I can see the Commandery preference: they can train batches of cav, and if they are about to get destroyed, you can pop your garrisoned vils out of another one, instead of having to force them to run for their lives
Advance of commendaries over regular outposts when it comes to villagers is fact using them is much safer. If overwhelming opponets force comes down and starts to siege the Commandery (which can often happen, especially when forced to spread villagers out post 15-20min), one just uses the big button to teleport vils to much more safers commandery. Othervise, vils are good as dead with normal outpost. (+, being stables)
@@PW-zs2yx Cassador goon, into Firethrowers goon also works, I always focus on getting some fort down to support it. Or Cassasdor Hospitaller to soak up damage, the Cassadores can tank a falk shot with enough hospitallers around.
Malta seems a hard match for Aztecs since their strengths are mainly artillery which is hard to deal without prepared army of arrow knights mixed with coyote runners. Malta represents great counters to them with xbows/pikes combo. Aztecs could fight a bit longer but besides falconets there was a fixed gun incoming which could be game over either way. Very classic build order from Kevin and pretty nice build order by Grogu. Its just sad that Aztecs can't really fight with them mid to late game.
Aztec didnt have Aztec Mining in his deck, with that, all the slingers he built would have cost coin and his eco would be so much better. Aztecs eco in third age and onwards is already not great, not including Aztec mining and potentially Agrarian Ways just means you lose by having worse eco, just like in this game. Also 8 vills/8 vills with upgrade are decent in my opinion
Honestly, i feel military-wise aztec could have decimated malta, only thing aztec needed to do was mass coyote and maybe coyote/otontin, and some AK for falcs later on... I think coyotes are so underrated, coyotes are better than average cav, and honestly they are imo a top cav unit. Coyotes annihilate their main and strongest unit: crossbow, they also soft counter hussars (yes, they do, thats why i think they are underrated), and almost tie with pikes (yes, almost tie), thats not only because they are an above average cav unit, but also they receive about 25% less damage from anticav, so that gives them 33% more hp against anticav, so basically a coyote can 1v1 tie with a pike, although coyote cost more, but is a very good trade for a cav unit. So with some otontin, wich also, ties with xbows, and decimate pikes, would have been gg for malta...
I do seriously think the aztec big button nerf is huge. Just think of how many fights the explorer was present for and how many cheap units were dying for malta. that XP coudlve pushed grogu over the edge in a pretty close game and then maybe make more tempo
The devs have really been trying to make the Warchief civs less bland with things like Calmecac. If they do it enough, the game 🎮 will finally be rid of their boring-ness problem.

aztec is a really fun civ but i am always struggling with how much less eco in the long run they have, just look at the end of this game to see the difference!
I agree with this so much, i only play aztecs and if you cant close out a game earlier its safe to say you wont see till late, it seems most other civs just have stronger eco age 3 sadly. It wouldve been great to see this aztec come out on top especially after that clean up mid game 15:20
The main weakness of aztec always has been their coin eco. So for late game in this case it would be almost crucial to have the 40 % gather rate mining card in the deck, which he didn't. As well as 8 villagers in age III. These two cards would higher the chances significantly, yet are still not a guarantee to win.
@@jakobfaltermeier6113 The aztecs did a shitton of mistakes and could still continue to pay up to 30m. In a similar configuration. the game would have ended way before with any other civ. - No map control - rushed without reaction until late - poor economic management.

Warrior Priests are basically 2 vills, but they dont count towards the res gathered

I hate warrior spam, it's the dumbest town defense form in the game and should be replaced with levies or a big button.
