This is quite literally me with exactly this section of the Maple Leaf Rag, only it’s the bit just before with the LH Eb/F# jumps… no matter how many years I try I will never hit the right note lmao
For me on this song it's the D to F# part! Can never get it the first time, but it's fine on the repeat!
The most beautiful spot in this piece
It’s impressive to hear this played fast, but I enjoy ragtime the way it was intended: slowly with feeling. It really draws out the rich chords and the syncopation and adds a depth that fast and staccato just doesn’t convey. So few players play it that way that it REALLY turns heads

Same. It’s something about the run in the left hand with the syncopation that messes me up every time.
I just improvised the third verse of th maple leaf rag because that part was always confusing for me. The same goes for t he third verse in the pine apple rag.

I can play this at a slower pace. but I have never been able to do that part right. It is very hard. Those huge left hand jumps gave me problems too but maybe it's because I play accordion and my left hand is only used to buttons

Bruh it's always the turn overs!!! Ugh 😫 lol as a classical double bassists even still it the melodic solo turn overs and/or repetitive and evaded cadence's that will forever be an issue
Rags are much more effective played a bit slower. They must never sound rushed. A balanced approach to tempo is important

Great playing anyway!! I hear you about those single lines in a piece you used to know every note by heart, but I have to speed up rather than slow down to make it through those parts. Something about that muscle memory lol
Then you should go back, take a close look at the music and slow instead. If you can't play it slowly, you really don't know it.

I think if she played it at the normal speed, she would not have messed it up and she wanted to show the mess up. But you are also right. It's way too fast.
