There is a flow restrictor on the inside but that is for all shower heads. If you have good pressure, it makes up for the volume of water. In my setup on the second floor, it gets weak especially when my whole house filter is reaching the end of its life. If you have 60+ psi at the shower head, you should have a good experience in the shower. Some people have low pressure and that is where issues with performance are noticeable.
The issue with the pressure drop was not due to the fixture. I installed a pressure reducing valve on the water main in the basement immediately after the water meter. The pressure in my town regularly goes around 100 psi and the reducer takes it down to 55-60 psi. I did this to help my hot water tank last longer. Many of my neighbors replace their tanks every 6-8 years mine has lasted for 11 years so far. Between the pressure reducer, whole house filter and the location (2nd floor bathroom), I lose a lot of pressure that would make this thing work properly with both head on.

Apparently the flow restrictor is inside the switching mechanism and cant be removed. UGH
