      Near the end of the video I think someone notice he fucked up everything all the way through.
      There is no way in hell that system booted with the AIO mounted on 3 screws, long screws run through the radiator, the ram wrong, the PSU backward, etc.
      You know they skipped a whole bunch of footage because all of the sudden all IO cabling is plugged in, they won't show him screwing in the HS on the CPU and they go "and now we just close the case and boot".
      Besides that, I'm fairly certain they sat on that trainwreck for a long time because the CPU was an engineering sample and the guy way all like "yeah, we got this CPU !!!" while that CPU was already widely available from every retailer on earth for months already.
      And then they STILL published it.

    • @C-S-J
      @C-S-J 4 года назад +1

      @@enlightendbel To be fair, the guy never actually did anything that would have prevented the system from booting. The RAM in the wrong slots won't cause the system to fail, it will run in single channel mode and be restricted to half the bandwidth it would have had in dual channel mode. The PSU in backwards will cause the death of the power supply a month or two down the road after it's been overheated multiple times from starving the fan for airflow, but it wouldn't prevent the system booting. The missing 4th nut for the AIO would only cause the CPU to thermal throttle when you put a heavy enough load on it, it wouldn't cause the system to fail to boot either. You can get the system to post without a cooler installed at all, it will just thermal throttle and shut down if you put any kind of load on it. In that system with the games they played, the system would have probably worked fine because the AIO would have had enough contact to keep the CPU temperatures under control with gaming loads. Guarantee it would have thermal throttled if they would have put a load on it like Prime95.
      Don't get me wrong though, their build video was an absolute train wreck and they deserved the flaming they got from the community for it.
      The scariest thing is that there were 13 people involved in the creation of the video, then the video would have had to pass through their QC and editors before being posted to RUclips, and NOBODY there caught just how terrible their build guide video was.

    I am a brother, and I built my own computer. My latest is a 9900K z390 1080ti gaming rig, I looooove minecraft! Seriously. There are so many fails in this video, it should be classed as a fail compilation. Half the mistakes he made, could have been avoided if he had merely read the instructions that came with each component. The motherboard manual would have told you which slots to put the RAM in, the literature with the thermal compound would have told you how much to use. The AIOC (if it already had thremal compound applied) would have told him not to apply thermal compound separately, the power supply instructions would have told him how to place the suppl in relation to the fan. This is the most important point he forgot to mention... Read the instructions first!!!

    To be fair, some of what happened in the video were just bad practice (not wrong), like putting the motherboard in first. It's not wrong, but there are certainly easier and better way to do it.
    Then again, there were A LOT that are straight up wrong, like the anti static bracelet, zip tie-tweezer, suffocating psu fan, and long screw in the rad....

    I don't really understand the point of The Verge's video. It's kind of a "we're too cool to make a guide that's helpful so here's us throwing parts together in a random order with no idea what we're doing".
    Your reaction video is good. I'm as clueless as the guy in the video but I'm not about to make a guide. I made 1 computer in my life for myself. I messed up the RAM - I put it in the wrong slots (2-4 instead of 1-3 or whatever). My GPU could be in the wrong PCI slot(?) judging from this video and your commentary, never really thought about it. Thanks.

    • @MXDOUT
      @MXDOUT  5 лет назад +2

      Well 1) the very big difference is you are not trying to tell people show how to build a PC and you even admit being wrong is what the PC community is about and the other big difference is helping people to fix the problems they got or face ahead 😉

    • @MXDOUT
      @MXDOUT  5 лет назад +1

      I have a 1080. It was my first big purchase in my entire life, got my first career type job and was so happy about that. Figured I'd try a do it myself type of thing. I probably didn't need all the stuff I bought like the 1080 or the Ryzen CPU but I wanted to do something big. But yeah definitely this weekend I'll pull the side panel out, consult my motherboard map/guide and make sure it's in the right spot.

    • @RobBCactive
      @RobBCactive 3 года назад

      My Gigabyte board has slots 2 & 4 as the first, counter intuitive.
      It's actually the worst thing about the video, every system I have built, I needed to check details in the mobo book, especially the awkward connectors.
      They really should be telling novice builders to take their time and also think about air flow strategy.

    One of the best reactions to this vid i've seen.Tbh when i first saw that build vid i thought they were trolling the viewers because it was almost scripted to do everything wrong.And it's a good thing that Corsair Rm psu's fans dont spin up till about 50% load and lucky that termal paste he used was non-cunductive. You and all the techtubers need to keep showing people how to do it right and i'am so glad the verge took the vid down.

  • @colinjava8447

    Sebastion? I don't think it was linus building it, imagine that!
    That's right about the allen key, pretty much just watercooling stuff where you'd use it.
    But hes only got 1 size anyway, so if he needed an allen key for some reason he would just have to hope its exactly the right size.
    Also, he didn't cut the cable ties, you can see that in the end product.
    He was trying to make it as messy as possible contradicting his reason for getting an M.2 drive,
    Which was a silly reason anyway, you should get one for their speed, not really for the lack of cables.

    3:32 That's cos it's not an anti-static wristband, it's a charity bracelet. It's also made of some sort of rubber, rubber is not conductive, in fact, it's an insulator, it wouldn't conduct anything to ground so would be completely useless as an anti-static wristband. An anti-static wristband is supposed to stop static discharge damaging any of the components you're working with, it's supposed to have a grounding cable that you connect to something which will ground you, like the case you're working with or something else which is grounded. He said don't use a metal desk but a metal desk is good to use as long as it has it's own grounding cable and you clip yourself to it.

    I love it. Its like how many mistakes can u spot. I got; spreader, allen key, tweezers, hopeful screwdriver, antistatic band, (maybe he shoulda put on a condom as that might have helped as much) brace, mobo standoffs, rad screws not going through fans, (he must have been there a good hour screwing 2 inch screws just to hold the rad) no rad fans, psu wrong way, cpu socket cover, cpu attachment device?(and then didn't use it) no standoff on m.2, single channel ram, 3 screws holding the water block, he lucked out on gpu position, i personally think he should have used more thermal paste and just drizzled it over the mobo, rad fans magically appear, spreader allen key and tweezers (lol) not used at all. I missed basically everything coming out of his mouth because i was rofling so hard.

    Two thousand pound to spend on a computer, I wouldn't know what to do lol. I'm use to spending maybe one thousand Canadian and getting by squeezing every ounce of performance I can out of it. Great video, should see the pictures of the 'finished' build, can see he forgets a screw in both the radiator and the cooler on the cpu. If I remember right that chip, especially of over clocked runs hot naturally so with how bad he messed up the cooling it is gonna destroy it.

    • @MXDOUT
