I like how I was watching a Retro Game Corps video the other day about the RP4 where Russ was saying how we're due for a new Retroid any day now and, boom. It's like he summoned it.
hehe this was my comment on that video. Lets see if I can go 4/4 @thebobizzle 7 days ago My moneys on a Retroid Pocket Mini and a Mini Flip. AYN will announce the Odin 3 with Gen 3 Snapdragon. Then Retroid will announce RP5 with Gen 2 Snapdragon.
Specs confirmed: 3.7" OLED 4:3 screen with 1280x960 res, curious size and I think that's the first time they're using OLED screens on a Retroid if I'm not mistaken
I have taken apart so many handheld retro consoles. Retroid clearly has superior build quality compared to the competition - can't wait to order one of these!
I've only had experience with retroid and Anbernic, my last experience with the Anbernic SP model was terrible. The build quality felt abysmal and the battery placement was... Interesting. Could immediately tell Retroid had a better build quality
If they somehow managed to fit the 4pro specs into the smaller size I'm sold. Otherwise- (if its weaker) they are competing with a very crowded segment. I love the ergonomic grips, the 4:3 screen and the front firing speakers. Great job dev team! If I could make 1 request (other than flip2) it would be make a first party grip/flip cover- like the ones from Etsy. I never leave home without mine, but the 3D print isn't as good quality as what you all could do.
If it has the same specs, as the full blown, RP five done, I’m definitely in! I much prefer the Retroid pocket four model style… But if it’s more powerful and more pocket able… I can play switch games… Oh, boy :-)
Eu gosto da retroid, pois ela não faz desesperadamente muitos dispositivos a cada semana e sempre estuda bem antes de lançar novos dispositivos, isso me passa mais confiança que a anbernic e outras marcas.
Same. If it's 3.5", I'm going to go mad. All that most of us really want is a 4 inch or larger 4:3 screen with a powerful enough chipset to play PS2 and GC. If the RG Cube can exist, so can something similar with a 4:3 screen.
Retroid listened to me and attacked first. I emailed both Retroid and Anbernic nearly a year ago that whoever made the first affordable Linux based ARM handheld that can play PS2 and GameCube will dominate the non Nintendo gaming handheld market. Steam deck is the most successful and well known of the major Linux handheld but it's based on X86 architecture and much more expensive. Anbernic with their Rg353 series can barely play Dreamcast and PSP . Miyoo Mini and Onion OS have brought in a lot of gamers from the older generation mainly due to the Linux architecture allowing for custom firmware. And now Retroid with their Pocket Mini and Pocket 5 with support for Linux takes this experience to another level. People are overlooking this most important aspect. Yes it may be on similar power level to D1100 , but the ability to dual boot Linux and have power to play PS2 and GameCube for this price and size is monumental. At the heart of this rationale and going back to Onion OS, not everyone is a fan of Android. Great job Retroid.
Saw this in another video and was excited to get one. Then someone mentioned there that the music here is probably not paid since you can hear the ad on it and had to come check it myself. Turns out that this is true and now the excitement is totally gone because if this is a thing, I can't imagine what more is there. Thanks!
@@Jovencito_Frankestein ikr, i was upset with no indigo, and just like u fell in Love with this one only to not see it? The closest thing was orange so i went with that
If that's the case, this is an interesting mix between the RP2S and Aya Neo Pocket Air. With the right chipset and price, it'd be very close to the perfect retro handheld.
Id just love a handheld that finally had a full size HDMI port, and/or better software around transitioning between handheld controls and a bluetooth controller.
Was hoping for a flip successor myself. No fun sticking a handheld console in my pocket when it has joysticks, unless it has a lid. Can kinda do this with the 2S and the 3D printed case in Etsy, but its kinda jank
If it's going to be more powerful than regular Retroid Pocket 4 then I'm in! I'm craving for such a small powerful handheld for a long time. 3.7" screen and 4:3 aspect ratio is perfect for me. Although, I never though you will release full glass front panel like that.
@@SpoonTaco compared to this, I rather have those big black bezel than full glass front panel actually. Full glass front panel is beautiful but it will get dirty easily and it's going to be difficult to put full screen protector on it. But hey, it is what it is.
Whyyy it was almost perfect! ... it's too small to be powerful enough. We need THIS with a 4" + screen size and play GC and PS2 library and that's it, the quest for the perfect handled is over!
I am very interested in this. I've been waiting a long time for a 4:3 OLED handheld. The Ayaneo DMG looks nice but is too expensive. Hopefully this comes in well under $200.
Holy shit, this ticks every box of stupid personal nitpicks for my ideal 4:3 handheld! I've been dreaming for a company to release a device with a 960p screen so I could play my 4:3 games with 2x 480p and 4x 240p with perfect integer scaling. Now, realistically, due to its size I doubt it'd be powerful enough to run the more demanding emulators at double res (or even at all), but it's alright. I can wait s'more until one that can launches.
Looks like it will be way more comfortable to hold than the 2S, and hopefully a little faster. Would be cool to see Retroid Pocket 4 (non-Pro) specs in a device that small.
While I've always liked the small, boxy design of the 2 models, this one looks like it might be more comfortable to hold. I always appreciate the speakers being front-facing instead of below like the 3/4 models. I have a rubber cap on the analog stick of my 2S and sometimes movement gets obstructed. Hopefully that won't be as much an issue with this one.
Aw man, this could be "the one". My 2S is my absolute favorite handheld, but I always wished I could bump up the power JUST a bit so it would have better gamecube and ps2 coverage. Similar sized medium screen, 4:3(!!!), higher resolution, really hope this is it and the price is right.

Having a 960p OLED screen and dpad on top and ergonomic grips instantly makes it the top pick in the weaker 4:3 handheld bracket
That's a great suggestion. Also, people love the official accessories - I bet the grips and cases sell really well
You should make a new retroid pocket with 5”+ display that’s 4:3. Same width as the pocket 4 but taller and bezel-less. That would be a dream device.
