  • Indie Alaska visited the SeaLife Center in #Seward, Alaska where they're caring for Tyonek, the first rehabilitated #beluga calf from the Cook Inlet. He was found in September 2017, stranded on a beach with no other beluga whales in sight. They brought him to the #SeaLifeCenter where he has been receiving 24/7 care ever since. Cook Inlet belugas are one of eight endangered species that NOAA Fisheries has identified under the Species in the Spotlight initiative. This is important for scientists and marine biologists who now have a rare opportunity to study the species up close.

    Awwwwwwwwwww!!
    Teeny tiny Tyonek…
    A bit late to the party, but I cried so hard when I heard his story - sobbed into my blanket. Poor little precious darling baby beluga! OH MY HEART!! 😭😭😭
    Kudos to ASLC for saving him!!

    I would CRY tears of joy, if I could see them that close, especially a baby. They’re the least “negative” marine mammal, if that makes sense. Lol. Not saying they can’t protect themselves… All cetaceans can be aggressive when necessary, of course, but belugas genuinely seem to have a zest for life and they seemingly want to know, “are you as fun and passionate as I am? Who are you? I like you!”

    What he lost can’t be replaced-that‘s the reality of being a living organism in a complex world. You win. You lose. Nature is vast and often indifferent. But our species can intervene. Tyonek will receive the finest veterinarian care in the world for the rest of his life at SeaWorld. He will live without threat of starvation or predators or propellers, and will have opportunities for enriching social and cognitive experiences as good or better than his wild counterparts. Is this where Tyonek should be in a perfect world? I don’t any of us would be here if the world was perfect. Tyonek, like the rest of us, can only play the hand he’s dealt by nature and fortune.

    Truly...truly brokenhearted you gave him to Sea World to swim with tourists. Unreal . Next time suggest you call NATIONAL NEWS NETWORKS to get public outcry over Federal Governments decision to send baby whale to SEA WORLD in San Antonio , Texas , of all places , suitable for a cold water whale. And to do " circus buddy swims " with paying tourist , is obscene. You could have raised awareness of his plight , but you didn't. What a horrible life for such an intelligent animal.

    • @FeistyFins
      @FeistyFins 4 года назад +3

      Tyonek was not just given to SeaWorld to swim with tourists. National oceanographic atmosphere and administration made the final decision as to what was in his best interest. he is with a social group of beluga whales growing up with two others the same age as he is and he is with other whales of his species. what you were calling circus Trix are not circustrix are actually behaviors if you actually try and compare them to what you see in the wild just because you hear about things about SeaWorld doesn't mean it is bad. but it's either SeaWorld or death for him because he doesn't have survival skills he has no wild pod to take him in and usually when a whale is by itself and has no place to go it's going to be euthanized

      Hi Lost Wanderer! We looked for a recent update on Tyonek and found this article from a few months ago. He was transferred to SeaWorld in San Antonio, Tx and is still receiving continual care. Thanks for your concern about Tyonek!
