It's a flawed theory. The "mirror" effect doesn't exist - it is an illusion. The problem is that while the model using 2d figures on a piece of paper, it is just a model. And ultimately, it is a 3D model. The paper is 3d. The stick man is 3d. The shape that was cut out and flipped is 3d. If you want to really debunk this bad thought experiment to see what I mean, then attempt to flip the shape you drew on the paper, not the cutout paper version you dropped on the paper from a higher dimension that never existed in 2d at all. Even if you assume for the sake of argument the cut-out shape is 2 dimensional, the thought experiment fails, as the 2d paper shape exists on a parallel but separate plane from the drawing. In other words, there would have been no reflection to begin with, as the cut-out shape would NOT have existed on the same 2d plane as the mirror to ever be reflected.

He explained how different dimensions compared to each other so we can get a basic understanding of how the fourth dimension compares to the third. It's less of a direct definition and more of one you have to deduce yourself, or grasp the concept of from analogies. He did it really well though in my opinion, I understand it a lot better now.

@Gamma Syrup I mean. It is like we assume the things we don't understand as magic. So we still not fully understand any of 4D or higher yet. There is studies of it, but never a physical attraction with it
One very interesting idea in regards to this mirroring through 4D space is that we cannot actually physically do it, BUT we can describe it mathematically. Being able to describe it mathematically, means we can write a program that will simulate this. And this is actually exactly how a lot of rotations are animated in 3D CGI movies. In 3D graphics, we can visualize the 3D space and project it onto our screen. If we want to do rotations, we can do so using quaternion math. Quaternions are essentially numbers capable of representing 4D space (similarly to how complex numbers represent 2D space) and to smoothly animate in 3D, we use quaternions to do the rotations in 4D, then put them back into 3D. It is equivalent to picking up a piece of paper, flipping it in 3D, then placing it back onto the 2D plane. This gives us a lot of control over objects and simplifies calculations for the computer. Computer games and animated movies wouldn't be possible without this concept. (Well, technically they would but it would be a lot more difficult and comes with various problems. The earlier alternative to Quaternions were Euler Angles)
Fascinating, thanks for taking the time to post this. So could we be 3D CGI sims created by 4D game/reality designers? Many UFOs are reported as thin discs and are often reported to change size and shape-this makes sense if they’re able to access a 4th dimension.
i have a question.. did you see how when the sphere moved through the 2 dimensional plane the ring increased in size and then decreased.. but the maximum size was observed when the HALF of the sphere was in the plane. Similarly it could be the same over here where only half of the 4 dimensional object was in the plane and OF that half we only saw a slice right?
If we looked at a 4d object we could only see it in the 3rd dimension and a sheet of paper is also 3d. If a piece of paper was only in the 2nd dimension and below, it’d 8.5 by 12 by 0 inches being 0 cubic inches but in the 2nd dimension it’d be 93.5 square inches. If a 3d piece of paper went into a two dimensional plane it’ll be 8.5 by 12 square inches and .3553 cubic inches in a 3d plane. If a 4^4 inch tesseract went into our 3 dimensional space we’d only see a 4^3 inch cube. Wow, that post-nut clarity was wild.

Can you explain the mirror image to me then? That thing about the making a mirror image doesn't make sense to me. He flipped the figure and "made a mirror image" of the object, but for the 2D person it looked the same. If you extrapolate that to the 4D, if someone flipped, let's say that bag of snacks, for us it shouldn't look like the mirror image of the bag. Even though it's somehow "flipped in the 4th dimension", it would look the same to us, except someone in the 4th dimension would be like "Oh yeah, that's flipped".
In the 2D example, try to rotate the figure so that it looks exactly like the mirror image. You can't, it's not posible to do that only by rotating in 2D. But if you flip it in 3D you get the mirrored image. That means that the original image would look like if it was the mirrored image
I suppose one thing i took from this is that if a 2d being cannot see a whole 2d object but a 3d being can, then a 4d being should be able to see every single side of a 3d object at once, which is pretty mindblowing to imagine in my opinion
have you heard of a tesseract? it's a 4d cube of sorts (hard to describe). when you watch an animation of a tesseract, you'll notice that if you just focus on one side of the cube, it'll always show itself, as it will rotate from the back side (unsee-able) part of the cube, to the front (see-able) part of the cube. while a completely solid tesseract is (probably) impossible to form within our 3 dimensions, you can visualise the 4th dimension as time, so a 4d being would be able to see every single part of the third dimension (if that makes sense, kinda weird stuff here but fascinating!). i wonder how a 4d being would view the second or first dimension - if it'd change the way we, as 3rd dimensional beings view them.

