Because we are still in the batch that is composed of a collection of mini-episodes, the episodes flow in the manner that they do. The focused plot will start after the next episode.
Logan in this episode is voiced by Steve Blum who also voices the character in the short lived series “Wolverine and the x men” which shares the same creator in Christopher Yost. Both shows are considered to be set in the same universe.
This show is canon to Spectacular Spider-Man too. As Josh Keaton was intended as the voice for Spider-Man; in a certain episode. But, it didn't pan out. The creator have indicated though, that this takes place in the same universe. Also, on a similar note, the Wolverine VS Hulk Animated takes place before Wolverine and the X-Men. As they encounter each other a second time in Wolverine and the X-Men. Which lines up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes, as the time when Hulk is away.
Ya, around this time Marvel wanted "official voice actors" for all their characters, meaning that they'd have the same actor every appearance. That's why the whole cast also do the voices in Marvel vs Capcom 3.
I'm kinda pissed at that Christopher Yost would come to the same level as Btas, JL/JLU, and etc. Yet MCU screwed those chances of giving his work so little chances.
Bucky being voiced by Scott Menville, who voiced Robin in Teen Titans, is amazing casting, since Bucky was made to replicate the sidekick trend of the 1940s
Captain America was originally supposed to fight the Nazis in the World War 2 flashbacks, but Executive Meddling meant that the creators could have either realistic firearms or Nazis, but not both. They went with the firearms.
That's kind of interesting, considering the MCU movie went with neither. It's been a while since I've seen it, but as far as I remember there were a lot of two-armed Hydra salutes and anachronistic weapons (which they explained with the tesseract, but it still equaled lazer guns).
@@ketchup016 If I remember correctly Cap and the Commandos focused solely on Hydra who I think separated from Nazi Germany. They also did use regular firearms (the commandos I mean), Cap using a handgun while holding his shield is a memorable scene for some people because it was one of the few times he used a firearm, but they all eventually used the laser guns because why wouldn't you switch to the better tech to fight the advanced tech?
Hilarious that they manage to establish Kang in about 5 minutes of screen time and are pretty much ready to go from there. Imagine that. This came out like half a decade after the Winter Soldier storyline in the comics by Ed Brubaker, kinda reinvented what Bucky was during the war, they posited that he was the commando side of the duo who could do stuff Captain America wouldn't or shouldn't be seen doing. Like sneaking into an enemy camp and cutting a bunch of throats, that kinda thing. They can't do that in the cartoon but they show him having infiltrated the castle and setting stuff up for the attack.
It’s impressive how they use certain villains and such to set up stuff WAY down the line… The reason that Cap is responsible for Kang’s timeline being erased, doesn’t get revealed for quite a while. So they both introduce a villain with his own motivations that are human, but it’s connected to the greater scope of the EMH setting.
@brettthebest3978 I wasn't even born either I actually never watched an X-Men cartoon growing up, but I watched all of them a few years ago and I think Cal is the best Wolvie Not that Blum is bad, he's great too, but I think Dodd is a better comparison to Conroy
I wouldn’t say Dodds a better comparison at all, Blum plays the character in just about every thing he can like Kevin did while Dodd only played that cartoon wolverine
The episodes move around the way that they do because we are still in the batch that we’re made up of combined mini-episodes. After the next episode, the focused storyline will begin.
I think they may have gotten to a point where they're TOO afraid of potential spoilers. They barely even theorized about Kang because Aaron wasn't 100% sure who it was and they didn't want to spoil it. Discussions are so short nowadays because of stuff like that. Just theorize!
you know before Xmen 97 came out, decided to rewatch the old episodes, some I even missed back then and turns out Logan was remembering how he once helped Captain America against the Red Skull in France.
Lots of connections being established: Bucky, Fury, Hydra, and our mystery time traveler. Good to show Cap in his element before arriving in the 21st century.
One of my favorite aspects about this show is how well is showcases and pay respects to each Avenger's different core of the Marvel universe. Thor and Captain America especially, we get to see so many of their supporting characters and villains, and they're all portrayed accurately, it really does feel like one giant love letter.
The girl Kang tries to save at the end is Ravonna Renslayer, who also appeared in the Loki Series, she was going to be a key figure in the MCU Kang stories but with the downfall of Jonathan Majors, and the rise of RDJ Doom, perhaps she was dropped on a bus, so sad.
