Great game, but i could not get into it anymore, i feel i am 80% of the time i am eating and drinking. the 15% is fighting the same shark. When you kill you have a minute to dive for stuff before another one spawns. And hopefully when you do kill the shark you are lucky you have enough food/drinks left to make the dive.
What difficulty were you playing on?
this is why I refunded after an hour and a half. tools wore out in no time too.
I'd just pick easy for chill gameplay without spam eating and drinking. The game is piss easy on any difficulty anyway, not counting ridiculous hunger/thirst.
This was my experience too. The game became a chore instead of chill
Why can't developers add something where if you don't have atleasr three meals for the day, you get deficits the next day instead of a primitive bar that goes down. Seems like it doesn't work, either eating too less or too often
I feel all survival games need to add a food/drink slider. Nothing kills a survival game for me faster than having to eat an entire cow every few hours or I starve to death.
For this game I have the same problem in that I am forced to play on easy mode so the food/drink requirements dont ruin the game for me. It is an otherwise enjoyable game as you said though.
I'm playing it solo on normal and I hate it so much. They made the hunger/thirst as the main stress factor instead of an extra factor
Well it could be a 3 meal system where if you don't achieve at least three you'll have deficits each day until you have a day of eating, this could be a can of soup even
yea it's dumb, in games like this you have to eat yourself to be obese to just survive. It's one of the main reasons i hate games like this, it's busy work because there's nothing much else to do.
Really mind boggling how almost every survival game devs decide to do this shit
I use trainers for this. Trainers for no hunger, thirst, ect.
Possible coop stream of this Saturday evening :)
Mack, what's your take on RUclips trying to drum up excitement for the SOY ROW game in August?🤢
Great video Mack. We love u
Ha ha yes! I was hoping you’d use that song hook!
My daughter played this on minimum settings on my wor lapyand loved it. Look forwards to playing it on a gaming machine with her some day.
Storage quickly becomes a problem with multiple players working on different tasks, the large storage boxes require endgame materials, and the wooden chests have 7 fewer slots than than even a half-chest in minecraft. It feels like you spend 90% of the game searching rows of chests you can't stick labels to...especially frustrating in a game with such a focus on gathering. At the very least a button to sort the contents alphabetically would help. This is one of a few nitpicks with an otherwise great co op gaming experience though!
theres literally signs for that purpose?
Good thing this game has mods that address those issues. Also mod that allow to modify stack sizes, that i find actually more useful that container size mods.
I see you went with the Stealth Archer build, Dragonborn approves.
For a 20€ game... i dont think that there is much to complain about.
I played the demo version of Raft... so long ago I can't even remember. It may have been as far back as 2014 or 2015. I knew it was being developed into a full game, but I didn't follow it at all. Nice to see they were able to create a fully-fleshed out survival game based on the concepts in that demo.
Mack, I've been watching you for years - you have a great sense of humor.
Everyone else: Hook
British people: hOOOOk
No it's his accent, most British people don't say hewk.
@@rupe82 h000000ek
I was going to post the same.
Funny way to say "hook". It's not even British accent, I've never heard another British person pronounce it "hewk".
@@thesheeepjd I mean it is a British accent, one of many, like all countries large enough have variations in accent.
@@thesheeepjd He's from the north east of England. It's called a Mackem accent which is probably why he goes by the name Mack.
One of my favourite mechanics is the limit to how long you can stay at an island before your wood resources run out. I wouldn't say its a chill game at all , at least not in the early stages on normal diffficulty, given the constant nagging pressures. And the inability to use items straight from your inventory is a huge pain in the ass. But its otherwise a wonderful game.
Wdym lol ur wood is the exact same while ur there
@@tammushican4823 You can hack down the trees on the island for a few more planks, but there's no flotsam drifting past until you start moving again. Oh sure, if you stockpiled a few tonnes of it, you're good to stay on for a while but I rarely have that foresight
@@questor55 ohh i get you, i thought u were saying that the ur wood supplies disappear on there own lol
There are mods for this, one of them is for the food and water issues, makes the game much more enjoyable. You can also cut a lot of the grinding of filling things like the water purifier just by having it next to an open hole, if you are worried about the shark eating your stuff make sure it is across more than one foundation. It's a great game, especially with friends and especially with a few minor mods just to tweak it.
mods are great but a game shouldn't need them to be fun and basic core mechanics should be solved at launch.
