Kids today don't have a clue how much freedom a minibike gave you when you were like 13-14. It was amazing. I loved mine! I added an old military surplus small engine gas tank I got for $1.00 at the surplus store so I could run x5 longer than the normal small tank. It would go about 28 mph flat out. One day after putting a new centripetal clutch on I accidentally didn't put the fly wheel on completely straight and bent the cam shaft.. My school shop teacher had a 1955 Tecumseh engine sitting around and said I could have it! It was a bullet proof engine that had little torque but once it got going it really went. So many good memories.
What a great story about your youth. Yes, kids today miss out on a feeling of accomplishment, freedom and self reliance. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍 Dan & Sarah.
Gas was .30-odd cents a gallon in 1971 when I got my Scat Cat. You could play all day Saturday on a gallon. In the winter, the old flat head engines ran better because they ran cooler. I learned how to work on car engines by tinkering with old flat head Tecumseh and Briggs engines. Man, those were good years.
You know I'm 14 and I'm lucky to have found and old abandoned stellar trail minibike from the 70s that was free in someone's yard and had and old 3.5 ho flathead Tecumseh I rebuilt and I completely repainted the frame and added an ammo box for tools and other things but I ride down to the creek to fish and one day I hope to ride up in Alaska but I'm very lucky to have a mini bike
1976, got my first new bike. USA bicentennial edition Hiawatha from local Gambles hardware store. Red white & blue, chrome bars w/ a prism USA plate, white seat, knobby tires. I remember my dad replacing alot of front wheel bearings cuz of jumps & wheelies. Rode it hard until crank bent. Those were the days....... thx for the memories
Thanks for watching & sharing your happy memories. Dan and Sarah.
Takes me back to the old Rupp. Mini bikes were huge in my neighborhood . I remember big kids wearing singletrack in undeveloped land around my childhood home in the late 60's. Got my first mb from Sears or JCPenney's.. probably 1972. It was the mighty Golden Pinto. Ha! Now at 61, I got the bug. Looking at possibly building a frame up..or modifying a Coleman... I will probaby have several. Too much fun!
So cool, when we were young you just picked then out of the garbage, a running mini bike was $20 back in the seventies, I had 4 at one time once, those were the days.
For sure. Thanks for commenting! Dan & Sarah
I believe mine was a Comette 3 , only kid around with a chopper
1968 i was drooling over my minibike magazines and the ads in other magazines , i really wanted a first year honda mini trail 50 they were $200. & With lights $250. We went to look at them several times but my Dad wouldn't budge but shortly after at Sears he bought me the Puncher which was just a rebranded Bird.i wore out 3 motors and had a blast. When i turned 15 and got my learners license we were back at the Honda dealership and this time he bought me a 71 Honda SL100. Now reliving my youth i have a small herd of mini bikes my favorite being a Bonanza i bought a few years back.
Two words, "Centrifugal Clutch" Great memories...
We agree👍👍
I always wondered what the 1969 Rupp Roadster retailed for. This was my adolescent dream bike that could always be found in the back pages of "Boys' Life" and "Popular Mechanics" magazines.
I wish I knew, I would figure $200 to $300. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 Dan & Sarah
Mine is in my shed..waiting for a restoration

I had a little Indian when I was in the 2nd grade lots of good memories
Did any of these ads come from Boys Life magazine? I remember reading through those magazines in the library just to find all the mini-bike and go-kart kits and fully assembled models that were marketed in them.
Yes, some of them did 👍👍
Proud owner of a Cat Duster chopper here.
Sweet mini bike for sure👍👍
No helmets. No masks. Great time to be alive.

hi K V...
never use a seatbelt on the mini-motorcycle / motorcycle
In 1971 we got a used Yamaha 60 for Christmas. Man, I thought we must be rich!
Heck yes, I bet you did! 🙂 D&S.
I remember my older neighbors that were friends of my brother had a Harley Davidson 80cc 2 stroke mini-bike that was in immaculate condition up for sale and wanted $200 for it and I was sure that I was finally going to get... I went over to see why they didn't have it displayed out in front with the for sale sign anymore and found out that it was sold and not to my parents... Crushed! That is when I started cutting...
Hopefully you got help and are now in grips with your importance to others and yourself.
@@danprzyojski9935 Thank you Dan but I was fibbing in relation to the devastating realization of no mini-bike...
@@theodoredavidmooney5703 Oh, okay. I'm happy to hear that. I reacted because you never know if someone needs someone to talk to. Ride on!!