The original writers wanted to put Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the same continuity as Wolverine and the X-Men. Chris Yost once wrote in one of Marvel's live blogs that they take place in the same universe, but later said that the swift cancellation of Wolverine and the X-Men ultimately put a damper on these hopes. Also Joshua Fine revealed to have considered making some crossovers between those two shows (before the cancellation of Wolverine and the X-Men) during the 1st season, like an episode in which Wolverine would have gone on a SHIELD mission with Hawkeye and Black Widow, another in which Beast would have teamed up with Ant-Man (although the only conection that could have been done was a reference of the Mutant Response Division by Nick Fury after Whirlwind being defeated by Wasp). Then Joshua Fine in a forum stated that both shows would have broken continuity on the season 3 of AEMH. Although, the Marvel official appendix lists both series in a same universe of the Marvel Multiverse, being Earth-8096, and since then the Fandom call both series as part of the "Yostverse".
Until Spectacular Spider-Man comes back (which I unfortunately doubt it will because of rights issues and competition with Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), I believe that SSM, AEMH and WatX are all in the same universe regardless of what Greg Weisman might say about that.
@@SecretMagicianI remember hearing that Josh Keaton (voice of Spider-Man in SSM) recorded the dialogue for Spider-Man in EMH but then it was re-recorded by Drake Bell (voice of Spider-Man in Ultimate Spider-Man)
@joevictor53 same thing with Daran Norris (Spectacular Spider-Man's J. Jonah Jameson). Daran does voice a police officer in that episode so it's very possible his audio also got dubbed over with J.K. Simmons. Obviously, he was great, but he talked slower in comparison to the Raimiverse and the MCU versions who were still quicklipped, just like Spectacular Spider-Man's was.
I'm glad Calvin noticed the colors being muted when there were flashes. That's a problem with the show on Disney Plus specifically. I loved the little cameo of Logan. I never knew that until I was rewatching the series later and went, "Oh my god, that's a great little detail!"
A small thing in this episode, in the comics Cap normally uses the shield on his left arm, using his right arm to throw and catch it, while in this show he uses the shield on his right arm, it's a small thing that left me with a weird deeling at first XD
One of the amazing things about this show is how faithful it is to the comics. Unlike the MCU (which took a lot of liberties that I mostly agree with), everytime you assume this show is going to go the comic route, thats exactly what happens. It's great seeing so many comic stories put on screen.
And how are the Disney XD shows like Avengers Assemble inferior to this one? Can I pick your brain for this? I can't put into words of how Avengers Assemble is very inferior
@@yudhazacharias9377 I like Assemble but for different reasons. This is higher art to me because of the writing. It has a vision and a very connected story. It is not a bunch of disparate stories told in a more anthologist way, even if it has some of those episodes as well. Assemble is just fun and carefree. I would make the same comparison between Spectacular Spider-man and Ultimate as well.
Is this the only adaptation (since the 60s at least) to feature the first Baron Zemo? That is, Heinrich instead of his son Helmut… Most to my knowledge have him already deceased (if he even exists, see the MCU) and use his successor; to be fair his son is the more prominent and is easier to implement. But EMH actually used aspects of Helmut including a more combat-worthy suit and the swordsmanship ability.
Interesting how Ravonna Renslayer is portrayed as a brown/black character in this version years before she was casted in the Loki Show. Ha! Talk about foreshadow.
Captain americas origin in the comics is being frozen in the iceberg. Though he was chasing zemo and not red skull but tge villain isnt as important. The lost in time thing is metaphorical and a theme. Regardless of when he is unfrozen steve, and other captain americas like Peggy, are adjusting to the current era, thus out of time. Winter soldier, tge movie, for example is steve struggling to adjust to modern spy techniques and morality. As for fury, the one who fought in ww2 and was head of shield is the og white fury in the comics. He takes the infinity formula to stay alive and youngish looking. I believe they keep this shows furys dynamic of respecting cap for the ww2 things, a comic dynamic so Jack might be his dad to make it work. As for logan, he did serve in ww2 and usually at least did a couple missions with captain America. Weapon x came later so no metal claws yet. He does have his healing factor though. If one has a ww2 flashback its common for the other to appear. Like with fury, wolverine and steve are actually good friends who respect each other despite of their differing methods because of tgeir shared wartime experience. Actually steve gets this kind of respect a lot. Even punisher, probably from being a vet, respects cap.
Funny that this episode predicted what would happen in First Avenger. Specifically how Red Skull would be looking for weapons from the other Nine Realms.
I think it was probably intentional, they obviously wanted to sort of have the series resemble the MCU a little bit hence with Tony being like RDJ in this.
