Hitler's Terrifying Rolling Sniper Catches Churchill Tanks by Surprise

  • On July 30, 1944, in Normandy, a unit of the 6th Guards Tank Brigade, equipped with Churchill tanks, became isolated from their infantry.
Developed for even the most rugged of terrains, these tanks had already proved their resilience time and time again from Dieppe to North Africa and Italy.
They moved through the dense countryside, lone and vulnerable, unaware the newest tracked weapon of the German Army lay in wait.
Three Jagdpanthers, each armed with a formidable 88-mm gun, were on the prowl. Developed just in time for the Normandy operations, these menacing machines had received the Fuhrer's personal seal of approval.
Hidden, the Jagdpanthers prepared to ambush the Churchill tanks, ready to prove that while the invasion of northern France was well underway, Germany would not back down just yet.
With this, the landscape near St. Martin de Bois witnessed the most concentrated infantry tank action in the entire war.

Wht do you put such misleading, click bait headlines on your posts? The jagdpanthers had no effect on the D-Day invasion. Their first combat against the Westerm Allies took place over 6 weeks after the invasion took place. Also it wasn't a tank, but rather a tank destroyer. You got these facts correct in your video, but you almost ruined it with a headline which was doubly wrong.

By the war's end, the late model Churchill Mk VII had exceptional amounts of armour - considerably more than the German Tiger tank. However, it is acknowledged the firepower weakness was never fully addressed. Escape hatches were incorporated into the design of the panniers allowing the crew to exit quickly in the event of an emergency - for crew survivability, superb armour protection and the ability to cross terrain obstacles that most other tanks of its era could not surely makes it a rather outstanding tank?

By the time of Cobra the British had all but destroyed Rommel's Army Group West, so in realty the US forces did not face many German tanks in Normandy. The British faced both JagdPanthers and Tiger II though in small numbers, most were destroyed by 17 Pounder guns, or like these Jagdpanthers were destroyed by their crew's, as damaged tanks could not be recovered. The first Tiger II tanks were destroyed by the British a few days later.

A chaotic collection of irrelevant, and often misleading videos. What isn't made clear is that the Jagdpanther was armed with the more powerful 88mm L71, rather than the Tiger 1's 88mm L56, the Churchill 7's 152mm of frontal armour could resist the 88mm L56 above close range. The Jagdpanthers should have been used as long range ambush vehicles, shooting from concealed positions, so the Churchill's infantry support was irrelevant. The Panther was originally designed to be a 30+ ton tank, the final Panther was a 46+ ton tank and was never reliable.

That depends on what you judge to be the area of 'Kursk'. On square mileage the Normandy front was the greatest concentration of tanks in WW2. On D-Day alone over 1500 tanks were landed and by July 6 there were 5,000 Allied tanks in a salient 70 miles by 15. You could fit the entire Normandy battlefield area (for July) into the Kursk bulge about 10 times.