The MAN eating sharks!? Did Raft just do a sexism? REEEEEEeeeeeeee :D
Excellent Lonely Island use. Exactly what I was thinking as you were talking
Bought this when it first came out years ago and I still enjoy it. Great game... It's like the movie "Waterworld" :)
For the devs sake I hope it financially does better than waterworks
Finally got around to playing this after picking it up on sale.. What a great little gem - 90hrs of awesome.
Me and a few friends started this a while ago, can't wait to finally finish it!
Loving the videos as always Mack. I just got a gaming PC in November and with the steam sale on I have been going back through your channel to find all the games I forgot about or thought I would never be able to play cause I had no PC and have managed to get a lot of awesome games thanks to your videos. Hades was my most recent pickup but this could be fun just to chill with as you said. Keep up the awesome work :)
Mack this review is later then the last time I called ol Meg. Love ya keep on keeping on. Life's a garden......
Waterworld The Game
I refunded the game after an hour, I could not put up with constant grind for food and water, I normally love this kind of game but they have the grind set way to high for me. You would have thought after so long in early access it would have been far better balanced. Shame because I can see there is a great game in there.
The Forrest had the food and drink levels about right for me, You always needed to have supplies but you could go more than 30 seconds on a drink and some food before needing to gather more.
same with me. the grind was rediculous.
The Forest was superb
I honestly don't get that and assume that you aren't beyond 3+ hours of gameplay, the start is challenging yes but once you have some plants on which foods grow, can kill the bird that is attracted to them and have the glass using water purifier, you have water and food coming out of the ass basically and needing to build 5 large containers to not just throw everything away...
Food and water are a problem early game only. Literally 2 hours later water and food become a no problem once you start farming and getting a good water purifier.
A lot of the complaints about "grinding" can be automated as the game progress though.
Like the water thing you were saying. You will eventually craft water pumps, electric purifier, and pipes to send to devices. You won't have to fill up your cup with sea water and bring to purifier any more. And the batteries can be recharged as well, making the whole water supply completely automated AND free of any resources.
Great game, awesome review!))) Thanks Mack!
Played the beta last year. It's fun if you play it with friends not so much solo.
Yep, hated it Solo, would rather play Subnautica.
I too am starving after sitting my chair every 2 hours no matter how much I eat.
man the video games industry is in dire straits
Good review! I think I’ll probably get this game. Don’t know if it’s just me getting older but I’ve been feeling less into competitive gaming recently. Im finding strategy, survival, co-op games and simulators to be more enjoyable. So I’ve been looking for new games and Raft seems like one I’ve been looking for! Thanks!
Feel like you missed a lot tbh. Like they added an in-depth fishing mechanic. And the grind is more like a learning curve will you play you’ll find you can do that sort of stuff very quickly And end game you can automates a lot of stuff. There’s boss fights and lots of Hidden treasures. And the raft can be highly customisable I think it’s more of a 8.5 best coop game out there lots to do and very repairable. I do agree there’s Some clunkiness
Great little game Raft
So a friend bought this game for me cuz he wanted to play with me. Thanks bud. But i quickly realized that the food and water drainage is a massive issue. were eating 10 fish a day each. i hope there will be a setting to reduce this. For now im gonna get a mod, just to reduce the consumption cuz its waaaaay to annoying.
I dunno if you'll read this comment Mack, but I think you should revisit a game called SQUAD. It's been a while since you played it and I think this game deserves a proper review
also people, for things that are becoming a chore, there are some great mods out there to if you want progress faster in the story and dont do the same things over and over again.
good work mack. The in the water graphics look really bad but i loved the forest ....and sub nautica so might have a go....
I would once again like to recommend Against The Storm.
i know this isnt a excuse as the the game should have it in.. but there are mods that help with customizing your world like that
Looks cool.
Trying to get into this game many times, but the food and drink meters are relentless and I just can't do it without feeling like taking a nap.
Maybe after they fix the bulimic food requirements in "normal"
Food and water are only annoying when you are in early game. Later on, proper meals and proper drinks are really strong and it would last you the whole day without eating anything else. You should still prepare the food for any story island though because they can last several days. But food never spoils. My complaint about this game is on the size of story island. Starting from the 3rd island onwards, they became too big with too much space for exploration without any substantial loot so most people would be exploring every corner of the island knowing that there is likely nothing but we do it anyway to make sure. It gets repetitive when you are opening the drawers of caravans for the 100th time, find nothing and you feel like you still have to open them all in case there is something. They should just make those drawers uninteractable instead and just pile the smaller rewards together more like in suitcases/safes. The non-story line island are also repetitive as there are only so many variants of that islands, instead of autogenerating thousands of possibilities, they are using only a few hand-crafted ones. With all that said, I still like this game a lot for its nice locations but they do overstay their welcome.
