- Its time to Durability Test the OnePlus 12. Get a 4-week trial, free postage, and a digital scale at www.Stamps.com/JERRYRIG Thanks to Stamps.com for sponsoring the show! The OnePlus 12 has a new feature called Aqua Touch - which supposedly allows their new flagship smartphone to work in wet environments or even in the rain. Today we put the OnePlus Aqua touch Glass up against a $1300 dollar Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and an iPhone 15 Pro to see which smartphone can truly win smartphone of the year in Atlantis. (Come on, you know I had to put an Aquaman joke in here somewhere...)

I think it's because the way both OS handles touch. Apple is inferior in this aspect. Idk why but they keep the touch area narrower for any interaction.
And why did I read that in Siri voice 😅😅

2:40 I was thoroughly surprised to find Zack use swipe typing to test the responsiveness of the screen.
It appears that in the age of enormous phones, there are some of us who still use swipe typing.
swipe typing is the way to go! there are options to make the keyboard smaller too
I find it more useful on large displays, changing phone messes with your muscle memory and swipe typing kinda stops that
I use swipe typing and it’s very natural one handed on my iPhone 15 Pro. Funny to see how bad the iPhone performs in the water touch test, seems about right
When you're using a touch screen for typing swipe typing is the fastest way to type (unless the auto correct is garbage)

it's honestly not that bad. The iPhone 15 Pro is an amazing smartphone. If anything they deserve shit for how bad Siri still is.
iPhones are always about 5 years behind flagship android phones. iPhone didn't get wireless charging . OLED. Stereo speakers. Haptic feed back, swipe to type, quick charging and many other features until 6 years after androids had it. Androids had type c for 7 years now . Apple just got it this year. Apple in few years: We have brand new display technology that works when wet. We call it *insert dumb PR name*. Fans: Omg such innovation, never seen before.
Thank u hitman for the aqua touch information
5:01 Sometimes in a very dim light environment we can see this by our eyes too. But probably some leakage around near IR spectrum & not pure IR itself as otherwise it’d seem like a flashbulb going on & off.
As a kid I remember holding a remote to my eyes & pressing the buttons trying to see that reddish glow. Thank goodness there were no keychain lasers & stuff around in those days 💀😂🥲
Can you test the ulefones
More soecificly the power armor 18T, they are marketed as being durable and it also has a thermal camera
I just want to say that Aquatouch is a feature I didn't know I needed. I can change media or respond to messages on my phone with wet hands while doing dishes or after a sweaty run.
I honestly dislike the camera face a lot though. It's gaudy and smudges a lot when trying to balance the phone in hand that already feels top-heavy.
The Aqua touch feature seems to be a game changer, especially against the iPhone 15 Pro. It's also nice to see such durability in a lower priced flagship. I'll keep an eye on OnePlus next releases.
reviewers seem to like the water touch thing on the 1+ phone, and no one cared when Sony basically had the same thing since Xperia V lol
Man I hate how underrated Sony phones are. They just have some of the coolest features for a phone. Too bad their marketing team is not that great
Probably because Sony is so bad at marketing.
Now Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) is the entire SONY Marketing Department-- He has created many videos highlighting SONY mobile phone innovations! 😊
Not only bad marketing but also their computational photography is pretty bad... Imagine having the best sensors and camera hardware in a phone where you can capture literally the most stunning photos but only by adjusting each and every setting every single time like a DSLR or mirrorless... I mean, sony should focus on open and snap more, that would create an impact IMO
Also, 4K display is just waste of resources... I know the display is crisp but 1440 is very fine for that, getting a 4k display in a phone for some $1500+ is insane
Apple iPhone 16 launch: We introduce a brand new feature called "Magic touch"😂
Hey @JerryRigEverything, I know you have a soft spot for science and methodology as well as building cool stuff. Do you think making a small rig that bends the phone and shows the amount of newton meters of force? It would be cool to see how tough they really are! Keep up the amazing work!
He might make a video where he specifically takes a bunch of phones and does that to them. But for what is supposed to be a basic review for the average consumer, that is way too much detail
hi love your vids bro
Hey Jerry, could you repeat the test using the same parameters for each device?
It seems the cases you used on the others phones, notably the iPhone, had very large lips causing water to pool inconsistently between all devices which could cause a high level of inaccuracy on your tests.
Also were all screens new for all devices? It seems either you had some type of grease or oil very visible on the iPhone screen after your spray down which would cause an error with any form of testing.
Perhaps this was the one you used as a daily driver and potentially during testing wore through areas of the oleophobic coating in a premature manner due to your testing. Maybe even you perhaps had some unintentional residue there for some other reason but personally when my phone is clean I haven’t experience issues consistent with the ones you’ve demonstrated here in your video.
I’ve included the timestamp showing the excessive accumulation toward the center of the screen and near the H key which does not appear present in any other which leads me to believe some manner of residue was present prior to your testing and may have led to possibly unintentional erroneous results. 3:13
I agree on repeating the test, although I would like to mention that at 2:38 you can see the drops around the H key in the reflection clearly, which do not seem excessive or pooled, and I can't imagine laying it back down would cause much change. The contrast you're seeing at 3:13 could also be due to the larger ratio of water accumulated under his finger in comparison to the smaller screen size, and the high screen reflectivity making it more noticeable in comparison.
What I believe is a more likely culprit is the angle at which Zach sprayed the Samsung, where you can see the droplets at the bottom of the screen are a lot finer than those at the top. He seemingly double takes, gesturing his hand to spray the bottom of the screen, before returning to the iPhone and sticking with his 2 spray policy at 2:32, instead of applying a more even coverage. This is likely due to the screen on the Samsung being so much bigger than the iPhone, and in keeping the spray equidistant, he was not able to achieve full coverage, particularly around the keyboard area being tested unfortunately, and would amount to a large contrast in usability. In fact, the pan at 2:36 suggests that, if you were to split the keyboard into a set of two triangles, the bottom right section of the keyboard is entirely clean.
From other reviews I've seen, the Samsung and iPhone should behave similarly in this scenario, so even though the iPhone is seemingly exhibiting correct behaviour, a better comparison to the Galaxy is warranted. Anecdotally, I have noticed my iPhone performs worse than my older OnePlus and newer Pixel when it gets water on it, however; the difference is certainly not as stark as shown, and I don't imagine the Samsung would be holding up quite this well. Such, the error seems to be with it - rather than the iPhone or OnePlus.
I have a case on mine that cover the camera glass with cut out for the camera nice video
I heard the little pop during the bend test and that made me so freaking nervous
Thank you so much jerry rig, you are always the best
I drive a motorcycle in the UK so rain gets on my phone alot 😅. the OP12 aquatouch works perfectly. It's not about typing with the screen wet, what most phones get wrong is confusing drops falling on the screen as fingers.
Isn't the description missing a shop link? Maybe I just misunderstood the last part because my english is not great, but a direct link to that knife would help many buyers IMO (even though I currently don't need it)

