Hi Mike, Nice methods if no lathe available. Another way to keep even spacing is to wind two lengths of wire together, and after anchoring the ends of one of the wires, unwind the second. Stay safe. WJ3U
@@Boba-Fett-GS1150EzHi Ken, I like the idea of the weed eater line. You can select the diameter to give the needed spacing for the wire and as you say no need to remove it. :-) WJ3U
Don, you bet me to it, If you wind a line from a washing line along with the wire you are winding, then unwind the washing line, good thing about washing line, it come in various thicknesses.
Nice video Mike, bravo! The Master on lathe Bryan, old school!!! I think still the best, nice outlook and quality made coil for long time of use is that one on lathe made...👍
I have a mobile/portable set up and I was wondering if it was possible to build a coil that would be useful on vhf, I could use a coil and an integrated balin, I am a machinist so I can wind pretty epic coils. I just don’t understand them. Lol 200 meters per coil then stack them together it looks like 1000mm or 39.37 in coil would be doable.
@@internaut5610 That would make sense, I built a coil like that recently for EFHW for 80mts and the bandwidth was quite small. I might try more of a distance between the coils to see if widens a bit. Thanks.
Mike do you know if the DX 10 wire is sold in the USA? It looks like its really good for wire antennas and ground radials. really like the your videos.. N6ZN
Mike, thanks for sharing these techniques for making the coils. After winding, should you do anything to bind the wire in place for the long term? LCARA Ham Radio
Don’t let your shop teacher catch you leaving the chuck key in the Chuck with the machine running. I’ve seen a few tossed across the shop when the machine was engaged. We were taught the only time you can take your hands off the key is when it’s out of the Chuck.

Great idea
I can already hear the wife screaming - "If you damage my counter you bugger, I swear you will remodel my entire kitchen at your expense" . 😂🤣
Mikes lathe room looks and sounds like on the Titanic,hi! 😅 I love it! ❤
Wow Mike that is a nice gadget for your kitchen! Great job OM!
lol

Well said!

Спасибо Вам за видео! Очень познавательно!
I didn't catch it but with the lathe, how many TPI (turns per inch) did you have him do?
5mm spacing.
Great tips Mike thanks
Looks Greate

How can I re-compute turns for a 4" form? I have two coils already made and I want to know if they are sufficient. Thanks!

Another good one Mate. What would be the difference if rather than use the 5mm spacing, I just butt the cable to the previous rotation?
I'm guessing a higher Q factor, lower resonant frequency, greater reaction to rain or metal - but don't quote me... 🤔

Yep,
Where do you buy the dx wire from in the uk? Thanks great videos
The DX Commander... M0MCX.co.uk
Great stuff Mike, you can also use castellated grommet strips. what do you use to measure the inductance? 2E0UDB
Show you in the next video.. :)

I do not think so, however Callum from DXC is happy to ship... www.m0mcx.co.uk
DXEnginnering now sells the DX10 wire and Callum's DX Commander antennas in the USA.
Did he say what kind of pipe he is using for the forms? Some sort of PVC?
PVC 4mm wall 75mm Dia

Hi Chris, No need, but you can tape if needed.. :)
👏👏👏

Да, ключ в патроне это очень опасно.
Hi Mike, There Is ANother Method, Just Wind Up Two Wires And At The End Just Remove One, The Spacing Will be Perfect
Hi Kris. Great idea.
Very clever as usual Mike. 73's ON8EI John. PS Were you in the services?
Yep, :)
Hopefully i can get a clip of my friend using his fancy pants 5-head CNC machine making a few coils for you to add to this video Mike,,,,,,cheers
That would be cool!
Please take that chuck key out when not using it. It makes my starfish twitch 🙈🙈🙈

Did you send your wife on a shopping spree, while commandeering the kitchen?
Regards, M1ABV
Yes I did
Too tricky..... Make it easy!!!!
