Thank you, Chris, for also not allowing Cinema to sink to the simplest, lowest common denominator. Artists and scientists pave the way forward for our world, congratulations on this well deserved honor.
Oppenheimer restored my faith in cinema somewhat. We CAN tell good stories, we MUST tell good stories. In a world of instant gratification and wanting an answer NOW, it’s extremely important that we take the time and effort to simply ponder. To tell and listen to stories that cause us to think, to analyse and challenge our beliefs, be less belligerent and consider alternatives.

Christopher Nolan, the man who made a 6000$ budget feature to making 200 million dollar budget blockbusters and still having the same soul in his films. Thankyou Chris for making me love with cinema. I can’t forget the experience watching The Dark Knight and how it inspired me to love films and then me continuing the journey to watch some of the greatest films by Fellini, Bergman and Tarkovsky. It’s all because of your films. Thankyou.

Other than The Dark Knight, I honestly think Oppenheimer is honestly his best movie. You can tell he put a lot of hard work and effort behind the dialogue, cinematography, lighting, and directing.
Everyone’s talking about how great of a director Chris is, and how amazing he is, but that speech was amazing.

I am a biologist trained to the postdoctoral level. Nolan is among my favorite working filmmakers but this must be said: Science is truth's pursuit; it is not truth. It does not arrive. It is partial and will be for as long as facts remain unknown. That attitudinal difference is important, because it places a proper conceptual barrier between the ambitions of technology development and the virtue of truth's pursuit for its own sake, the importance of which I felt Nolan's latest film made spectacularly clear.

Nolan is careful to not reveal his political leanings. But it’s hard to imagine someone who has such respect for science, scientists, and truth also supporting the political right who opposes science and truth. I doubt he denies climate change, vaccines, etc.

One thing I find interesting about Nolan is his internal politics and personal beliefs don’t always align with the subject matter and content presentation in his films. His films often appear conservative, authoritarian, borderline fascist and appeal to those demographics but he appears more nonpartisan and centrist than his films make him sound for sure. Pretty good humility and awareness on his part. Great speech.
I think Oppenheimer was the exact opposite of those political beliefs

judging by many of the comments here, many people (I guess Americans) do not know how to read between the lines. he articulated everything very well, at least I think I understood him perfectly. One of the most elegant forms to get somebody to improve on something is to praise them for something they are not (yet) doing.
Almost every time I listen to Nolan speak, some of his voice tone remains in the way I speak. And if I can be honest, I actually wish to.

That's why the essence of hindu philosophy, teachings, knowledge of ancient veda, upanishad, granth are still relevant and helpful in guiding scientific mind. Hinduism is the only philosophy that believes in virtue of science .

Looks up for Bhagwad Geeta, 4 Veda, Upanishad, Sanhita, books and discoveries in field if mathematics, astrology, trigonometry, engineering, Architecture, physics, science of human body, Ayurveda( medicine), politics, literature, etc. We had great people who contributed to development of human beings. The books on the mathematics of black hole was written by sir Ramanujan in time when there was no concept of black holes and even now scientist are studying the equations and find useful. If hindu religion was rigid none of these great mind could have discovered such vast, detailed study for benefit of people.
