- Welcome to our first episode of Jenkem Labs, the place where we investigate skateboarding's biggest mysteries (and do other fucked up shit too).
For our first episode, we tested whether more expensive bearings actually make a difference. Watch above to see which bearing from our selected models wins our speed test.

i skate with my cousins fidget spinners bearings
JAkob He fidget spins with your Swiss. He's a world champ.
So you skate with one wheel and one bearing?
@Beaver Gaming any bearings would usually do for skating
@@Fox8ball. No, his cousin has a touch of the tism and has a world class collection of fidget spinners and exotic dildos.
@@Fox8ball.the original design actually had 4 bearings per spinner. One in the middle for actual spinning and the others on the tips as weights.
It's worth mentioning that the FPS difference in the bearings, which by the way is only the average speed over a course which included both positive and negative accelerations, amounted to a total difference of 0.375 MPH between the Mini Logos and the Bones Swiss. If you divide the retail price by the velocity score of those bearings you get the cost per MPH ratio. The Mini Logos are $3.22/MPH and the Bones Swiss are $46.01/MPH. In other words, the Bones Swiss are 1327% more expensive per MPH than the Mini Logos. Just something to keep in mind when you're considering whether to buy $10 or $160 bearings.
I use my fidget spinner with bones Swiss ceramic bearings 😉😎
Custom spinner stores were actually doing that nonsense too
What about shake junt bearings?
Style_corrupter they are very fast trust me. I just recommend you stay away from rain or wet roads bcz they make that bird sounds ... but you need to try them. Now rocking bronsons they are at good price range and not that bad actually reminds me of spitfire berings abc3
The low rider shake junts are the shiznett I know I got em and I’m pretty good an shit
You did not get that this was a fun test .. did you? LOLz
these kooks don't know shake junt
Dan P damn. Really? Would’ve never thought someone would state the obvious on a RUclips comment. You’re such a great person.
Good idea, but when bearings are brand new they're still chock full of lube (also your mom) so they're slower now than they will be after riding them for twenty minutes. It's like your interviewing a bunch of toddlers for a CEO position; Admittedly hilarious, but un-wise
I actually think that would be a great idea
So this is what the singer for hoobastank is up to these days
csmacedoo I’m not a perfect perssssoooonnnn
Bruhhhh 😫😂
😭😭😭😭
Lmfao
He found a reason to change who he used to be, a reason to start over new, and the reason is you.
It’s good to know that I am not totally getting ripped off when I buy Bones Swiss bearings. Thanks Jenkem Labs!
Did you make sure to tighten the wheels the same amount on every test?
Harmonious Man ... dude, this was a fun test and nobody takes it serious.
Rolling the boards down a plank exactly 1 time is obviously not a representative test.
Oh my .. what is wrong with the youth in 2018
@@danp2941 You're taking that dudes comment rather seriously (commenting alone does the trick, belee dat) while claiming that the video is not to be taken seriously. My question is: Are you some kind of seriousness police?
@@mikkeljrgensen3850 they did it twice not once per bearing
@@danp2941 I’m a physicist and @Harmonious Man’s question is rather scholarly. So while you get a crappy set of bearings, Harmonious Man and I will get the fastest dayum bearings ever made. Why so serious my brotha dan?
@Hidden Aspects why so SeRIouS
Glad to see you guys went balls (bearings) deep in the research for this. Every pair of Bones Swiss I've had has lasted at least 2 years. Skating at least 7 hours a week.
So many questions I needed answering. Thank you Jenkem for your service to the skate world.
So you're telling me mini logo bearings are the best performing in terms of cost. Thanks for the info
If you dig online you can find killer deals on ceramics. I have a few different really nice ceramics I got for between 15-40 bucks. Oldboy ceramics are currently the best bearings I remember having. I've used everything from the cheapest bearings, made for cheap machining, to Swiss. I'm sure you can go even more expensive.
Thanks 👍🏿
Just broke my Bones ceramics and they are the quietest, faster and longest spinning bearings I've ever skated. They're not even the Swiss Ceramics. Spacers and washers are a must and metoil by Oust is way better than bones speed cream.
