Hang in there! Everything still looks beautiful. Remember how long we went without rain last year? It’s always something!

You are so much nicer to your grasshoppers than I am. I can’t cut them in half with my clippers like some people do but I can give them a good whack.

Oh hang in there Christine! One game changer for me this year on staking was buying a metal fence post driver and using it to put in pine grade stakes that I get from Home Depot in the lumber area. They come in 12 packs in various lengths. Put those in with the fence post driver and they don’t move - perfect for netting to stay tight. They aren’t really tall. I bet it would work on those green plastic coated ones too.

I am so done with this season!! Glad most of your dahlias are okay. Lovely bouquets ❤
Youll need to stand your sunflowers up or theyll get crooked.

It has been a rough year for me as well. Late June & most of July we didn’t get hardly any rain & very hot and then for the last 2 weeks it has rained almost every day. Your garden looks very similar to mine after a storm last night. Several varieties were blown over especially the self seeded sunflowers. Maybe next year neither of us will be tempted to let them grow! 🌻 😂

I say I’m not growing them every year! Haha

It's a rough season all over I think. Cold start, now dry and hot. My dahlias were also taking a nap from a huge wind storm, but they seem to be recovering fine. Fingers crossed for the rest of the season, your bouquets are lovely ❤

Have you considered dividing the rudbeckia you want more of? You may have a better chance of building your stock that way. I’m not super well versed on if seed will come back true but dividing certainly will.

That's a bummer about the storms. I can imagine how much extra work that adds to the existing workload. The harvested flowers look great!

So sorry you had a storm. My sunflowers blew down, I stood them up and corralled staked them and they were fine.

This is a lesson in survival and doing well with in spite of adverse circumstances. Your bouquets are gorgeous. Also, I love craspedia or 'Billy Buttons'. My daughter gave me an arrangement last year with a lot of Billy Buttons last year. They were the only flowers in the arrangement that I could save. Now they are their own little arrangement in my office, and I love it.

The weather here in Washington State has been very scary this year. Rain, then high winds & painfully harsh sun. I am concerned about what kind of winter we need to prepare for. Thank you for sharing, colorful, beautiful bouquets !

Lucky your high tunnel was unharmed! We had rain too the past couple of days (Pacific Northwest). Fortunately, the wind was not too bad, but the weight of the rain on the plants did flatten some gladiolus and phlox, despite netting and staking.

I’m growing the Sahara too but I find that it doesn’t last in the vase. Maybe just one day and it starts looking bad. The stems are very strong but I’m disappointed that the flower doesn’t last.

I love the mini bouquets! I’ve been using my short stem flowers in pint mason jars, but they don’t seem to sell very well at my farmers market. I might try some mini bouquets and see if my customers like them better than the mason jars. Do you use a smaller paper to wrap them, or the same size as your regular bouquets?

    • @SunshineFlora
      @SunshineFlora  Месяц назад

I cut the paper into a smaller square and wrap them the same

Your bouquets always look wonderful. I grow cut flowers in three 4'x8' beds at our community garden for myself and to share with friends and family. Can you tell me which kind of Mountain Mint you grow and about how much each plant produces? I'm so interested in growing this plant. Thank you.

@@SunshineFlora Thank you. The reason I asked was because I'm coming across different varieties. Mountain Mint Pycnanthemum pilosum (which was from Johnny's), Pycnanthemum muticum and Pycnanthemum virginianum. I need a good filler. I might have to grow all three. 😀
