Kaoru Akimoto "Dress Down" is a work recorded in the album "cologne" released in 1986.
She made her debut from JVC music with the single ""paradox"" in 1985, released her 1st album "Cologne" in 1986, and she participated as a vocalist with Yurie Kokubu in "SHAMBARA" formed by "CASIOPEA" members Tetsuo Sakurai and Akira Jimbo in 1989.
After she released her single "Hitomi ni utsushite(Reflected in the Eyes)" in 1991,she continued her activities such as chorus work in the studio and tour, songwriting for other artists.

The 80's is another universe that we will never reach again.The music back then was from another dimension. Exciting!!!
This is just the epitome of the 80s popular music as a whole, Japan's contribution to the decade's aesthetic is unfathomable.
So the folk who own this gem actually care about redistributing it to a new generation, neat. BTW for those of you looking for quality, Im pretty sure this is one of the highest quality recordings of Dress Down since it was uploaded by the people who own the rights to it.
Actually i wouldn't doubt it was more likely for the money, it's a hit anyway.

The only minor nitpick is that this video replaced the album version of "Dress Down" on the automatically generated "Cologne" playlist. When listing to the album, there's no longer the original transition between "Narcissist" and "Dress Down".
Still a very minor nitpick, and can be replicated using other uploads of the song.

first time hearing this song i like it i might actually start listening to city pop music.
The music fits in with with many scenes such as action or elevator type scenes when the characters are hanging out on a train whilst doing random stuff whilst waiting. Japan has a great range of music but you never see it outside of Japanese material. Even without the lyrics written up, the music just sucks you in.
I gotta say though, this upload does not sound like high quality to me. I think it is a remaster, the compression sounds much heavier than the flac I have been listening to for years.
That one video is completely effed up audio quality vise... i hope they'll take it down.
I bought this cd and I can confirm, this album takes night driving to a whole new level. I drove through the campus hood in my town and got lots of inquisitive looks lol.

Kaoru Akimoto maybe didn't pursue a music career, but when she did decide to drop music, she dropped GOLD. Dress Down is so special, from the music to the singing. Her voice is so mature and soulful, actually an excellent singer!
A great song to listen to after this is Junko Yagami's BAY CITY. Junko is another PHENOMENAL City pop singer known for her siren-like voice.

Fun bit for anyone who really likes this song: There's a song that goes before this one called ナルシスト (Narcissist) that fades out into the intro to Dress Down. It's really great and I'd highly advise everyone to check it out.
That is probably because they were all on one music device and it just fades/transitions into the other

This is the first time i listened to a piece from Kaoru Akimoto, thanks to a RUclips ad, this is the first time an ad would introduce me to an 80s City Pop song, cause usually the ad would just advertise modern pop or RnB songs, and i'm glad it did, cause now i have more 80s city pop singers to listen to! All this time i have been listening to Tatsuro Yamashita, Mariya Takeuchi, Tomoko Aran, Junko Ohashi, Junko Yagami, Yurie Kokubu, Meiko Nakahara, Miki Matsubara, Momoko Kikuchi, and many more, so this addition is a welcomed one. I love the crescendo of the intro. The kind of ominous, psychedelic tension then drops into the dance-able city pop style beat fans of this genre know and love with the twist of the traditional Japanese notes and instrument on top. This song feels so intimate, like the intimacy you get in a dimly lit, small bar and you're right against the stage, the singer is dancing and singing right up your nose. The vibe is just so good. Such a great window of the kind of sexuality and rawness of the 80s.
I also heard this was used in a hentai and it's fitting. I don't know which one though. It is THE vibe for a 90s hentai. Sleezy ecstacy, desire, and some loneliness.

地元ではNHKしか無かったFM局が沢山有って「都会だなぁ」（笑）と思った事でした。
その沢山有ったFM放送局で平成元年の6月のとある日に、
オーディオショップのチューナー展示スペースで聴いたのがこの曲。
曲名とアーティスト名はアナウンスされたものの、有賀啓雄、なんて名前は知りませんでした。
しかし、好きなジャンルのCDアルバムを購入して行く内に著名なプロデューサー、アレンジャーとしても素晴らしい方だと知りました。
ただ、その時には既に亡くなられて居ましたが...。
でも、鈴木雅之さんを初めとして著名なアーティストのアルバムには必ず名前が載って居る程才能が有る方です。
一度、聴いてみる事をお勧めしますね。
街でこんな曲流れてたら、そりゃ髪固めてスーツ着てギラギラのセドリックでネーチャン探すわな。