Mo Smith do you even have to push?
purp skurp na they have an internal combustion chamber
Ceramics are made for speed not durability.
Tom Queen yeah I see a lot of people saying that certain types of bearings don’t last long. I can guarantee 99% of them are doing high impact tricks
Michael Rossi I keep the shields on. After a month or so I clean them proper so most bearings last me a year. Only had these Reds Ceramics less than a month so I can't speak on longevity but so far they're better than the steel Swiss bones in every way
Bearings have a break-in period. Sometimes they digress from first use but usually they loosen up. This test is irrelevant imo. It was still kinda entertaining to watch though.
I remember when I got given some bone swiss and nearly did the splits pushing away on my board they were that fast haha.
Thanks for making this
Damn, I had no idea black panther still existed
I was thinking the same. I haven’t seen black panther bearings in the skate shops recently.
same as pig
how about KKK bearings ?
Black panther ceramics are way cheaper than bones and have lasted me quite some time, I would have liked to see those tested to see how they compare
I used to love black panther bearings. I thought they were owned by shortys which I haven’t seen in forever
Brought to you by Jenkem users like you, thank you.
10\10 would watch more Jenkem Labs
You’d need to calculate standard error and determine whether those results are statistically significant
Pretty much exactly how I predicted it to go. Reds have always been my bearing or choice, been riding them consistently for about ten years now. Only because I'm too poor and stingy to fork out for the Swiss. Haha.
Bronsons bearings bust so fast. Reds have never bailed on me.
My friend just got some bronsons... he's had them for atleast a month now and I've had my reds for almost 2 years and yes... the reds are faster they've hold up... but if you really wanna go fast and want bearings that last go for the bones ceramics those I've had for about a year now... I passed them on to my cruser board... man you should see me fly no joke
Andale sucks ass I've tried their best, trust me Bronsons are the best even their low end ones are amazing.
Yes Andale are shit.. most bearings out there are all Chinese made garbage with fancy dust shields, the only sure shot legit joints is all Bones bearings.
Didn't test Bronson generation 3 they're 100% better than g2
I've been skating since 6th grade, I'm 29 now, and I've literally never used any bearing but Black Panthers my entire life
The fact they put mini logo in this as well, makes my life so much better. I used to skate mini logos as a kid and they’re kinda right but honestly weren’t too bad. Or at least my kid brain thought they weren’t 🤷♂️
mini logos and bones reds are made in the same factory so they cant be that bad
1:01😂😂😂im dying bro
Yo they really look like a real scientist n shit!! This was very informative Jenkem make more of these! Sick!
At the Helm
Why would you buy any bearings that isn't Bones Reds?
because mine blew out within two weeks and got them before the opening of our new park. GREAT times with REDS...never again.
I always used Bronson G2's they aren't bad,but to be honest i once get some cheap ceramic no name bearrings and they were the best for over full 3 years
"We have no fuckin' clue." I love the honesty. It's rare these days.
Mini logos are pretty good man. For the cost. Got put onto them a couple years back when the bills were piling up. They fucking last. Pop off shields to clean them. Shields don’t bend in like with Reds. On my like 3rd pair. Funny enough, I ran bronsons because theyre cheap. thought theyd be an upgrade, blew one out within two weeks. Went back to Mini logo.
If you got cash go ahead and buy whatever brand you want before you go to your cute little skatepark in “Cali”
Mini logos are made by bones. Same factory as reds
If the bearings aren't under a load it doesn't matter about what ur saying. Because a load could complete stop some bearings.
It's not about "speed" its about resistance or rather the lack of.
You need to test them under weight. Some bearings roll better with 150lbs standing on the board.
You should've included Oust bearings. They are used by the best skaters and they really are the only bearings made for skating since bearings were originally made for machinery and not skateboards.
???
I've been waiting for something like this, thanks.
Where did you get them black panthers at
watching this before going to the skate shop lol
can't wait for the next ep
Between Bones Swiss and Mini Logo, do you really want to spend an extra $50-$60 to roll half a second faster?
