LOVE these obsessive compulsive preparedness kits! ;) It's so good to see people that actually use their brain to come up with contingency strategies for when things go wrong. (because they will) I would add a few things: •small head lamp (at least one) with extra batteries •small led lantern (or some other wide area illumination) again, with batteries •a few light sticks/snap lights •some form of insect repellent (citronella candles, pic coils, spray, punks, etc) since there doesn't look like enough room to include a mosquito net •a few space blankets just for good measure (or making the aforementioned super shelter) They weigh almost nothing and take up almost no space •repair kit with tarp patching material, adhesive, duct tape, heavy duty thread, needles, safety pins, etc •a small first aid kit and a few trauma dressings just in case/as back up to other pack's first aid items •tools; mutli tool, small hand axe, folding saw for removing branches/cutting support poles *many of these items are small (and inexpensive) and most could be put into a molle pouch and attached to the outside for quick access. STAY PREPPED, BROTHER! (Something tells me we may need our preps soon)
G'day Chris, I use those 'nail' tent pegs on my tents. Also, I anchored my flimsy 10' x 6' pre-fab hot house with them and that structure stood up, rather stayed down, during a mild cyclone! Real good kit. The twist type tarp clips are also outstanding kit. Even turns an excellent UK Army 'basha' tarp into a more flexible, adaptable emergency and/or camping cover. Good vid! As usual. I used to do something like this while motorcycle camping, except more lean-toish! I found Walmart sold a cheap dining fly set up where the poles broke down in half, so I Frankenstein ed them, keeping them in my bag chair bag!! Being that I used my tent as the main support, I only used 3 poles in front. The tips were point like (like a nail), fitted through the grommets, then two 8' cordage over the tarps grommets (a taunt line loop tide on each end), * then finished off with with a hooked bunji cords (incase of wind!)and the same stake you use. Being that tent is the support, the remaining centered grommets are tied off with said taunt line/bunji set up in a lean-to fashion. I learned the bunji trick from some old truckers that i used to motorcycle camp with. Now if you don't used a tent your ridgeline would service or a branch with half a tennis ball atop, so it doesn't puncture the tarp. Mark...
Had all the components but never really thought to prepack them and make them part of the truck loadout. Just gathered the parts and packed it up including a hammock. I had a similar bag that worked very well I had picked up a couple in different colors for an AR pistol kit a while back. I would recommend it. Chris, love your channel man. a quick suggestion on your shark clips. try slapping a key ring through the steak hole. might add some utility as well as save you the twisting on the tarp when staking down.
Loved the video... I have a quick fix for your shark clip . If you place a small piece of Paracort about 3 inches long permanently on the end of the shark clips, this would give you the option of vertical or horizontal attachment to the ground or any other points like trees and bushes. Thanks again for all you do in the great videos.

Chris, looks like you might have some of the older style Screw down tarp clips, i purchased the same ones you have used after watching one of your tarp configuration videos, the ones i acquired do have the angled teeth, picked them up at my local walmart, could try looking there, if not id be more then happy and willing to grab you a few so you don't run out say a few of them happen to break.

+Atlantic Woodsman An alternate bag that would work is an old tent bag. Or, roll everything up in the tarp and use 2 of the clips to clip the portion holding the items shut.
Great idea - Great video. I am somewhat doubtful about the gripping capabilities of the Tarp Shark. It looks like the Sharks are biting its teeth top to top, whereas the black/grey clips close in a zig-zig wedge style that will provide a much larger friction area. Would be a great bonus entry in an upcoming video to see a grip/tear force comparison of the two clip styles.
I've also been making a base camp in bag( shelter in bag)....I have shower curtain/clear table top cover as my " window". I didn't see the mylar space blanket in this one. :D TFS chris always enjoy your videos :D C.R.
+PREPAREDMIND101 Those clips would probably work well with some "U" shaped stakes. They would basically be double stakes, and you could probably get away with having them a lot shorter than the others. You're full of great ideas.
The "Tarp Shark" clips at Amazon look like small, plastic sharks, although they'd probably work. A better fit from an eyeball test is the"Tekton Tarp Clip" from Home Depot.
Nice kit. Where were the tripod extendable legs? That is a great use for that bag. Easy to open and you could just shove it back in if needed. You could probably get a couple cheap hammocks in that bag also. Privative shelter is for "survival" This is just like you said, Prepared.

I love the base camp in a bag videos! Would a space blanket be worth throwing in to the bag to add a reflective surface to the tarp? Could be attached with tarp clips. Anyhow loving 2016!
@Chris: FYI Harbor Freight has modified their tarp clips. Now have alligator teeth and screw (not slide). Just picked some up. Items 63067. Not even updated on their website yet. Seems exactly what you wanted.

