her Dance HIITs.
this is great advice, thank you so much!! 💞
the editing is so good!! nothing feels better than when I'm doing a long growwithjo video and she comes on during the water break to tell me I'm doing a good job lol
This new editor/ editing style is giving me life!!!!
I love how much you said you were proud of yourself - what a beautiful thing 😊 also your hair is so shiny 😍
This is so inspiring, thank you for sharing your honest experience and congrats on another successful and active start to the new year! 💜
I love walking. My dogs and I walk an hour a day. It began as a chore but I not only don’t think about it that way anymore, I look forward to it. It’s my time too to listen to a podcast and take a breather. I’ve been debating on breaking that up so we can do two walks a day, that might be even better haha
Okay beauty queen!! You are truly glowing, Carrie girl 💓
Last year I started every day trying to get out for an hour walk. It’s been so nice and I’ve kept it up regularly. It’s a good midday break for myself.
I have bad knees so I always have to skip lunges but there are so many alternate exercises 🙌
So proud of you Carrie!! you're inspiring me! Looking fab in this vid with the pink!
Carrie you are glowing! Proud of you and your journey! 🎉
Yay! I’ve also been trying to do some joyful movement everyday! Doing awesome-you have me that push I needed-thanks!!
I just so enjoy your videos. This video was so encouraging and motivating. Thank you Carrie!! ❤
I just found your channel a few weeks ago and have watched so much! Your whole vibe has really inspired me :)
this means so much, thank you Laura!!! so happy to have you here
I feel like you’re sort of already mentioning this. But with the hike.. it might not feel easier but you could be doing it faster! Which is an improvement too even if it feels just as hard!
Ahhhhh! This is my favorite video of the year from you every year 🎉❤😊
i loove your makeup in this video
Would definitely recommend getting some hiking boots if you want to continue/up your hiking game, the ankle support compared to tennis shoes is truly game changing
Elle woods WHO?! I haven’t watched in a while and to see the blonde hair was a shock, but you are owning ittttt.
if you like dance workouts, Madfit has a ton! I workout with her videos exclusively because she's such a positive coach
you motivated me to get out of bed. thank you. ❤
You look so fresh and glowy babe! Love this pink on you and the hair is hairing 🤌🏼✨
Definitely wanna see more about this journey!
The Edward Cullen at the start of the video spooked me so much, OMG! But also, I love hoa hoa days ('twilight' climate lol)
100% love growwithjo and emkfit
I have to say, my favorite growwithjo video is the Michael Jackson dance work out. And I love the emkfit disney pilates for a day when I just don't want to hit the cardio too hard 😅
Glad to know I'm not alone using the RUclips exercise videos! Lol
Please tell me where you got that sweater, it's so cute!
Sameee
Wow you look so pretty! Your hair and makeup is gorg!!😊❤ congrats on doing the 30 days and kept going!
I've been going to a gym consistently for the last 2.5 years and sometimes it's still super hard. Last Friday i was so weak. I couldn't keep up with other people. And it is ok. It's still better than nothing
Im liking that you took notes.
Day 19 sounds like you entered a flow state!! I find I only really get there when exercising or doing art/ceramics
I joined copilot with your link. I am in a bad place so we are starting really slow. Thank you for the encouragement.
Could you go back and review pilates/other forms of exercise you didn’t like to see if you have a different perspective now? I loved this video!
wait i should TOTALLY do this! it would give me an excuse to try them again for *research* purposes LOL...
LOVED this recap. Definitely gave me some ideas for workouts to check out!
I love the joyful movement content and would love to see more!
Woooooooo!!!! This is so incredible Carrie!! Rooting for you always!
Omg if i lived in a more walkable area, I would definitely go on coffee walks with my friends😩
Your look is very Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones's Diary -- so cute!
I love coffee walks with my bestie!
GROW WITH JO IS MY GORL I LOVE HER