It’s not about that bones Swiss last way longer
Dude that’s some like SGI super computer high res animation
hahahaha yo the mini logo joke had me weak! I'm grateful to posses swiss. you made them look an sound terrible hahaha man. I suppose they ride with a Walmart swagger. I had them for so long tho but my next choice I keep a secret. my skills are going up.
Was any hill in town unavailable for filming?
Where Independent Blacks and 7s??? Element bearings? Lucky Titanium???
Sam Ino shut the fuck up you poser
I've been using black panthers for about 12 years. Love them. Also use speed cream on them 😉
Bones Reds w/ Tri-Flow = *a year and a half of endurance.* It's ok if you lose the tri-flow's straw because you can get messy and just spray on the side and keep going. I'm coming from making Lucky 7's last me a year with degreasing then oiling them up again maintenance which is not worth the hassle.
I stick to classic skate wheels like Spitfires or Bones because I want to be able to power slide. I skate over pine cones like a boss, but that's the only time I do get hurt is tripping over them.
i have popped reds. they last me for 2,5 years now
Thank you ao much for the knowledge! 😊
Would be interesting to see a follow up review, with the same bearings, about the durability and the dust resistance. Then review their performance after some beating and dusty spots. I've skated so many bearings which drop their peak after a week of proper street skating. Pretty much the reason I went back to "non-skate" bearings (mostly NMB) few years ago.
NMB actually make Cuei Wheels (downhill company) bearings iirc
@@Dr_Footbrake good to know! I've seen these - they are shieldless?
@@jamesryan4325 the pictures on the Cuie site have no shields, but the actual bearings themselves 100% do have shields on them
I have a strange obsession with trying as many different bearings as I can get my hands on.. After trying more than I can count, Oust Moc 5 tech and Moc 9, OldBoy ceramics , and Bones Big Balls have been the best affordable bearings I've ever used. OldBoy Ceramics and Oust Moc 5 are worth the extra few dollars. If you want something cheap, Spend the extra few dollars and get the Bones Big Balls. I think they're better than Reds or Super Reds. If you really want bearings where you'll notice they're different spend the $45 and try the OldBoy Ceramics. I think they're better than the Reds ceramics for half the price
where are the jenkem users?ultimate high
This test doesnt make sense because bearings need to break in first
next should be what griptape is the grippiest
What bouth SJ?
Mini Logos should be the same as REDS, but tend to come over-lubed, which slows them down. After breaking them in, I would take them out and wipe off any excess lube that oozes out of the shields.
They are all 10 cent Chinese bearings
Cool but you gotta load them up with some weight and yes like people mention let them break in a little.
Sparrow Bearings
Thats not a good experiment.
Try to replicate the same results in a different experiment to validate them
Try to change more important variables and change the existing:
E.g. More weight on the board, longer distance for external validity
Better standardized the with e.g. less floor resistence, better ramp, realistic speed etc
Mini logos are pretty good man I bought a set couple years ago when the bills were piling up and I’d say they’re on par with Super Reds in terms of longevity. If you got cash go ahead and buy whatever brand you want before you go to your cute little skatepark in “Cali”
Mini logos are made in the same factory as reds
It's a moot point because nobody pushes as fast as Busenitz.
Curious, if I only plan to ride the skateboard, no tricks whatsoever, at the fastest, shall I consider Bone Swiss Ceramics? And what the biggest wheels I could get to support the fastest beating available.
I dunno I just be rocking whatever is cheap
the way you described the spacers was wrong. It's to keep them from breaking/wearing out from side to side pressure and weight and impact (as opposed to the vertical pressure from standing on the board, landing tricks etc.) Look up the Whale Talk bearings video
I like the spitty classics as a nice lil 420 tins included.
use mini logo's and spend more on wheels instead of expensive bearings now. And if you lubricate them when they dry up. Whe nthey dry up the bearing sounds allot louder.
They will last longer.
And jumps will make big impact on your bearings life also.
Oust moc bearings?
Yo shouts out to my dawg Christian ! Missin you down in Nama hope you're livin n lovin dawg !!
anybody ever heard of/ used OUST bearings?
No lie... I was about to buy some bronsons... but after getting on my homie's board no thank you... he just bought them too...
