I wish I lived around there sometimes. Digging Civil War artifacts is something else. We cannot do much here in the UK because just about everywhere worth going is prohibited. Not only that, where you can go, the soil is full of modern junk. They spray contaminated sewage just about everywhere. Excellent vids and highly informative.
Wow. I shave a saber bayonet that was passed down from my ex-wife’s father, and I have never been able to accurately identify it. It is German made, so I assumed it was probably from world war 2. Now I’m almost certain it is Civil War era. That is awesome!
The lack of oxygen was my first guess for the good condition of the ones found in the mud.I still find it amazing that you find that stuff. How many people, other than detectorist, would ever guess those things were there and survived. But good video as always !
Fantastic pieces of history there Beau, great video and it really illustrates how the environment effects the finds - same deal how some coins are 'like new' after 150 years, others are 'cactus' after 20! I'm going to have to get my AT Gold wet and see what lies hidden in the rivers - HH mate! Warren.
The blue waterproof headphones from Kellyco. The headphone wire length on them is only like 20 inches long (coiled). And when it goes to the other side of the control box I get the resistance in my swing. I guess I just need to get some wear on them , stretch them out a bit.
You can get the molasses from farm or rural hardware stores, or animal feed stores etc, just try it out on some test relics mate, not the best stuff you have. thanks Beau, love your vids mate
If you get the stuff Beau, 1litre of molasses to 10litres of water.... to be honest, minimum time to soak would be 4 weeks, Make sure you mix it well... and you can let it soak for as long as you like... I have stuff soaking for over a year. It will also start to smell like stale beer after a while, it could attract flies, bees, bugs etc... make sure you soak it away from your house, good luck mate. People who do up cars, suvs, hot rods etc use this method to soak car parts, car panels etc
I saw the one video you made on the things you found I wish I could find that stuff just sitting there I am a big military collector especially WW2. I like your doughboy helmet in your profile picture.
Thank you sir! I recently found my first socket bayonet and am looking for ideas about how to carefully preserve it. It is likely an 1853 Enfield model from the Civil War. 👍😎🦈🦈
Awesome finds Beau! I just bought my first detector its a cheaper one from Canadian Tire but it seems to work pretty well I've been playing around with the settings in my yard found a few beer caps a hotwheels car and a butter knife so far lol, But I live in a little town called Fort Erie we have a lot of history here so maybe I'll have some cool finds down the road! Well stay safe and happy detecting!
GREAT FINDS! got my AT pro a while ago havn't tried it out in water yet. hope i'l have some more luck then i do now. xD keep up the vids i realy enjoy watching them!
would the survival of the steel depend on the manufacturer , were any of these bayonets made with different levels of high carbon steel,, very interesting vid
Beau, I've recently decided to jump in the water for relics. I got the Pro and the waterproof headphones. How do you deal with the short length of the wire. It's bad enough the plug is on the right side of the machine but the wire is short also. Whats your secret? Interesting video by the way.
Seriously though....do you ever worry about getting sick from going under the water? I could live with the cow pies, etc. but how 'bout the other stuff? Anybody's guess as to what people have dropped in over the years.

TY for the lesson on why metal objects are found in the conditions they are.
GL & HH
Great finds ! Thanks for the info . As always thanks for sharing
That's a fantastic representation of how some things deteriorate and some don't. The Mud keeps them from Oxidizing. Interesting. Thx, Drew

On the forth bayonet. I believe that the hilts on all this type bayonet were melted down for the brass. Making this a very rare piece
The saber bayonette is my fav. 🤓
Yeah, it's pretty sweet. Thanks

Can all metal det be used in water, or do you have to buy a certain one?
This is a great video .can we get you to showcase your gun and gun parts that you have found .
would the survival of the steel depend on the manufacturer , were any of these bayonets made with different levels of high carbon steel,, very interesting vid
whats the vid with the ww2 bayonet?
Beau, I've recently decided to jump in the water for relics. I got the Pro and the waterproof headphones. How do you deal with the short length of the wire. It's bad enough the plug is on the right side of the machine but the wire is short also. Whats your secret? Interesting video by the way.
Excelente de nuevo.
Are the top 3 from springfield percussion cap rifles?
No I hav'nt mate, ... should be fine, only if you can afford the risk.
That sword bayonet might be for U.S. Model 1842 musket.
Cool
hey, beau would you sell the bayonet at the bottom? if so, what price?
You can buy those on ebay for 60 bucks in much nicer shape, if you are interested in getting a useable piece :)
What's the biggest thing you've ever found metal detecting
Why did you chose not to remove the lime on the well preserved bayone?
+Beau Ouimette thanks for letting me know. Im learning a lot from your videos. I watch them everyday.
Interesting they would throw that M1 Garand bayonet away like that.
Seriously though....do you ever worry about getting sick from going under the water?
I could live with the cow pies, etc. but how 'bout the other stuff?
Anybody's guess as to what people have dropped in over the years.
