- The last year of production for the Skyliner! It surely was an engineering feat for Ford, and remarkably the complicated mechanism was offered on a Ford!

The retractable hardtop is awesome! Never seen that before!
Hey, guys! An amazing achievement, one you wouldn't expect from a "low priced" car! Kudos to Ford engineers...they used a similar technology for retracting the Lincoln's convertible soft top into the rear compartment. This top was a clever way to amortize the cost of the mechanism by using it at Ford and Lincoln. Thanks! :) Jack
Jack, the condition of the car throughout is impeccable.
Hey, Audie! It sure is....it's great to see such an advanced car for the time in this beautiful condition! Thanks! :) Jack
My Uncle bought a new 59 Galaxie sedan, solid dark blue with that same interior. I remember the chrome plaques on the doors proudly announcing "Air Conditioning"!
Hey, Daniel! I'm glad your uncle had one of these....manufacturers were very eager to advertise the fact that this particular car had A/C! Much like they had script on cars advertising POWER GLIDE, FORD O MATIC, MERC O MATIC. Our '58 Rambler Cross Country sported a plaque that also announced A/C. Thanks! :) Jack
@@coolridesthat was one classy wagon!
Hey, Daniel! Ford thought of itself as the king of stationwagons....but entries like this from Chevrolet would not let that title go uncontested! Thanks! :) Jack
Nice paint
It sure is nice...a great example of the benefit of two tone color combinations! Thanks! :) Jack
Gorgeous and amazing. It's easy to see how Ford outsold Chevy that year. This one would be even better if it lost that Continental kit.
My hats off to both the engineering and styling departments on this one! No one else, not even Cadillac, was offering anything so complex! I agree concerning the Continental kit. Thanks! :) Jack
Very cool 🤙 I just acquired a 59 soft top convertible black/white
Nice!! Good luck with it! Thanks! :) Jack
cool❤❤
Hey, Michael! It really is cool....and that disappearing top is both complex and mechanically advanced! Thanks! :) Jack
I wonder how many people back in the day retracted the hardtop and forgot what they’d previously stored in the trunk?
Hey, Mick! Today it would be easy to detect outsized hazardous cargo....then, you had to have a good memory and/or get out of the car and perform a pre-flight inspection! I imagine the body shops saw a fair amount of work regarding this! Plus lots of contributions to the "swear jar"! :D Thanks! :D Jack
It is easy to see why you stopped to take a good look at this one. Super attractive example of a top of the line ‘59 Ford. Ford people undoubtedly enjoyed being the #1 seller again.
It's only fitting that Ford get recognition for this car, reflected in its sales! Can you imagine being part of the engineering team that was responsible for making that top work seamlessly! Thanks! :) Jack
