- Only 4% of directors are women - so producer Meredith Finch founded the Nevertheless Film Festival to erase stigmas and spotlight women-made projects. (In partnership with Time’s Up)

A 2018 report revealed women made up just 4% of directors in the 1200 top-grossing films of 2007-2018. TIME’S UP and USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative launched the #4PercentChallenge in response, tasking industry members to pledge to work with at least one woman director in a future project.
Finch says the problem goes deeper than representation for women directors. Every film in the Nevertheless Film Festival program includes at least 50% female-identifying filmmakers including directors, producers, editors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and more.
Finch: 'You know what's like also insane? There was 3 percent of cinematographers of the top movies of between 2016 and 2018 were women 3 percent. And then it was like two point three percent of composers. It was like seven people or something like the numbers are insane. Beyond just the directing and I think that it's really important to talk about that because there are more people that go into making a movie than a director'

Totally sexist. She is an "issue". This is divisive more than it is helpful.
Wow, when a measly 4% representation is a Goal, you know there's a problem. :/
This speaks a lot about the few who are scripting, filming and framing the stories of a community and country. I hope this shines a well needed spotlight and pushes for diversity in film.
We don't need a "push" for diversity.
Women are a hot commodity in the leftist media machine, and can get handed gigs well above their competence level. The problem is that very few women realize their potential, or don't have any to begin with.
You can't just stick people behind the camera who have no idea what they're doing, that's how Disney lost hundreds of millions.
@@g.e.o.r.g.e... What exactly makes you think that men fresh out of film school are more competent than women? WTF does political association have to do with your argument or the reality that the film industry is a hold out against female integration in the workplace? Everyone is new once but only men are being treated as capable, surprise surprise, by other men in a 'old boy's' club like film at that. Try focusing on the facts and utilizing logic.
@@MagpieRomanticArts the film industry is definitely NOT against female integration, and is basically 95% leftists. Men are not automatically treated as capable, they either are or they fail. I don't know what universe you live in, where apparently Disney and Warner aren't trying to actively court every woman with any inkling of talent for their billion dollar franchises...
@@MagpieRomanticArts tell me why there aren't more female god-tier composers and why there is only one woman in the top 200 of chess players.
Why are you avoiding the question of natural ability and intelligence?
I wonder what would happen if someone created a men’s only film festival, imagine the outrage.
I know, right? Women... There's about less than 4% of women who are plumbers and construction workers too. Why don't you have a festival for them?
4% doesn't seem right. Unless they mean like successful directors.
I guess the male competition was too much
And yet Now This choose to label it exactly that in the title itself.
Was that Anna Akana at 3:00 mark?
So I guess I can make my own all male film festival? It's not sexist, right?
I freaked out when the mole switched sides of her head
🤣
Movie going to be anti white anti alpha anti male or just about female's or just about feminism?
Sexism is so sad
And the majority of the viewer, film enthusiasts are male. Well..... this festival gonna flop... 😂
Women making a film about men would be a smash hit, just use that as a title .
Point Break, 28 years ago.
Imagine a man doing this
Men do it all the time.
@@landofthelivingskies3318 you mean with competitions that are segregated to protect women?
Segregation! Remember when we thought it was BAD to exclude people? Not anymore apparantly! Women CLEARLY need a special event to show how great they are! Not like they can achieve it on their own, am i right?
They physically can't.
And theyre all gonna grow old miserable and alone
Womens numbers in those areas are really poor because majority of women have no interest in cinema works or is it also a problem of men? She sounded like it is a problem of men.
There are perhaps 15 people alive today who are capable of directing an excellent movie, and maaaybe one of them is a woman. It is undoubtedly the most exclusive and scrutinized job in existence. There are literally more astronauts, or experimental aircraft pilots, or microprocessor designers at a semiconductor foundry, than directors of films worthy of more than an 8.0/10.
Maybe men just like movies more I guess that defeats your point
Kinda sexist but whatever.. good for them.
Clearly sexist, but I don't care either. However, when she said "it's not a woman's festival. It just happens to be 26 women" was an absolute shameful lie.
I disagree men always put women down most men are film directions
@@gillowens24 men always put women down... Thats a sexist comment.
@@gillowens24 We put down bad directors, not women. Good grief, what is it with people demanding equality and then screeching about discrimination when they actually get equal treatment?
Most film directors are trash.
Being excellent at that job is about 100x more rare than being a chess grandmaster.
Women can Anthing no listen to negative people
gillian owens yes they can text with out typo- Wait never mind
Women have a pretty bad track record of inventing things, an occupation with literally zero barriers.
They can definitely be sexist and hypocritical at the same time, thats for sure
Wow 39 incels disliked this...lol
How many current directors would you say are capable of making masterpieces? Five?
Triggered
Kathryn Bigelow is perhaps the only woman alive today who has the chops to direct a good movie.
It's most likely biological. Men are perceptibly quite a bit better at the type of spacial visualization or nuts and bolts stuff that goes into directing, composing and lighting for a scene.
Evolution got us here.
Whatever makes them feel validated. Back pats for everyone!
Take your participation trophy and go home.
This is gonna flop lol
