A driveshaft on any motorcycle is a brilliant idea due to money saved on chains and sprocket sets, which wear out far too quickly and require constant adjustment and cleaning. So the idea of driveshaft on a Moped is just super in my opinion. Did you know how rare these bikes are ? Google Yamaha Sting SG 50 for sale and nothing shows up. 🤔 Damn what a pity because I would like one to mess about with. Great Upload 👍🏼👍🏼
Awesome little thing, I wanted a Yamaha fizzy so badly in my youth, this would have scratched that itch. I completely respect your attitude towards keeping it restricted, but the teenager in me knows it’s has sooo much potential!
It’s actually called a torque tube, when it’s located inside a hollow pipe. The main disadvantage is actually drivetrain loss, which is significantly more than for a chain. It does mean anything in terms of speed, because I believe the engine just makes more power than a similar chain or belt driven moped. But it does mean that it also uses more fuel.. but it’s very reliable! Lovely moped!
Yamaha also made a child-sized trail bike with 50cc engine and shaft drive (keeps little fingers out of the chain!). I’d wager that it was the same engine and drive unit, with different gearing to cope with a larger rear wheel. Nice moped, I can see why you wanted it!
@@EnergyXyz Bop, not Bob. You can get pictures of them from the Internet and you can see the shaft housing and bevel gear housings on the left side of the bike.
An interesting moped, although 30km/h seems silly and even a little dangerous. Moped laws are interesting in the way regulations change, sometimes drastically, between jurisdictions and through time. Here in Canada, the regulations vary from province to province. I live in Québec where the current rules for mopeds are engine of no more than 50cc, no gears, and a top speed limited to 70 km/h. In the past, regulations were a lot more liberal: 50cc engine and pedals. That's it, no other limitations. As a result, Québec was the only place in Canada where the Yamaha FS-1E was sold. Yamaha even highlighted the fact by renaming it the "Québecois" (name for residents of Québec).
WAY TOO SLOW for a road-going vehicle, unless you live in, and never go anywhere except, between crop fields in the farmlands on a coast, cut in by winding slow speed limit roads, and with very few other vehicles on the road with you, 24/7. I'm in South-East Michigan (Metro, and suburban Detroit) and Michigan's moped speed limit is "100cc, and 30mph on level ground", but most cops ignore mopeds tuned up to reach 45mph+ because we can keep up with, and move with the flow of traffic, instead of always essentially being an obstruction for every other vehicle on the roads, except a farm tractor. 😄 I ride a Puch - Kromag Swinger 2, (Puch E50) I port-matched, and kitted with a 70cc piston-port DMP cylinder from Holland, and mid-tuned it. She'll do 45mph easily now, nearly 50 at a push, just with a true 15mm Bing, and a little peashooter Jamarcol Fuego pipe. 😁 ...Closer to the typical speeds of every other vehicle, is indeed proven safer than slow as a damn turtle.... Most electric mountain bikes, etc, you buy on Amazon, are much faster than what Seppo likes. 😂
I really enjoy your moped based videos, we also have the 30mph rule in the uk but everyone tended to ignore the law to the point where you could go to a gaurage and get them de restricted I remember owning a scooter that would go around 55 mph!!! (shortly before all of the internal gearing exploded on my way to work) 😀
Awesome Some oil injection sends oil directly to crank bearings and intake for piston. Mikuni oil injection pumps rarely go bad and easy to adjust. They are on huge and small outboard motors as well as motorbikes . Varies mixture from low idle less oil to full rpm more oil . I have worked on bikes boats since 1974.
What a cool moped!, it reminds me of my honda px50 i used to have, they look alike, but the px50 is variomatic, but the stings driveshaft tho!, awesome!.
What a cool thing! From the mid 70s mopeds got a LOT fancier - I think it manufs believed they could sell a LOT more if they were simpler and cleaner to use - so they got oil mixers and fairings and indicators and dispensed with points and - in this case - the chain 30kph is a bit rough - in the UK the limit is 30mph (it's actually a power limit rather than a hard speed limit but they're about the same) and that's bad enough!!
Yea 30 on a sting og Puch Monza or similar feels a little wierd... brakes and suspensions is good for at least 50! And as mentioned, electric bikes can be faster and need no Insurance in DK
Yes 30mph, but in UK a moped needs insurance, and the rider MUST wear a helmet etc. I think in DK a helmet is not required - at least most moped riders didn’t seem wear helmets when I visited DK three times.
@@SeasideGarage WRONG. Speedpedelecs with a max assisted speed of 45 require insurance (ansvarsforsikring) and that you wear a bicycle helmet approved for 45kph. All the Chinese fatbikes tha.t go faster than 25 are illegal
no... did not think of that... but I would say that its running rich! but maybe the air leak from the oil feed could push MORE fuel in and not less as what I would expect from a airleak.... hmm it is supposed to mix with the fuel so it could make sense actually
I think most people just don't bother fixing those oil mixer pumps when they conk out, easier to just pre-mix the fuel with oil as per a traditional 2-stroke engine... :)
@@SeasideGarage That and forgetting to refill with oil with the same results (kind of like me and my chainsaw, forgetting to refill the chain oil tank and the bar seizing up!!! Good job I had a spare!)... :S
Big problem with running premix in engines that are designed around oil pumps how heavy a mix you need to achieve the same lubrication of the main crank bearing. 20:1 ratios or more oil and super hard on spark plugs.
Hiya great vid. IT might run slightly better if you blank off the carb where the oil feed goes into the intake / carb. With it open it might run a bit lean. (unless you have of course lol)
Glad the BX has found a new owner, as I mentioned before it was looking pretty sad in the barn. Hopefully the new owner puts some air in the tyres so the sills aren't on the floor
@SeasideGarage It runs!? Mibby it wasn't as far gone as it appeared. At least you only have 1 red BX now, they seem to multiply if 2 or more are left together in a shed.
Have you switched all your fuel lines on every moped to Tygon yet? 😉 Oilers never work correctly, especially on modern ratios. It wouldn't work at all with my prefered pre-mix oil, which is Amsoil Saber, which I always mix at 80:1. (Amsoil Saber has no solvents in it, so ratios are completely different to old fossil-based oils, and many modern full-synthetics.
I have not done anything else then what you saw :) but there is a air mixture screw ( it looks like one) a idle screw and its possible to move the throttle needle... so many things can be tried! :)
I know a channel which would be amused as 16v BXs are kinda thier thing. In my younger days I ran a teo stroke on "Strawberry" fragranced two stroke oil. Doubt it still exsists. The older guys used Castrol Oil or something similar.
