I don’t work for the company lol. It’s just a great product any tech geek should have. I’m a fan of yours and you’ve helped me out with your videos so I wanted to give back. Enjoy!
I bought one a couple years ago. So worth it. I thought of something like this and spent quite a bit of time researching into solutions like Raspberry Pi acting as an optical drive emulator, and was in return mocked on several forums. Ended up finding this, and a couple other options but this one had the best reviews at the time.
I have an earlier version without the keypad from a few years ago. I don't think I would use the encryption either. But yes, I can vouch that these enclosures are great for anyone that works on PCs and the like. You can install and boot Linuxes and Windows (on the go) and other operating systems from VHD files stored on them. You can install those operating systems by simultaneously presenting the booted iso and the target VHD. It's awesome.
Followed your diskpart commands. I have the same error message on the device to create the iso folder, I have the same icons so it is in the same mode. When I open my explorer it is seen as a BD-ROM and thus waits "a disc" to be inserted. When I switch to HDD mode, the drive is not detected. So I cannot browse the device no matter what. What should I do ? EDIT: Found the solution. I had to mount the drive to a letter. Opened disk management, Right click on the volume, "Change drive letter and path" add a letter, and boom.
Have a couple of the older Zalman branded versions around. The weak jogwheel was addressed by the touch buttons but the micro-USB3 port is prone to damage - if they did a hardware revision with a USB-C port I'd buy cartons of them.
Thanks for the video, just ordered one with your link. One question, why NTFS instead of FAT32/exFAT? i was checking my USB created with Microsoft Media Creation Tool, it creates the bootable USBs as fat32 (this is true for win10 n 11), so just wondering why you chose NTFS?
Hello! Thank your for this video. I just got the IODD ST400 variant of this device. I'm planning to use it to provide ISOs and virtual boot/storage HDDs for Windows, Mac, and maybe Pis, but I wasn't sure at all how to start. The instructions are, as you noted, rather terrible for getting off the ground. I've followed your instructions to convert the thing to MBR. Two things I don't really understand: 1) When would I want multiple partitions? 2) When would I NOT want to use NTFS, if I have computers I can use to load the device that both mount NTFS drives without any problems? Thanks!
When you use something that isn't Windows i.e. MacOS or Linux, you may want either a non-windows partition and/or a format other than NTFS. It's one of those things, if you don't know you need it then you don't need it - it's just there for people that do need it or will need it in the future.
I recently purchased the product and find it quite helpful. I have a question pertaining to the product as well if I were to use GPT as my partition type does the device still function the same. I have tried and I don't know if there are extra steps because the IoDD simply let me access HDD mode but then showed the missing _ISO folder error and when I clicked on dual mode, and ODD mode it marked 1st partition and I feel I simply screwed up the device and started over. Any help would be appreciated!
You're going to have to reach out to them directly. I only used this device for about 6 months before it just kinda fell out of my interest. I've got it in a drawer somewhere, but haven't touched it in years.
I went with the SSD variant. It's a little finicky but it works. It's nice. Slapped a 512 in there and the thing that is the most annoying is that it doesn't always remember what OS is mounted upon re-waking up, so... THAT'S fun also their site and instructions are bare minimum and don't cover recall. SIGH...
hi I have a problem have made a folder as you show with _ISO and I have put windows 7 and xp and 8 10 in but when I go back write the 1st partition what should I do
Thanks for this, this will become a new gadget for me for sure. I was looking for something that would allow me to do just this. Glad it was recommended to you and you did a detailed walkthrough on it. Can you provide instructions on how to set it up through linux?
Hey DB, I just got the Iodd Mini and it came dead on arrival, won’t initialize. I’m getting an Event 51 paging error on several Win10 machines. I’ve tried all of the troubleshooting steps listed on Iodd’s site including the factory reset here (ruclips.net/video/on9ksrhne4Q/видео.html) and nothing works. I’m currently trying to work with Iodd on the warranty, but there’s a language barrier. Is there anything I can try to get this working or did I waste almost $300? Thank you in advance!
@@DBTechYT No worries, thought I’d ask. It looks like they don’t really uphold their warranty like they say they do. First I got a response that I should buy a replacement SSD and replace it myself (which would void the warranty ironically) and now I’m getting no response from them at all. It looks like my only option is to cut my losses at ~$300 or eat the cost of another SSD. Had I known this before I would’ve just gambled on the cheaper Iodd and replaced the SSD later if needed. What a bummer!
Sort of but those multiboot drives aren't the same as this device. This device can emulate a USB optical or hard drive and it can do this during boot or after the machine has started. Those multiboot usb's can only boot into an iso or boot image, they can't mount the iso/image after boot up. Also the multiboot usb's use the grub or syslinux to "try" to chainload into the ISO/image and boot it up. This often works but with some ISO's/image's or motherboard/BIOS combinations it doesn't work and the boot fails/system hangs. This device emulating an USB optical drive makes for more dependable operation as no sneaky trickery has to take place - the computer sees an optical drive attached and interacts with it as such.
I Used your Link because you have said that it was giving you a couple bucks, if you didnt say so, i would have just bought it from my other already opened tab, thanks for clarifying that and for your video.
Nope. I get too many complaints that I don't explain in enough detail what I'm talking about. So then, I explain in more detail and I get people telling me I talk too much. I literally can't make everyone happy so I'm going to keep making videos the way that *I* want to make them. The way that makes the most sense to me.

Works nicely with modern computers; but for old computers (like server or retro machines), this won't work as there are no DOS or Win3.11 drivers for using this device. I just wish they made something that would work like a real virtual drive; so people with old machines could use it to mount floppy images for example