Will you be reviewing Chivalry 2 before the end of the sale Mack?
YO, HE'S ON A BOAT
Just put your purifier on the edge so you don’t have to move to fill it lol
looks canny interesting like TBH. I like the idea of having a floating hoose and that. is it any good for a single player though? I'm a total, billy no mates, so I will want to play it solo.
I'm currently solo'ing V Rising and absolutely loving it however, and I loved Valheim solo as well... Hoping this will graft as well.
PS: in case you hadn't realised, I'm trying to let you know that I'm also from the auld Toon, ha ha.
Right as the steam sale rolls around, impeccable timing Mack, cheers mate!
Amazing survival game, imo. Also has modding support(with different mods addressing all the issues mentioned in video).
Only issue i have with it is the fact advanced stuff is locked behind campaign progression. So by the time you get the best stuff there is really no point in continuing playing. Unless you are into whole creative part and just building floating palaces.
A few months back i got to Tangaroa, latest location that was released and stopped, as there was nothing left to do. Now definitely will give it another go.
Disliked for calling raft a boat.😋 It is a not a boat, rafts are their own classification. Just like ships are not same thing as boats.
Kenshi review
Don't think I can give this game another chance after watching some streamers. The shark is still so annoying and now there are birds dropping huge rocks at you combine this with the hunger, thirst and storage problems I just can't. It's not long now until Sons of the forest is out and I would rather spend my time on that.
Not sure if they've improved the shark but that's what ruined the game for me. Yes it should be present but it harassed me that much in each game I started I couldn't be arsed with the bullshit. I loved The Forest, Valheim, Subnautica - but not this I reckon it'd be better as a group.
You need gear so you wont die for the shark. Also gear makes you swim faster and have more air underwater. So its an issue that will go away. Also birds dropping rocks are just on some random islands and can be killed so it doesnt bother you. You need gear and for gear you need to grind.
I'm done with survival games. I recently played Green Hell and it's put me off them for life with its gameplay highlights including chopping big sticks into small sticks and picking each up individually.
I still stand by my own opinion that the best survival game out there is Darkwood
Mack where is Sekiro review
I doubt he'll review that now just like the Kenshi review that has been requested so many times.
The graphics on this remind me of Grounded, looks very promising
Till a storm comes and washes it all away?
awesome game until one day you long in and your boat is gone and youre just floating in the water after 12hrs of progression. Fun game though
Thats why you wont leave your raft. The raft is the center point. Everything outside certain radius will get despawned.
refunded this game after 2 hours. super grindy. leave the raft for an island and seagulls eat all my fuckin seeds and shark breaks my raft. such a grind as you need to permanently be baking potatoes and fish just to keep the food bar up. used the refund to buy inscription and I'm much happier.
It's strange seeing a normal person play this after Lets Game it Out has bent it over several times.
"Hey there it's Josh"
(sharks and physics start screaming)
I've played this since it entered early access and I hoped the eating and drinking would be altered a bit.. I have to eat three big catfishes daily and four bottles worth of water. How come I'm not obese? Great game though. Reminds me of Waterworld.
Summer Memories review please Mack.
Oh that's interesting, so games do come out of Alpha at some point???
Sounds like fun, but too much crap for me to deal with. I could watch someone play it though.
Edit: lol Lonely Island .."got mah flippy floppies"🎶
Mack, do Green hell please 😊❤️
What's a hewk?
Hey Mack, just a suggestion. I'd really like if you could say while you're telling it's 'co-op', is it matchmaking or friends only or both? I'd assume in a game like this it's the latter, as in you uhave to have friends on your list to invite to. Any time I'd like a co-op game I need to know if it has matchmaking or LFG systems as I don't have any online friends (or real life that would be able to play).
You host server for friends. Friends need to be added to steam etc i think. No dedicated servers everyone can join.
@@migidid Thanks so much!!
I think whilst the premise of the game really shows promise, it's gone through the entirety of early access with the terrible food and water balance.
I shouldn't have to eat 4 entire water melons to be full. I should'nt then burn off those watermelons in a matter of minutes.
I'm pretty sure the main protagonist has worms...
Really wasn't a fan of this one, picked it up and refunded it ages ago. Got the impression it was MP centric and I'm an unsociable C***
@@applecorp I love the idea, I particularly enjoy Survival games (I used to hate them) but it was an exercise in ball crushing frustration for me.
So it is actually a city builder.
