- Hey everyone!
I did another pallet shed! The only items purchased for this project were the asphalt felt and the latch for the door. Everything else was salvaged or pallets. I did have screws and pin nails on hand from another project so I am not counting those in the price, but there are other ways to get those if you still want to keep your cost low. I have also reused the nails from the pallets before which is another cost free option, it just takes more time!

That's awesome. I would put a drip edge up on the bottom and side edges of the roof though to prevent the roof wood from rotting on the edge.
I have a huge 10x12 heavy duty tarp over the top. We get rain and snow in the winter. Thanks for the tip
I keep seeing people build shed walls by stacking pallets on edge. Just screwing them together edge to edge doesn’t make a roof bearing wall. Would you stack layers of 2x’s on edge and expect them to stay put? Won’t take much to make them buckle like snow piling up against it or leaning junk up there inside or out. Don’t get me started on racking. If they put a through stud between every stacked pair it would stand a lot longer. Of course if you doubled the number of studs it took to do that and added some top and bottom plates you could make a real wall.
I'm in the process of making a shed from pallets. Only mine is not 2 pallets high. I tried removing the nails but they were way too rust, so I used wood screws for my project.
I'm 70 yrs old, so it's taking me a lot longer to do it, since I'm doing it by myself. I'm using paneling for the outside and will paint it. I'm using a big tarp to cover the roof over the plywood.
Next time, I will go 2 pallets inside of 1 for the walls. Thanks...
excellent work. I work with pallets sometimes too.Removing individual boards without splitting them is hard sometimes. The pallets I get have spiral nails in them..... Unless ya have all the other materials already (nails. screws, plywood,tar paper), ,I bet it costs more than $40. ... I try to re-purpose those things too, or buy damaged goods like plywood.
Yes in the description I mention that without having some materials on hand it will cost more but that was what it cost me personally.
I reclaim Used wood from pallets and a recycling center for old bed mattress box springs. a sawzall on the side of the pallet to just cut the nails can help prevent splits. It takes a few minutes though to get the blade in. Then just cut the middle as you go down the pallet removing the wood. There's a special air tool to move the nails quickly too. Good luck.

I like the way you prepped and structured the roof. So much easier to get the cripples up by anchoring them to the rafter than putting them all up and anchoring the rafter to them. Good tip for a shorty like me. Thx
You started by spending some time taking about how u were going to clear the area etc. which was fine. But u then said nothing about how u were connecting the pallets together, how u were actually building the shed. I would have preferred it was the other way round. Still, great looking shed!!🙂👍
I think i would have spent $4 more for one more level of bricks off the ground to prevent any rot and have air flow under it
So far so good, but that's the beauty of the design, it can always be improved upon.

Around 80 in total. But the pallets I have access to can be more medium to small pallets

Thanks for sharing your DIY Shed Project - WOW! I have thought about the idea of building a DIY Pallet Shed, but I can never find clean useful pallets. I have a very limited toolbox and I am a amateur DIY Carpenter/Electrician/Landscaper/Mason/Mechanic etc.,
You should paint it so that it lasts longer. Great job on sustainability!
loved this build, cept you pushed too close to house. Mould and garden debris rot will git that siding and infiltrate your house. I say jack it up and drag it at least a rakes width away. Best of luck to you, again, great build.
I have been looking at building a Lean tube for my boat. Since my wife works at auto parts store and getting trucks each week I can get pallets for free. I figured that would be a good boat house

Same here. The camera is still doing okay but there is definitely some issues with scratches on the lens, I'll keep using it for as long as I can though because this same model is going for even more than when I bought it two years ago now.
Just so you know the trapping that is used as lumber covers. Is a lot better than what you can buy. And as long as it's not the lumber covers with paper on the insides. They will in most cases last more then 3 times longer than what you can buy!!

Great video. I can certainly say that the suspence was certainly worth it. The scooter shed looks superb. I really like the various weathered boards used on the outside. It gives the shed a rustic look. Nice little touch with the ramp. Certainly makes moving your scooters in and out easier.
I have a question about the pallet structure of the walls. I noticed you don't over lap each layer of pallets like you'd get with a brick house. Is it for ease or would the time it take to overlap the pallets would not pay off that much in terms of rigidity?

I did the pallets that way for ease as well as a flush connection that is pretty strong. It's easier to mount them together and less wasted material that way. It is fairly rigid and the first shed I did like this as well as the workshop haven't seen any structural issues so far in either of them. We have been having lots of high winds and rain this year, a lot of it while this shed was still in construction and it didn't budge a bit.

might consider waterproofing the wood especially near the ground any part touching the ground will rot faster , oil based paint or stain will help just to make it last longer and you probably need to keep the gaps for air flow just cover with screen or something to keep mice and critters out
So far waterproofing the wood hasn't been an issue since the asphalt paper creates a water barier for the inside, and the wood is heat treated so it takes quite a few years for it to rot or degrad to the point of needing replaced. It definitely does let in some critters but spiders and other things make it into our house as well so I think that would happen regardless of the seals haha.

I have plans for gutters on my workshop, my house, and probably this shed as well! Just waiting on saving up some money first. Gutters cost a lot more then I was thinking they would sadly.
@@DoubleBitsWorkshop have you considered a reclaim shop like habitat for humanity restore? Sometimes you find great stuff there. Also advertising need on Facebook or in the newspaper.

About how many pallets did you use, i would have to make it 2foot longer as my triumph america is 8ft long.

Ah! It's the count for the additional boards used for the face of the sides and door! I didn't film myself tearing down every pallet. :-)
How many pallets do you estimate you used in total for the entire project?
A rough estimate for the size pallets I had access to... From what I'm seeing for the boards I had on hand plus the pallets I took apart in the video... Around 80 full pallets. Which is a lot better then the 120+ I used to make my shop! And I had some barn wood for my beams and trusses on my shop!
Is it strong wall with out a pole to hold it?
It is very sturdy

Did you use staples and a Brad nailer?
Brad nailer for the paper and long Brad nail/some screws for the outer layer and screws for the main construction

Why is it necessary to show clean upwork and commentate on it?
10x more work dong it this way, OK if you have the time and effort, most don't.
This is definitely an option for someone who has time but not a lot of money.
I'm use my pallets laying around in the backyard to build a shed 👍