To me, seeing in the 4th dimension would be one's ability to sense an object's volume or shape from any plane or angle. Right now, we can only sense up to the depth (z) of an object based on overlaying multiple images (x and y) captured with our eyes. We see 2d images which our brain computes into 3d objects. That's why a simple 2d photograph, when viewed up close, can appear 3d from certain planes (angles) but in reality it has no physical depth. That is, we cannot physically interact with its depth, we can only perceive the depths of the images in the photograph. Also why looking at a large ball from far appears the same size as a smaller ball that is closer. We see the size of the ball as a circle (2d image) but we cannot see its volume (3d object) of the ball. From our perspective what we think is a ball (sphere) could actually be a cylinder or cone for all we know due to lack of information (blind spots). If we could see in 4th dimension, we would be able to accurately see/measure/sense the volume (shape) of an object in its entirety from any angle or any plane at any distance. We would be able to see inside, see outside, see through, or behind objects as there would be no blind spots.
No offense buddy, we can see in four dimensions. Because while we have those "blind spots" within a still standing moment in time... time is our fourth dimension. As we move through time and are able to move closer, further, side to side, we can learn more about the object and learn the depths of the object. Our world is a 4-D world with linear progression only (and currently) through its fourth dimension time. People tend to forget time when it comes to dimensional travel. One example of time as a fourth dimension is making plans with a friend. You can give them a physical location in the 3-D world to meet at, however, if you do not give a fourth coordinate (time/date) you will likely miss out on hanging out with your friend.
I love how he broke it down Carl Sagan style. I still can't fully grasp it, but it's still interesting. If we ever did learn to tap into and use 4D, you know the government would find a military application for it.

Let me help you understand this - cut yourself a slice of, for example, a cucumber with ZERO thickness.

Well, not all of a sudden, actually. There always came a point where someone proved they existed, and then someone else said "Okay, fine, they exist, but what's the point of it." And then they went on to being the key to modern life.
Being able to conceive the inconceivable is an important first step to new discoveries that will change the world. You wouldn't be able to comment on this video on this website on a computer, all of which wouldn't exist if someone didn't try to dream the impossible dream.
So you can't cut a zero width cucumber with your 3D knife. So what? I doubt 2D worlds are made of cucumbers. There are 4D objects right in front of us, but in a direction we believe never exists. They are taking advantage of us, but the 5D beings are taking advantage of the 4D beings and the lost stuff that we lost are all going to the 11 Dimensional beings and they have everything! But, unfortunately, we will never be able to reach them, not in a finite amount of time! So, if it's lost, it's lost forever! So, next time you find something that's lost, be thankful the higher Dimensional beings are kind enough to not steal it! 😂😂😂
So a 4D being steals my socks from the dryer?
Probably... Maybe your dryer is actually a Portal to an other universe full of lost socks

Many UFOs are reported as thin discs and are often reported to change size and shape-this makes sense if they’re able to access a 4th dimension.
dont forget the main thing for doing quaternion rotations - no gimball lock!!
Nice
i have a question.. did you see how when the sphere moved through the 2 dimensional plane the ring increased in size and then decreased.. but the maximum size was observed when the HALF of the sphere was in the plane.

Music Refrain how do you explain you are a 4th dimensional being?
you have a one dimensional brain

Keep in mind that this is how we would perceive it. This is not actually how it looks.
Explained it better than the video better (or rather in less words/time)
It sounds like your describing the way a dolphin perceives the world using sonar.
You would get a free scholarship for that
No offense buddy, we can see in four dimensions.
@@lizlet2074 that's a pretty good point. Because we only move one direction through time though, doesn't that make us 3.5 dimensional beings?