I love the look of these games but underwater parts of games scare the shit out of me. I legit won't be able to play it. Yet I can swim in the ocean off of a boat no worries
How’s the arm??
Not so bad, it's my leg thats the issue atm, pinched my sciatic nerve, not been able to use it properly for nearly 3 weeks
@@WorthABuyreviews I'm sorry to hear that! Take it easy and I hope it gets better soon!
I feel like difficulty settings are always awful in survival games, should be one setting which is devs idea on how game should play, and then it should be fully customisable
I live in a raft in real life, it is called "Europe" and i hope it doesn't sink.
Look guys they made Minecraft Skyblock its own game
actually are you from Durham or maybe as far down as Teesside? I thought you were a fellow Geordie at first, but I think maybe you're from slightly more South than me judging by the accent.
Survival games are so unrealistic , I eat 1 microwave dinner and I’m full for 3 days in real life
This sounds like a nightmare, any game where I have to eat to survive is no from me. I remember playing the Sims when it first came out, having to eat, clean the house and put the bin out. That's what I do everyday in real life so why would I want to do that in game!
Rust is pretty fair with eating and drinking at least on custom servers
is there dynamic weather, does your raft have to survive a storm?
Storms yes but it wont affect your raft.
a fissin rot with a hûk on it
There's 5 difficulties
Seems more like work than fun.
Mack Will Thumb Up This Crap But Thumb Down Games Like Sniper Elite 5
The Man Is Mad
bought it after this review but it's not that good long term i'd say.
hundreds of survival games, all more garbage than the other. except maybe subnautica, that was different.
Yes the stupid food meter consumption on normal is what put me off from the game. It's ridiculous. It is NOT a relaxing crafting experience for me if you need to spend 70% of the early game just eating.
Almost every survival game suffers from needing more options. And that's where mods come in.
Sad to say I need to depend on a 3rd party to make the game more enjoyable...
Tried to get into this game like 3 times and couldnt, it gets really boring for me always.
The radio is the best in the game! Plays same set of 5min over and over again and the music is total trash xD
this game would be better with x-ray vision....
Do Grounded!
Hewk
Still has no controller support 🙄
mack can u review the quarry cos idk if i wana buy it yet?
Day 1 of asking for hardspace shipbreaker
I found the game incredibly boring , the novelty runs out on me after a day. To compare it to something it has maybe 1/4 the fun of VRising's crafting systems and progression , but non of the combat or exploration fun Vrising has.
I find myself running back and forward and collecting things from the 100 of collector traps and just drinking and eating occasionally.
Weapons and Tools have terrible durability , so you are forced back into that loop over and over again. So when you come back to the game the next day , if you're anything like me a gamer that doesn't like their time commitment taken advantage of with rather boring mechanics.
This extends to every mechanic in this game , it's not a survival experience , it's "put up with the inconvenience" type of game.
If you want to plant food you need to protect the seeds , if you want metals , you need to get bitten by the shark and the fact that it's there isn't the problem.
The problem is that the respawn of the shark and birds is very fast , so no matter what you get very little peace of mind.
To me it's a downvote , it reminds me too much of real life inconveniences , whenever you want to do something for yourself always something in your way sort of feel.
I don't even craft the breathing and swimming apparatus , because it instantly breaks apart.
Fuck raft tbh
A played this for like 4 or 5 hours straight when I picked it up back in March or something. Paused the game to go do something and when I came back I discovered there is no pause in the game! Had died of hunger/thirst and all my items had despawned. Have wanted to get back into it but just haven't gotten around to it.
The raft is the center point so if you leave it and it gets away everything starts to despawn soon. Only stuff in the raft will remain. No pause but you can make bed and sleep on it for the while. or just go to main menu and everything will stop!
The food and water needs system has been a bit off since the initial EA launch. Seems they didn't listen to the players. It just needs a small adjustment.
Exploring the big story islands/cruise ship wasn't fun at all imo. The puzzles and combat was horrible.
you can always use cheats; to ease the grind
Duping is quite easy too!
Not really 😂😂👍
They're absolutely losing sales because they don't/didn't want to bother with game customization sliders/options. I can only guess that they're holding back to figure out some monetization schemes for future "updates."
I think this might be the most boring survival game ever made, so that's an achievement at least.
There are so many Raft games you dont know which one to get, but worry not! They are all garbage.
*Was going to buy it until I found out you only have 2 characters to choose from, the miIitant Iesbian or some bIack dude & I was like nah I'll pass.*
Boring busy simulator for jobless people.
