    Sir Sean Connery really is a symbol of my country. Okay, he wasn't exactly the nicest person around women, but he still took his job seriously and delivered some of the finest work ever. He makes me so proud to be Scottish that I watch a film of his every Halloween to celebrate him. Honestly, one of the greatest actors that Scotland has ever produced. 25th of August 1930 - 31st of October 2020

      Sean Connery set up the Scottish International Education Trust and Friends of Scotland. Every year, he hosted a benefit for the organization, with funds raised going to charities such as Wounded Warrior Project, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Erskine Hospital.

    When No Time To Die came out, "fans" were saying a woman can't be a 00 agent. Yet in Thunderball, which came out in the 60s, you can see the council of 00 agents and a woman is sitting with them.

    • @jamesbooty
      @jamesbooty 3 месяца назад

      I don't think they were saying a woman couldn't be a 00, but they were saying that a woman couldn't be James Bond... this was largely in response to click-bait headlines where they were claiming that Bond was going "woke" and would be played by a woman... which is a distortion of what actually occurred.

    • @silvas2308
      @silvas2308 Месяц назад

      Of course she can, just check how much previous "woman agent" movies got in box office to understand it's a risky move. On the other hand why try to use woman actor for Bond franchize if you can create own franchize with say agent Marple..?

    I'm of the opinion that Bond got cancer from the irradiated water in Dr. No's nuclear reactor, and that's why Connery was replaced by George Lazenby in 1969. Either that, cirrhosis of the liver, or lung cancer.
    As well Eunice Gayson playing Sylvia Trench in two films, other female supporting actors appeared in multiple roles in different films: Kerim Bey's secretary was played by Nadja Regin, who also appeared as the dancer Bonita (bathtub electrocution) in Goldfinger (1964). Martine Beswick played Zora the gypsy fighting girl in From Russia With Love, as well as Bond's co-worker Paula in Jamaica in Thunderball. Mai Ling played both Mei-Lei in Goldfinger and Bath Girl #2 in You Only Live Twice. The one woman who had the longest-lasting relationship with Bond was Lois Maxwell's Miss Moneypenny, appearing in a total of 25 Bond films and being protrayed by six actresses.
    You would be Miss MoneyJenny, and Thunderball is my favorite Connery Bond film, with You Only Live Twice a close second. Akiko Wakabayashi is my favorite Bond girl.

    In real life, there is a company called Rocket Lab who are building a rocket that is similar to the spacecraft in _You Only Live Twice_ . It's called the Neutron, and it will have kind of a "mouth" at the front that splits open. It will be a reusable rocket like SpaceX's Falcon 9, and the "petals" of the "mouth" take the place of aerodynamic fairings that are normally jettisoned. When the Neutron has expended its fuel, its "mouth" will open to release the internal second stage, and the main rocket will land to be reused again. It looks like life imitating art to me.

    There is a rocket-powered gun in real life called the Gyrojet. It never took off, and examples are rare collector's items today. In fact, the rocket gun in _You Only Live Twice_ looks exactly like it, and probably really is a Gyrojet. The rocket-powered ammo looks identical, as well, so that must be it. The point is to produce little if any recoil, which can help when shooting under the condition of weightlessness.

Such large electromagnets are used in junkyards all the time. I'm not sure whether a helicopter can readily be equipped with such a magnet, but at the very least it is certainly possible to do it (might need an upgraded electrical generator).

    Connery’s best performances were in “Dr No,” “From Russia With Love,” and “Never Say Never Again.” (His personal favourite was “From Russia With Love.”)
    For “Never Say Never Again,” he had final say in the script and casting. The title was the idea of Connery’s wife Micheline. She gently ribbed him about his earlier decision to NEVER play Bond again. (Her name is in the end credits.) The result was far superior to “Thunderball.”
    Your reactions, Jen, as always, are charming and funny.

    That's an interesting telescope. It looks like a disguised 8" Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with a 90-degree diagonal mirror. A configuration like this is usually used for astronomy rather than terrestrial use. I wonder why this choice was made.

    Having watched Goldfinger, you should watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (also written by Ian Flemming). Although a family movie, it's spot the James Bond connections.

    9:50 - JACK LORD portrays CIA Agent Felix Leiter. Jack Lord is known primarily for portraying police detective Steve McGarrett in the popular1960s TV series, 'Hawaii 5-0'. His catchphrase (used at the end of every episode) was 'Book him, Danno'.'' Book em, Danno' or 'Book him, Danno. Murder One.

    1:10:36 - AURIC GOLDFINGER - Portrayed by Gert Frobe who spoke little English, said his lines phonetically, but was too slow and therefore had to be entirely redubbed. He had to double the speed of his performance to get the right tempo. The name Auric contains AU, the chemical symbol for gold.

    Cars are mostly empty space, so given sufficient force, it is easy to crush them down into a much smaller cube of steel.

    FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE FACTS - Red Grant (Robert Shaw) is probably best known as the cranky fisherman Quint from the film "Jaws". The SPECTRE guy Morzent (Walter Gotell) seen during the Red Grant training session would later be recast in future James Bond films as the recurring Russian character General Gogol. The James Bond films were known for showing the title of the next film after the mid/end credits. It would say "James Bond will return in ..........." on the screen, Jen.😉

    In this context, "piqued" means irritated. In other contexts, it can mean stimulated, as in "That piqued my curiosity."
