i would say the sadducees placed emphasis on temple service (herod's temple was still intact), and the pharisees stressed emphasis on conduct outside the temple , e.g. daily life
From my learning on the subject, the Pharisees taught the laws that man had made, the hedge laws. These were instituted to provide a boundary of transgressing the laws of God. In reaction to the Babylonian exile they wanted to guard themselves from displeasing God again by the breaking of the law. Ironically they did displease God because they made their laws greater than God’s, this was Jesus’ criticism of them. They’d made people weighed down by their man made laws to the diminishing of the law of God.
I don't recall any scripture in the New Testament describing Jesus as reading from any text, though Dr Bonevac states that Jesus was able to read Hebrew texts. Can anyone help, please? My understanding is that he was called "rabbi" in the sense of being perceived to be a wise teacher.
I have to be careful to avoid the auto-censors here. It's hard to talk about the T*lmud on RUclips. I'll put it this way. What does it say about Jesus and Mary in Gittin 57a, Shabbath 104b and Sanhedrin 106a? See for yourself. What does it say about us in Sanhedrin 57a, Baba Mezia 114b, and Yebamoth 98a? See for yourself. And then you'll understand Libbre David 37.
The Talmud is not particularly kind to Christianity. But it indicates some important aspects of the views of the Pharisees at the time of Jesus. So, it sets a context for Jesus’s teachings that I find illuminating.
Thank you for uploading all of these videos
I look forward to watching the rest of this series!

Is this series meant to be viewed in a particular order?

I remember he was discussing with the doctors at the temple during the feast of Passover.
Yes, and I had in mind Luke 4:16ff, where he reads a scroll of Isaiah in the Nazareth temple.