FINALLY! Since OnePlus 9, they recovered their way. Guess that eventually go to OP12, I have a 2nd hang OP 9 and is a wonder.
So I have normal tempered glass protector down first, then hydrogel on top of it and the responsiveness change is hardly noticeable!!! Just wanted to try it for a second but assumed I would have to remove it but it’s great! Yes these two screen protectors seem to work together very well with the hydrogel on top. Very confident about handing my phone over to someone in video village now 😁

From what I've seen pretty much all modern Androids are quite capable of functioning just fine in the rain. The only reason you get a hyper durable construction grade work phone or similar is if you work in an industry where you need your phone to be as durable as absolutely possible
the dust proof part where intresting for me. phones kinda dislike getting filled with metal shavings.
@@superbrain3848 pretty much all modern phones are almost immune to dust ingress. There are a couple like some folding phones, but if you get any flagship from any major brand you should be fine on dust or metal shavings or similar
Please make a teardown case for this phone!

Watching this on my OnePlus 12 😀 I went all-in on the OP ecosystem and I'm really enjoying everything. The charging speed is ludicrous!!
The IR detection may not work on some Android phones and ALL iPhones 7 and newer as Apple added an IR filter on the back camera. You can still do it with the selfie cam on most. You should check your phone with a known working remote. Bonus tip is you can use that ability to check for hidden cameras as they used the same kind of light to see in the dark.
