Editing to add something regarding the conversation on checking on women when they're drunk etc. So if anyone would like to, please read up on what's been happening in my country recently (South Africa) and specifically my home town Cape Town. There's been a terrible series of on-going violence against women and children. Example: recently during the span on one weekend. A university student was mislead by a post office worker to come to the office after hours. He then proceeded to rape and kill her. The next incident, a young girl and her grandfather were killed in their own home for God knows what. Just after this happens, a toddler was kidnapped. Turns out it was one of her school teachers who conspired against the whole thing because the teacher needed money and knew the toddler's parents had money. They then proceeded to abandon this kid on the street at the early hours of the morning, all alone. The next psychopath murdered an older woman who stayed in the same block of flats, why? Who the fuck knows. There's since been such a big uproar about this because this wasn't the first fucking gut wrenching sequence of terrible events to have occurred but I feel that we all got to a point of "am I next?" That said. Please, even if you cannot help our women and children, please protect your own. Strangers or not. If you see something dodgy, even if you feel uncomfortable about approaching the situation. Check and be sure that everything is in fact okay. You could ignore and say it's not your place, but the next thing you know, something bad could happen and you may never ever hear about it. Now us women have to think about oh shit, I can't walk to the shop alone. Oh walk faster and keep being vigilant. Don't get too drunk. Don't dress too revealing. All that bullshit. Like wtf? Why? Why do WE have to do all these things to ensure we're going to be safe? I'm not preaching feminist shit here, but let's be real. It's exhausting sometimes being a lady in this world we're living in today.. So. Damn. Exhausting. I apologise for this long post, but that part of the convo hit home.
