Dear Marco, yours is an excellent setup... excellent and very easy. Thanks a lot... If one uses Zotero for the source management and eventually uses the Zotero integration plugin for the Obsidian, YOUR setup can be enhanced tremendously just by placing the link to the file in the Zotero just below the book heading. I recommend reading in the Zotero, the pdf annotation features of Zotero are really high-class. Also, there is an added advantage. when you finish up the book, just import all your annotations and notes into the same file to keep the things in one place. thanks for the setup though... regards 😍
Hi just wanna say thanks for this amazing tutorial! I'm new to Obsidian and am trying to build a library in it, this one is just neat and pretty :) Thanks a lot Marco!
Thanks for the great instructions. This works fine for me with one exception: I can select all parameters in the Gallery View, except for covers. This parameter is not displayed. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? The cover field in the template is filled in perfectly by Google, so that can't be the problem. I made the template with the new properties function.
It looks like the problem existed because the property Type of the cover was a list instead of a text. After changing the property type it works great.
Hey, thank you! Yes, this kind of issue can happen usually for two reasons: 1. If the property field is assigned to the wrong type 2. If at least one of the notes has an error inside that field. Cheers!
Great video! I did it all right. The only thing I don't understand is why when I click on the title of a book in the gallery view, it doesn't switch to the book itself, but a window with metadata editing appears. And when I click on a book from the list in table view, I am properly thrown inside the book, where I can view all the information. What could be the problem?
Great video. Only one issue- when I change the status of a book from 'unread' to 'read', I get an error icon in the project inspector. It only goes away if I change it back to 'read'. Any idea why this is happening?
Thank you, Tray! I tested it just now and it works fine for me. Could you provide more details about the error? Also, is the "status" property field a text type? Where are you changing the property value-on the project card or from the note? Cheers!
Hey Marco, thanks for this I've been using it and it works great! I'm a musician/producer and would like to have a music database and was hoping to do something similar to this video but with audio/music. Had a look for a music list plugin with no luck. Media DB looks like it could do it but I wouldn't know how to set it up, is this something that you might wanna consider? There are a couple of reddit posts out there with some accomplishing some sort of database but for somenone like me who's not experienced in connecting databases with queries and plugins this would be really useful, many thanks
Hello Marco! Thanks for the video. I wanted to ask you, if it is possible to add the "Publisher" property, what is the function to write? Thanks in advance if you reply!
Hello Marco. The book search plugin does not work for me; when I try to search, it gives me: no results found. I tried to install this plugin on another vault, create my own api key for google books, install the plugin version as in your video, but all this did not solve the problem, could you help me?
Hey, sorry to hear that. I've tested reinstalling the plugin and simply copying and pasting the template from the video description. It works perfectly for me, and I don't use any Google Book API. Could you give it another shot? There might have been some temporary glitches. If the problem persists, I recommend sharing some screenshots on my Discord for further help, or report the issue directly through the GitHub plugin repository. Cheers!
Wish you had included the code in the template in the information about the template. As someone that is not so familiar with code, I hade to take screen shots to capture the code so I could use it.
Hey, you just need to store the number of highlights as a property in your book note. Then, enable that property from the "Include fields" dropdown menu in your project view.
This is the best! I copied this for my vault. Perhaps you can make a video on how I would apply this book template to what is produced from the kindle sync plugin using the my clippings file? I’m also not sure what the code does even after listening to your explanation. Love your videos!
Hey, thank you very much! I don't know about the kindle sync plugin but maybe I'll take a look at it. Regarding the templater code, Obsidian treats the information inside the "" as regular text instead of frontmatter. This prevents Obsidian from detecting metadata inside the template (e.g. during dataview queries). Cheers!
I used Notion years ago and tried it again when they acquired Cron and launched the Notion Calendar. However, I don't think it's the right fit for me. Obsidian provides greater flexibility and customization, and I feel my notes truly belong to me (I’m sorry, but I don’t fully trust Notion). That said, Notion databases are powerful tools, along with other features. However, I prefer using ClickUp for my project and business management.
@@Marco_Mindstone Hello! It means that in my obsidian, as soon as I search for the book, as you teach in the video, it does not download the information of the book, in the format of Properties, it does not look like yours. Download in simple format. I think I'm doing something wrong.
