As you burrow deeper into this rabbit hole that is the fragrance hobby, it can be easy to fall victim to feeling the need to acquire every interesting recommendation thrown your way.
    This is simply not necessary.
It is especially enticing when a fragrance is presented to you as easy to acquire because it's cheap, or as worth its very high price solely because it will get you compliments.
Again, unnecessary. And compliments cannot be guaranteed with any fragrance.
I'd like to encourage you do something a little cliché--you've heard this a lot. But it has never ceased to be true: prioritize quality over quantity.
You don't need 50+ different ways to simply smell "good". Rather than spend your money on 4-6 cheapies at a time at the rack store that all might only smell interesting for the first two hours, save that money for 1-2 quality fragrances that will keep you coming back for more.
If you are not interested in this kind of filtering, no worries at all. But perhaps one day, after you've encountered countless fragrances, you will.

A lot of people get caught up on the price per milliliter and that's just not the way to think about fragrance. Justin, you've said it many times: For the casual wearer it will take two lifetimes to get through 100 ml of a fragrance. Buying 3 to 5 ml samples of quality fragrances is more than enough for most people to get 6 to 10 wears of something. Then, you can save up for the one you know you really love. Also, for people who are nervous about shelling out the money for quality fragrances, just know that the secondary / gray market for high-end fragrances is pretty strong and there is a good chance that you'll get most if not all of your money back reselling a high quality fragrance that you don't love. At least, that has been my experience on my fragrance journey.

To be honest, I’m not a big Niche guy. I love my designer fragrances even though some people call them generic, basic, synthetic, I don’t care 😂 personally I think if you’re spending hundreds of dollars on a bottle of Cologne just because it’s “Niche” that’s just bad money management in my opinion. I buy decants of niche fragrances to wear on special occasions but that’s about it. I do own a 120ml tester bottle of Mancera Cedrat Boise but only because it’s a beautiful fragrance and I got it for less than $100 off FragranceNet. At the end of the day not trying to offend anyone, just my opinion 🤙🏽

One thing to remember is that just because a fragrance doesn't cost $250-400 per bottle, it doesn't mean that the quality is lacking. I have some relatively cheap bottles that smell fantastic. Also, it kind of depends on what you're going for. If you want to smell like every other guy at the Macy's counter, you can do that pretty inexpensively. If you want to smell "unique" that may take more exploration, trial and error, and funds to accomplish.

Recently I do not buy new mainstream, I do not buy niche. I buy vintage stuff, before sissies from IFRA decided to "save" us from allergies and skin irritation and made every noticable scent blander and weaker. Man, vintage Kouros from the 80s, vintage Antaeus, Gentleman 74', Fahrenheit. These make me so happy when I wear them. Yeah they are dated, but I don't care, they bring out emotions, they have character. Real oakmoss, civet, leather, patchouli etc. all high quality. Try them guys, they are worth more than some niche.

I agree on searching for quality rather than quantity. If for any reason it’s too much money. Too much clutter. I was almost falling for blind buying right and left based only on RUclipsr recommendations, but thankfully I snapped out early. What I do now is buy 2ml decants, or discovery sets, test the scent first. Believe it or not, out of almost 90 samples I bought, I ended up buying only 3 full bottles, and have maybe 5 on my wish list. The rest are good but not worthy of a full bottle purchase to me. I can live without them.

Good topic ! I recognize experience speaking here, thank you for sharing :) . Although I found Narcisse Taiji too powdery for me (I prefer Hermès cologne "narcisse bleu"), I like the note of narcissus and I totally agree when you say it's a different and very unisex note. The whole family smelled and approved the not spoken enough "Ganymede" and my son adopted it (surprisingly so because he's only 18, I would have thought he'd prefer a freshie !). I loooove this fragrance, to me it's class in a bottle, and although just like you performance is not my first concern, the performance of this one is EXTRAORDINARY.

The thing you don't mention is someone new hasn't developed a nose for those fragrances, part of the journey is progression. But yes I agree no need to be buying up the rack stores. At the same time staying within your means.

Great, Justin. I've been having this dilemma lately: quality or quantity? This video is timely and is actually for me. Thanks for the guidance. I now see why I should go for QUALITY now.... Having plenty of fragrances to choose from, I think it makes sense to go for quality. Most of us Fragheads already have more fragrances than we need in a life time, so it's high time to really ponder. Thanks again, Justin. My regards.

Some of these niche suggestions 👌🏽 in this video are fantastic. I’ll try to get my hands on some samples. This is an older video so some of the links are no longer active. I’ve seen a few in some of your more recent content. Either way, I’ll do more research to find them. - Thx as always for the great selection to review.
Wondering if you’ve reviewed any of these brands?
    - Electimuss Gladiator Oud
    -The House of Oud
    -Blackcliff Parfums
If you haven’t, hope I’ll catch a review on some of these sometime in some of your more current content. 🤞🏽 😇

Agree with you Justin. At the moment, I mainly wear Halfeti and Cedrat Boisé depending on my mood. And from time to time, discussing with selling assistants & shop owners feed a growing collection of samples.
Black phantom for instance is interesting (ticks your 3 boxes), but I don't see myself buying a full bottle.
Lord Georges is a wonderful fragrances, but the poor performance on my skin pushes my away.
BTW surprised you didn't mention Halfeti Cedar ;)

Thanks for bringing Ganymede to our attention. I recently purchased a sample pack from the house of Marc Antoinne Barrios including all three of their releases. Hey, Justin! No worries. But I think you'll likely want to know. I just used your link in the description box and placed my first order with MaxAroma: two Manceras and two Nasomattos I didn't have for under $400. But your discount code didn't work. I'm guessing because they were "sale" items but I don't know. It just said that the code didn't apply to the items in my cart. So I'd suggest checking into that for others sakes or changing the wording in your description from "all items" to "all regularly priced items." Just a heads up. They didn't seem to have "Eternal Flame" either! Your content is awesome, as always! 👍❤

And i find myself getting more compliments on fragrances like Kenneth Cole Vintage Black, Guess 1981, Kenneth Cole Signature. If i could i would splurge and purchase myself a bottle of cologne for over $100 dollars but can't right now. My fiancée was stricken with an illness where I'm more focus on her getting better than buying that. So my 30 to $40 cologne, the right ones i choose give me compliments just as much as the high end stuff. Same with Jordan's because i refuse to buy a pair of gym shoes priced at $150 or more because they're endorsed by a famous athlete. Ill pay no more than $80 for a pair of crosstrainers, etc. Some things in life are more important than these high end priced items. That's why so many of the young generation have nothing to show. So big on gucci this, michael kors this, Chanel this, etc. If a man or woman like you its about being yourself. Anything else its just about material things either you're providing them or yourself or both

Thanks. Niche are mostly good quality. Though at times we find designer frags costing much more than a similar scent in niche- they hype from Y-tubers. Goes indie all the time. Much cheaper than the known expensive brands. Ganymede is in my to get list this year. Hv a sample from lucky scent. Nice scent. Saving

Genuine question. What style of music are you playing in the intro? To my ears it sounds like you’re playing out of key. I’m self taught and I don’t know much about music theory, but this kinda sounds like me trying to jam over a random backing track and struggling to find the key and hit the right notes, which happens all the time sadly haha.

    • @stayfreshproductions
      @stayfreshproductions  2 года назад

The style is a bit irrelevant, it can be whatever it sounds like to you.
I am intentionally superimposing sounds that are outside of the key. Rather than focusing on the notes, I’m focusing more on phrasing and melody. It’s more of a macro perspective than a micro one.