And about this test. Im pretty sure everybody ask themself a question 'why no legit test in Internet for so many years about bearings its not hard to do?' The answer will be then crap shitty expensive which broke aparts fast and hold speed slow brands will closed. Just look how many bearings brands now exist. Thats why no weight in test bearings no broken in for a something like month cruise city without tricks and no long perfect race track without weather conditions with smooth surface
Bonesswiss was my favorite it's worth the money they last forever
Minilogo bearings are just rebranded reds actually
what about shake junt or cortina
Bones swiss ceramics and bronson raws
Best Jenkem video! Lmaaaoooooo
That lead scientist has jokes ha ha
Wizard bearings must've been on sale after this video 😂
Should have also tried the G3s
The most brands you have got there to test are produced by SKF anyways... just sayin
Mini logo is made by bones... All the bearings are made in China. It all comes down to the amount of lube in each. You need to skate each one for 10 miles to break them in, then redo the test
don't know why they're called bearings, bears don't wear rings.
Mark Andrew Skates
this guy
Atem Fontem word
Mark Andrew Skates , thank you.
It is incredible what Youtomor said there
No it’s bear - Ings. They’re like little bears
I beg to differ. They sometimes wear rings around their neck while smoking cigarettes and riding tricycles. You should visit the circus some time; broaden your horizons and knowledge of the natural environments of known fauna.
Honestly, these all perform very similarly. The ABEC system matters in high precision, tight tolerance machinery, but barely at all when you loosen the bolt a quarter turn for a little wheel play.
When I was street skating super hard, I'd break bearings all the time, especially doing ledge tricks. If I had to buy bearings, I'd only replace the broken one and save the rest for later. I inherited a lot of used bearings from friends, even if they didn't roll, took the covers off with an old exacto blade and kept them in a mason jar full of brake fluid. I probably skated old NMB bearings or whatever the same size was at the hardware store for $1 each, and most of the time with maybe one bones swiss or some other name brand bearing in a wheel or two. They all broke at a similar rate. There's no reason to spend a premium on bearings if you break them all the time.
If you skate through a lot of sand or dust and your bearings stop rolling well, take the shields off, soak all the factory lubricant out with brake fluid or WD-40, clean them with dishwashing soap a time or two and gently work the crud out under a sink. Most of the time the issue is sand and dirt getting clogged up in the works. Afterwards, I prefer to use a dab of silicon lubricant that I get from the bike shop after they're dry. Spin them hard a few times, wipe off the excess and don't skate through puddles and piles of dirt unless you like cleaning your bearings ever week. If you skate really fast or bomb hills, bring a rag on the first day you ride newly cleaned bearings. The lubricant heats up and splatters with force and friction. Dust and dirt sticks to greasy surfaces and you undo all your hard work in one session. Your wheels will also look like emo mascara.
For example bones swiss or any quality ceramic other world of quality speed acceleration and smoothness
I love my super reds
You forgot to add quickies bearings
man 2 runs is now were near the amount need to get a good sample.
Bronsons are the best for price! They do seize but that's every bearing
Just ordered bones swiss
g3??? G4??? come on now
HARDLUCK TEAM GO FAST
I would rather buy 6x minilogos than 1x bones swiss. Same price and this differense is so miniscule you barely notice it or it wont hinder your ability to skate really anyway. Or 3x bronsons for the same price as 1x bones swiss 100%.
Dude you should’ve added rams dude those would of smoked the shit out of swiss
Reds are hands down the best after swiss. Theyre fast durable and ive never popped one.
I hate the spacers on bearings they’re such a pain in the ass to get back on the truck
I got a set of bones Swiss yesterday AHAHAHAHA... but now I'm looking at some Ceramics nooooowww... But they hella pricey.. is it worth it???
Miguel Barlaan no don’t be stupid get something relatively cheap, as long as they roll bearings don’t affect ur skating
If you buy anything aside from Bones Reds you're a goober.
The best two bearings in the world are oust Moc 9 and the rush all-weather ceramic. If you want the fastest in the world go for the oust if you want the most durable go for The Rush all weather ceramic
could you do a vid on sean pablo and ben kadow
like a day with idk some shit like that would be kool.
swiss been the shit since the 80s
Bronson big harry man
