    NOTE: This is not my current city but simply a great idea for getting started! Which modulars do you have? Leave a comment? Going custom, leave a comment!

    The mils plate system looks good but it may be a bit expensive for me...

    • @LittleBinsandBricks
      @LittleBinsandBricks  3 года назад

      There is an added cost but it's not as high as you think especially if you're going to grow slowly. I do have a cost breakdown in one of my MILS videos.

    Nice vlog Sarah and I think your right start with a table and concentrate on that first!! Us lot are like let’s by every Lego set released then figure it out 😂😂

    • @LittleBinsandBricks
      @LittleBinsandBricks  3 года назад

      So true! It's harder than it looks too especially as I know you're like me and will have 20 modulars in a month and then be like what do I do now!

      Awesome, glad to hear. It’s worth giving some thought to a city before getting started as it can get overwhelming fast.

    Great tips! I knew I wanted a city I never thought about a theme.

    I have to admit I almost stumbled into mine about 6 months ago while becoming a Lego investor. I did define what I wanted in my city right away knowing my space was limited so that helped. So far my entire city consists of used sets so that helps justify the cost and is keeping within my size/space limits.

      Fantastic, sounds like you had a plan! Used is an awesome way to go as you can get some more unique pieces that way!

    Holy Cow! Sarah, have you considered a theme? No disrespect, but a bunch of modulars together does not a city make. I don't know how long you have been building but a large part of my beginnings were research. For example, I wanted an Oregon-style (Or Maine) seaside village. I built smaller (there are no skyscrapers) as I'd find in Virginia Beach, San Diego, etc. Housing and businesses are not built side by side in a seaside town. The businesses are different - restaurants, small galleries, fishing shacks, boat piers, a grocery store (you get the idea). As for size, you could diagram what you want and begin laying it out with a sense of uniqueness. Then I buy strategically: not everything, not all modulars, not all Lego. It seems like you're unhappy with things the way they are - so as you said, you can make it for yourself. Step out, step up, and happy building.

      Maybe, I wasn't as clear as I had hoped to be. The #1 thing I mentioned was finding your why or theme? Then I just wanted to show people the modulars available in 2021. This is not my new city or the beginning of my city just something for those starting out to think about.

    My city is currently in sealed boxes 😂. It’s an ongoing joke a have a ever growing backlog but will get round to building it all soon (ish). I have every modular apart from Cafe Corner and the Green Grocer. I’m looking at either building a line of streets on different level shelves, or maybe a similar layout to your last city with the facing buildings forming a double sided street. I like what you’ve said today and is very useful for someone not sure or maybe who feels pressured into going down a certain route 👍

    • @LittleBinsandBricks
      @LittleBinsandBricks  3 года назад +1

      Awesome Simon, there’s no rush right. I really like the line of streets on shelves myself almost better then a model city layout. There are so many ways to go with it!

      When you get older (like me) you have to take things slower and besides I’m looking to retire in a few short years so will need plenty to build 😀

    Should be noted that MOST alternative builds use only the same pieces as the original set, but there are SOME Alt builds that use additional pieces. Its just something to be aware of when you're shopping for alternative builds. It should also say somewhere on the page for the alt build whether or not you need pieces that arent in the box. Again, just something to be aware of.
