Some great ideas (even for this obsessive packing perfectionist)! And I love that your channel just gets into the subject without lots of introductory filler. Thank you!
Very well done video. Sound, lighting and content. The description, timestamps, and links were all presented clearly. I look forward to a deep dive into your channel. Thank you for your work!
I recently went to Mexico and could only bring a carry on with me. I used mosquito repellant bracelets and a bug bite soothing stick/balm. I also used a solid lotion stick. Life savers!
I live in Canada and a company called Birch Babe makes a dry mascara that is in a small tin. It is in a solid form. You just add a bit of water and mix it and apply with a travel applicator. I use it all the time!
Oh my goodness, you tried the face melts and you love them too. I am so happy! I still can’t get over how small the melts are. I messaged you and your husband with a link to try them. Thanks for the awesome video!
I have switched to a lot of solid products for travel but Downey Wrinkle Release is a must for us when travelling with only carryon! Lots of good tips here, thank you.
I love Matador soap saver bags! Also from NWA and get ours at Gearhead Pinnacle location, they are cheaper than Amazon. Love watching and seeing people from our area!!
I long ago switched to solid toiletries to avoid the TSA complications. Many places I go have adequate soaps and gels. I use tooth tablets rather than paste, mint flavor. Bar sunscreen and soap sheets as well.
I love the kitsch shampoo and conditioner bars. I've switched to using those everyday. My hairdresser says my hair is very healthy. It leaves it super soft! I still use the clinique bar soap. I use their travel size. I've been having a hard time finding it lately; they might have discontinued it which would be sad. I still have the soap dish for the travel size, so when I run out I will cut up the bar into the travel size. I use it as face and body wash, since I have super sensitive skin. One product, two uses.
The sunscreen sticks can work for reapplication, but you would have to apply so much to get the coverage you need to get to the SPF on the instructions you’d be a greasy mess. I decant sun screen lotion into a smaller tube. If needed, I can buy more after I arrive but I’m able to get the coverage I need.
Deodrant - I was recently tight on space. Mine is one where you twist and gel comes out of holes at the top. Although it required that I subsequently applied it with my fingers, I actually decanted enough twists for the days I was away in to a tiny (no bigger than 20ml) screw top pot Face cleaning- I have a cream cleaner in a big squeezy tube. Again, I just squeeze out how much I need in to a small screw top pot. Toothpaste - when my tube at home is getting low, I put it to one side for travel use. Full its no bigger than 100ml anyway so not an issue. Then I’m always using the same products I use at home and an not wasting resources on small throw away items.
Great tips as always! I'm a fan of your channel. FYI there's no such thing as "TSA-approved" because the TSA don't have a process for certifying products. Things can be TSA-compliant but certainly not approved. Cheers! 🍻
Yes! Each airport has their own rules. U.S. is 3.4 oz but all size meds are ok. Heathrow is 3.0 oz (100 ml) they took the 3.4 oz contact lense cleaner. Didn’t matter that it was for medical use.
Never knew mascara is considered as a liquid. I've always just packed it in my toiletry bag, and fortunately, never questioned about it. Very interesting.
I switched to no liquids for my trips this year. Between that and Global Entry TSA has been a breeze to get through and foreign airports are just as easy.
I bring bar soap and bar shampoo, and cut into smaller pieces. A little goes a long way. I started using lipstick/lipgloss containers for moisturizer, etc. Holds a lot. I have yet to try toothpaste tabs.
I've actually switched to powder face washes. I use dermalogica. I've also liked using the one from origin. I also recently got the kitsch solid shampoo bar so I'll give that a shot on my next trip. As far as how to store these, I use the Matador soap bar storage bags. They're great because they allow the moisture to evaporate, but don't leak. I used to use a plastic bag, but I didn't like the way the bar was all mushy by the time I got to my next destination.
This is a really useful video. Thank you! But just a heads up - sunscreen sticks do not end up giving you anywhere near the listed SPF. The amount that you would need to apply to reach it would require swiping it back and forth on your face for multiple minutes. You would look like an oil slick and it would be incredibly uncomfortable. Sadly, liquid sunscreen like a lotion or gel is necessary. Don’t make this substitution!
