Nice - I actually heard you on 10m this morning, nice big signal... sadly I was on calls most of the day... But your right 10 is open in the morning.. Good luck. 73s and Good DX Chris. from W8BFO.
Very cool! I had no idea until recently that technicians could use voice on part of 10 meters! Looking forward to getting an HF radio and working on my general license.
Thanks for sharing this sir, it's an encouragement for us new to HF. I 'm a class "C" licensed here in my country equivalent to your Technician license. Since I don't have the means for expensive radios all I have is an old but in good condition HR2510, like you siad, try it and you'll never know. And that is what I'm gonna do 10 to 20 watts can go a long way. Again, thank you sir and advance Happy New Year to you and you family.
The antenna makes VASTLY more difference than the radio. 3db is a doubling of power, so your 10 watt radio is a 20 watt radio just by adding 3db gain on the antenna. 6 db is generally 1 "S" unit; so 4 times the power gets you ONE S-unit. Sometimes you need it, often you don't. Where it can make a difference is the "pile up" when 20 people are calling one person obviously the loudest gets through BUT skilled operators work "split" where they are actually listening, 5 KHz up for instance, and you cleverly answer (transmit) the call 5 KHz up and make contact despite the pile up.
@@thomasmaughan4798 You are absolutly correct sir., it's all in the antenna. Made contacts in Europe with someone with a 1kw radio and 6 element yagi against my 20 watts and a rrotatable dipole. But then again, mother nature plays a big role. 73.
Hi, Chris. Really enjoy your videos. During the 10 meter contest, I worked 44 stations, 28 DX and the rest stateside. Worked into NA, SA, EU and AF. Most afternoons, there are PY’s and LU’s aplenty, from here in Maryland. 10 sounds open to me! 73 de Mike K3CXG.
I am one of those LU!! Ultimately, the propagation is very good. up to 40m I was able to hear speaking in English on New Year's Eve. Greetings from LU2ASV
It looks like a Yaesu FT-710aess. Someone let one for me to service it back in May of 2023. I found nothing wrong with it. But I can not get in contact with the owner. I still have the radio today, the 18th of September. I have tried the telephone number and it is disconnected. I tried the email and there is no response.
@@k2cjbradio Oh. I use paper. To me radio is radio and computers are computers. There are no computers in my shack. To each his own. My shack has ONLY American made in it. Regards.
"Why does anybody need a keyboard for doing ham radio?" Digital modes, RTTY (Radio Teletype). Logging. Digital modes will often get through when voice modes do not stand a chance.
@@thomasmaughan4798 Oh well, I guess I'm old school. CW will get through when voice does not. Logging is done in a log book. RTTY is done with a teletype machine. I'm as good as they come on a computer. But if I want to run a computer I will shut off the radio and go run the computer. I don't mix the 2. Keep on like that and the computer will eventually antiquate radio altogether. I'll fight that day off with all my might. Give me a log book and a wall of QSL cards any day.
Leave it to some character in Idaho to make it so you couldn’t get your initials in your call sign in your home district. I really wish the FCC would bring back changing call areas in your call sign when you move vanity call or not. Also stop using vanity call signs outside of the stations home call district.
