The correct name for the G chord would be just a G major chord, I wouldn't be an add 9 because the D note (3rd fret of the B string) is part of the chord G B D 😁

Hey Party Marty _ I am a beginner that is teaching in a retirement community recently I had a request to play a song by the turtles called happy together sadly I saw that there is a B major chord in that song the group knows how to play the basic easy major chords and a few of the minor chords can you help me so that we can play Happy Together by The Turtles using simple major chords and somehow allowing the beginners of the beginners LOL to avoid the B major thank you very much look forward to more of your music and I'm learning from you and do appreciate it
I agree with beakes28 below, B7 is a 4 finger chord but is usually a good substitute and will work in this case. Give it a try and let me know how you made out, and thanx to Beakes for suggesting it

Yup, it's a tricky one but it's pretty much the same through the whole song. Doug Lee B Maj can be tough for new strummers. Look up the B7 (4 fingers) you can usually get away with subbing with that.