Thanks for another great video. i am getting the dry shampoo. I wish i could find a travel size mousse. I have the frizzy hair type that won't behave in humidity so i have to scrunch it into curls.
Side note. The little travel toothpaste tubes are expensive. When not flying I normally just put an almost-used up full-size tube of toothpaste into my toiletry kit. However, TSA does NOT care that there's almost nothing left in a large tube, the capacity of the tube is what they check for.
May I add another tip. For hand sanitizer, instead of the gel or alcohol spray kind, opt for handsanitizer wipes, as wipes are not restricted by the amount and does not count as liquid. Moreover, you can also use it to wipe down any dirty surfaces like chairs or table to avoid getting sick when traveling. 👍
@ 3.4oz = 100.55000ml 3.0oz = 88.720ml But Heathrow security didn’t understand that 100ml (their rule) = 3.4 oz 🤷♀️ So if the item had said 100ml, it could go thru but if bottle says 3.4oz, it gets trashed. Even though these are equal.
@@robine916 Exactly what I said 🤣 Security should have permitted my contact lense solution (at any size) as it’s classed as a medication. 1st guy allowed it; 2nd check tossed it 😂
Actually, you can just brush your teeth with baking soda if you want. No Fluoride but for the length of a trip it won't hurt you. Takes a bit of getting used to. It's salty not sweet.
On my recent trip to South Africa my solid moisturizer and eye stick were pulled from my luggage at the airport in Ottawa. Not sure if TSA rules have recently changed, but I had to move them into my liquids bag. Fortunately I had room!
@@ladymoon425 In 2023 when I went to Peru I did not have a problem and did not have to move them to my liquid bag, but this year to South Africa I did. These video’s should not tell people to use solid sticks in place of travelling with a liquid- bad advice!
Iberia failed to transfer my checked bag in Madrid for final leg. It was MIA for 3 1/2 days. I was told by Iberia Airlines reps to buy essential items and would be reimbursed. THEY LIED. This occurred early January, 2021 and I complied numerous times with documentation requests and *never* received anything more than empty promises for about 18 months. I wish there was help available.
Great tips except for transferring skin care to smaller containers. Not recommended as it affects stability, especially of sunscreen and can potentially cause contamination. Also the sunscreen stick though convenient is not effective as the main application (maybe useful for re-application as would require over 20 swipes which most people would not do) and the powder is even worse. Lab muffin beauty science youtube channel has actually tested it out.
Does anyone know if the laneige brand sleeping mask lip balm is considered a liquid or solid in tsa’s eyes? I’m addicted to it & want to bring it on my vacation but doing carryon only & the little tub takes up a bit of space in my quart bag - would like to know ahead of time but I’m leaning towards leaving it home
Has anyone found a non-aerosol/non-spray substitute for hair styling mousse that works for fine hair (e.g., gel or pomade)? Even a travel sized mousse takes up a lot of room in the liquids bag!

Their videos about luggage & backpacks are the best! Learned how to evaluate them to meet my needs. Found ones that worked for me & tips on packing.

A hack I learned from others is if you need a small amount of something, use a contact lense case to put it in.

Correct. I tried this with hand cream at Heathrow. They don't care it almost finished it is the volume printed on the tube.

I found travel sized bars of soap on Amazon that are packaged, probably for hotels to buy. When I leave the hotel, I just leave the soap.
The 3.4 ounces isn’t in all airports. Security at Heathrow took the solution for my contacts; said it’s 100ml or 3.0 ounces.

Can we carry small travel size hair spray? In the big check in bag or personal bag.??
In the liquids bag.
Would hair brushes go in checked bag? Or they have to go in toiletry.
I have half gallon zip locks
No, your brush doesn’t necessarily have to go in the toiletry bag. You can put it just in your checked bag if that is your preference.
That's honestly not enough SPF to obtain the listed on the product.

In the U.S., meds are exempt from the 3.4 oz rule. Put the antibiotic ointment & meds in a separate bag.
