LOVE YOUR CATS NAMES - I've got a Calla Lily Monarch🦋 Bumblebee 🐝 - Here in North Carolina, when the pine trees drop pollen - everything turns yellow! I hadn't considered, that it made the bees 🐝 happy 😊
We have two cats Jazzy and Opal. Both are fixed. There is a male that's been coming around lately. He won't get near anyone but my wife named him Roger.
@@628DirtRooster Cats, are awesome! I like, that you didn't name your cats - typical cat names! My other cat a male, is named - Stormy Ether Reigns Cresent Moons 🌙 (LOL I kept adding on, to their names :) Though I usually call my cats Calla Lily and Stormy Handsome Man🙏
That is a crazy amount of bees. I got a little taste of swarming bees at work when a swarm came in and stayed for awhile on some work equipment. We called the local beekeeper that was really happy to be able to collect the colony. What I didn't know is that swarming bees are healthy bees and would make good honey. I got so close to them literally inches videoing them which I never would have done before. The beekeeper was very informative and I learned a lot that day.
When I drove flatbed, my favorite cargo was live bees...when i stopped driving for the night at a truck stop, often I had 3 parking spaces all to ourselves !! LOL I'd drive through the day, and would only stop ten minutes or so to water the bees' netting in the shade of the fuel island canopy. Mostly they'd stay inside the hives during the day because of the 60 mph wind which tires them but also keeps them rather cool. At night I'd have brought honey to spread out on the bed of the trailer to help them stay fed. Bees are interesting creatures. There wouldn't even be dandelions if it were not for bees. Am enjoying your vids. Thanks.
Girly girl here that is basically afraid of all bugs lol. Now I love what bee's do but I don't want to be around them. I have to say this was awesomely amazing lol. Wow, that was a lot of bees. You are a brave man. Thanks for sharing. Janice
very cool. you know y'all're a dedicated bee-raiser when you name your kitties after bees. i'm a geologist so i tend to name my kitties after rocks & minerals.
That was truly amazing! I do a little wildlife photography as a hobby and recently had the good fortune to find a couple of feral colonies to photograph. In an effort to learn more about bees I discovered this channel on RUclips. I can't tell you how much I appreciate these videos that you have posted. I have been catching up with your work for a little more than a month now, watching a video or two every few days. Not only have I learned a lot, I have also been tremendously entertained by you and your dad. This particular video was like the cherry on top of an already sweet sundae! Just simply AMAZING! I know it's an old video, but I just had to let you know how much I loved it! Thanks, Randy!
How does someone make such a large buckets of pollen? Is somebody shaking blooming trees and then scooping all the pollen up? Or how do you harvest this much pure pollen (without accidentally getting honey in it) from honey bee colonies just to feed other colonies?
Gaming Watafak no freaking way he could afford to feed his bees that pollen. Maybe he gets it from grasses they make shit tons of pollen because they don't have pollinators they need wind to do their pollinating.
Sir, you're nuts sicking your hand in bees...but I am happy how much respect you got for bees and helping them out like that. That pollen would literally send me into a sneezing fit
I have no idea how I stumbled across your bee videos, but I have learnt so much about them and think your vids are just so awesome. Not my usual channel to watch but I can comfortably say you guys are great.
@@Keith_Mikell I wish we could have seen you use that yellow stuff with your bees or are you gonna make a Cajun mix outta that for fish and chicken coatings?
That was very cool, thanks for sharing it with us! Must have been amazing to watch, especially when the wind was moving them in waves like that! "BB did you get in the pollen?" XD
I have to say it worries me though... I hear the big guys, I know they buy your queens, but that... the bees die because they don't get enough fresh varied forage (clean food is what I've head some bee keepers call it). But, yeah, if there was a mass feeding method for those who happened to be on the shipping yard when not cycling through clean this would be it. I'm thinking, you see that this isn't necessarily what I'm afraid of, as many bees could be kept elsewhere. But the old dudes seemed to think 3 or 6 months on clean food would be normal for bees, so when people bring up fungus, beetles, and pesticide, I tend to think of not enough non-monoculture food. I hope the pollen is similarly multi-sourced as it occurs to me I don't know what's in it. Anyway, still amazing.
No doubt that would fill your dance card. Every time I've been on his yard there has been at least three guys working. I'm not sure how many employees he has but his bees are spread out through two states right now.
Hi Dirtrooster, saw this and your other videos from being displayed on io9. Really cool of you to share these videos, they're very interesting and educational. Hope to see more of these from you.
Just wondering, but where does the owner of that company order such large quantities of pollen from? Are there other similarly sized operation that only specialize in pollen collection or is it a byproduct of some other industry? I can understand that sourcing tankers of sugar syrup might be more straightforward, but the pollen remains a mystery to me. I suppose that as long as someone is willing to pay for it, someone else is willing to do the work for collecting the pollen though. Would love to see a documentary on tv about this topic, its really interesting. I can see kids getting really excited about learning about this kind of stuff.
Sumanth Neerumalla Not sure if this was real pollen or a substitute but check out pollen traps. Collecting pollen in smaller quantities isn't too hard. Here is a link to bulk substitute. www.mannlakeltd.com/beekeeping-supplies/product/FD-212.html

Thanks for watching Pablo.
How does someone make such a large buckets of pollen? Is somebody shaking blooming trees and then scooping all the pollen up? Or how do you harvest this much pure pollen (without accidentally getting honey in it) from honey bee colonies just to feed other colonies?
you place a net under the hive exit and when the bees come w the pollen , sometimes the pollen will fall down cuz of the net .
It's a substitute in this video.
That it not pure pollen
Gaming Watafak no freaking way he could afford to feed his bees that pollen. Maybe he gets it from grasses they make shit tons of pollen because they don't have pollinators they need wind to do their pollinating.
You ask the bees nicely for some.

Naturally foraged is best but with the amount of bees they run through these yards there isn't enough food out there for all of them.