In regargs to the extenable tarp pole. You will more than likely be setting up the camo tarp in woodland, use wood stick like you use before but carry something cupped and rounded. I like half a kinder egg ( kids choclate egg sweet thing with a toy inside) or something similar ( like storing my ear phones in them by the way even in my edc, try it, it works well) and put half of it on top of stick and pull edge of tarp over it and tie around to secure. No tarp damage , lighter than a old telescopic camera pole. Or an old plastic pop/water bottle with lid on, which could also be used as a funnel to put a coffee water filter ( or somethig similar ) in to pre filter water, as you like multi use items would also work well. Not seen inside you med or bits and bobs bag but water purification tabs, alcho/sterilisation wipes and hand sanitizer gel, oxo cubes/dehydrated soups and milk, oats, salt and sugar sachets 3 in 1 coffee, tortilla wraps, peperami, bags of salted peaunts and tp should be stuffed in to all available spaces in your pack. I love your vids and know you ain't daft so you probably have it covered. Just incase thought I'd mention it. Recommend sticking. Oops mi xs gone hada good drink here so I will stop my rzmbling but I must say I really enjoy your vids. Respect and ATB in the future. Lots of love (but not in a gay way) Matt G.
Just to clatify the comment i made below the pop/water bottle bit. Cut the neck off the plastic water/pop bottle to make the funnel shape. Hope that makes more sense. By the way Prusik knot is awesome, and easy to learn once practiced a few times and easy to remember. I'm sure you have fun with all the toys but if learn like 2 knots you can do all that with a couple of §ticks some line and the tarp . skip the clips and get a nylon tarp (much lighter and way more compact ) and Para cord .the spikes aren't bad (aluminum) been carrying this kit(tarp cord spikes ). for many many years . good vid
Found Ozark Trail 4pk Tarp Clips in Walmart for $4. They are this same design with the screw down mechanism. Bought a pack the other day but haven't tried them out yet so don't know the quality vs other brands.

I am just curious of how you carry this bag in on top of a regular pack and gear? Not that it seems heavy but just awkward. Im going to guess other people break it down as components of their pack. I do like the idea of a base camp that can be sitting in the truck at all times
I'd say yes to all, but get some of the bigger body warmers too. Saved me from some miserable nights in the Army. Those Grabber blankets are brilliant pieces of kit as well.

I would suggest something to nail the staked down I know you can use a rock but you can't always find a rock or limb so maybe a Jessica X would work just use the back of the handle on the spine and boom
Good video, too many are unprepared for a night or three alone even very savvy wilderness campers. More on go bags, medical bags and dare I say it "survival bags" can only be a good thing. One thing that I've never seen anyone talk about is food storage. I use a Food Saver cryovac system. I can cryovac nuts, chocolate or energy bars and pretty much any food and it will stay fresh for well over a year in the trunk of the car, my bug out bag or whatever. I can also cryovac my more vulnerable medical surgical kit securing it from moisture for as many years as needed, my fire kit is locked into an air tight bag and I only need a neck knife to open any bag I might need and then I can reseal it once home. How's your boys arm doing, is he bragging or complaining?
Just an FYI..... I have a FoodSaver vacuum sealer, too. It isn't a Cryovac machine. It is a good idea to vac seal many different things that need to stay dry. However, might be regional differences, but where I live, few items will "stay fresh for well over a year" in my vehicles. Summer temps in a closed vehicle just too high for anything more than short term storage. That includes many commercially packaged foods. PS: Good Cryovac for the definition of same.

Shark cip wrong ang, 90 deg. Off set put a 4" loop of cordage through hole and pull it back through itself and let the corgage do tbe 90 deg. Twist so you can stake/tie it down as you like. Not read all the comments, migjt havr been suggested alresdy. ATB like you vids. Matt G.

Imagine having nothing but one set of clothes and $500.00 , first things first , Knife specific design! Managed to get enough gear barely and perfect the Art, and as I have heard you say, And Not Die!. I watch a lot of these videos I do not know if I am ready for the zombie attack, but at least I have a fine Excellent Knife. And learn something new almost everyone one of your videos..

WOuld a zippo handwarmer or disposable hand warmers be prudent to add? maybe a grabber emergency blanket and some foam sit pads
I'd say yes to all, but get some of the bigger body warmers too. Saved me from some miserable nights in the Army. Those Grabber blankets are brilliant pieces of kit as well.

those shark clips could stay in the with the tarp by just using some cordage to make small loops through the whole.

I would suggest something to nail the staked down I know you can use a rock but you can't always find a rock or limb so maybe a Jessica X would work just use the back of the handle on the spine and boom

Good video, too many are unprepared for a night or three alone even very savvy wilderness campers. More on go bags, medical bags and dare I say it "survival bags" can only be a good thing. One thing that I've never seen anyone talk about is food storage. I use a Food Saver cryovac system. I can cryovac nuts, chocolate or energy bars and pretty much any food and it will stay fresh for well over a year in the trunk of the car, my bug out bag or whatever. I can also cryovac my more vulnerable medical surgical kit securing it from moisture for as many years as needed, my fire kit is locked into an air tight bag and I only need a neck knife to open any bag I might need and then I can reseal it once home. How's your boys arm doing, is he bragging or complaining?
Just an FYI..... I have a FoodSaver vacuum sealer, too. It isn't a Cryovac machine. It is a good idea to vac seal many different things that need to stay dry. However, might be regional differences, but where I live, few items will "stay fresh for well over a year" in my vehicles. Summer temps in a closed vehicle just too high for anything more than short term storage. That includes many commercially packaged foods.

Can you do a video on how you organize all your gear. I have a lot of gear, but I suck at organizing. I don't see how all you gear reviewers do it. I do live in an apartment, so space is limited.
Shark cip wrong ang, 90 deg. Off set put a 4" loop of cordage through hole and pull it back through itself and let the corgage do tbe 90 deg. Twist so you can stake/tie it down as you like. Not read all the comments, migjt havr been suggested alresdy. ATB like you vids. Matt G.
