Ive got a 154 as well. It's tore all apart though. It was a resto project that got put on hold several years ago now 😞 I did that 185 back in like 2008 I think.
thank you. all 4 of those tires are new, same on the blue one. most of the work on the lo-boy was done in about three months. that was working on it all day every day.
Great Video ! If I was there at that show looking at your Cub I'd be green with envy like Eleverna Bradshaw looking at Granny and Elly May's new mink coats . Beautiful restoration and a great choice in music .
Thanks. I also have a 154 that I just got a couple months ago. Plus a Farmall Super C, 2 John deere 110, John deere lx-172, Cub Cadet 106, Cub Cadet custom, and an excel hustler.
You are a master Painter and Mechanic . There are Photo's at :44sec., 1:25sec.,2:40sec., 3:10sec., 3:15sec., 3:27sec., 4:03sec., 4:12sec., 4:14sec., 4:30sec., 4:34sec., and 4:44sec. These Photo's Really showed how it came together. I would love to have copy's..
nice tractor. im working on a IH cub cadet 147, its a 1971. my other tractor is a 1971 john deere 112.i cant justify having a tractor as large as a cub loboy for my 2 acre lawn but the same generation cub cadets are cool too. i already rebuilt the engine now i have a qa42 blower mounted on it and a NOS 48" deck pan on the way
Cool for restoring it makes me jealous because I want to do some project but don't have the money to buy or invest in the restoration but you should do a video of it running.
No most of them were factory without them, but the hydrolic line are plummed in so all you have to do is put a diverter valve on it and hook up the line. i have a lo-boy 154 with no three point
i recently bought a standard farmall cub, while i like the lo-boy i like even more feeling like im running a farm tractor; which is what the older cubs are small farm tractors. i have a danco C3 60" belly mower, a 54 blade, and a sickle bar. also included weights for front and back and tire chains. tractor has TC hydraulics as well. runs great but doesnt like to start in colder weather. im going to try switching her over to 10W30 instead of the SAE 30. otherwise she's a great little tractor
@TheSaturnV Thank You. Yes I was only 14 when I restored this tractor. I am now 15 years old. during june and july i restored a 1939 allis chalmers b from top to bottom in only 5 weeks.
I've never put any atachment on it but i think that full size attachment will work on them yes. If you would like i could measure the distance between the two arms.
@ad356 thank you, ya i got quite a few old tractors. i think im right around 14 or 15 right now. i got another loboy come cadets, some john deeres, farmalls, an allis,
Its single stage acrylic enamel(mae). but im getting ready to a farmall super c i bought a few months ago and im going to use either urethane(mtk) or base/clear(mbc) i think. probably urethane.
This thing must be a trailer queen than something to use for looking good and work if it was me I would have restored it but then use it for work but i would polish it up and show it sometimes
awsome job man ! ive done a couple of johndeere garden tractors in my time...they are actually kind of fun and you can have your girl mow with them when your done (extra bonus)!LOL
Great Job! I have a Loboy 154 i want to restore, where did you get the paint from? I cant seem to find cub cadet paint, or did you have it mixed for you?
@bulldogmack407Sales thank ya sir, you can get the paint at any case dealer. its Federal Yellow and Power White. or you can go to a PPG paint shop and they can mix it for you, its called cub cadet yellow and cub cadet white if you go that route
*VERY* nice resto. I am doing the same model tractor myself, right now. Trying *desperately* to find a planet gear carrier for mine. Nowhere to be found. The creeper gear unit is hard to come by. BTW... A reverser is available (used) that will reverse the PTO drive and pair it up to 540 applications. Be aware that it remains 18HP rated. You can use regular 3pt attachments but have to go slow. Recommend no larger than 48" gannon, etc. Any parts available???
Do I have to pull the rear or motor to get the shaft out. The only thing it is is its missing a pin on the rear of the clutch. I'll still have to put a new clutch and shaft in it though
No, you do not have to pull either. if I remember correctly, there is a bolt in the front of the shaft you take out and then it slides forward and the clutch comes out. however, it's been since 2008 that I worked on this tractor so it could be slightly different than that.
Great job it makes me jeakous becuase Have projects in mind I want to do because i don't have the money to buy or restore anything, also what did you do with the blade did you keep it and repaint it or what.
@redgreen1990 I still have the front blade for it and i will probably sand blast it and paint it like i did the rest of the tractor, but this is a show tractor so i may just use the blade on my lo-boy 154. i have two of them. 154 and 185
Quick question I can't get my 185 to move. Do you have any idea why? I need a new pilot bearing and throw out bearing for sure but I have no idea what's the problem. I'd also like to find a 3 point and blade
could be a few things. first it could be that the clutch disc itself is worn out so much that it's not engaging. or it could be that the release bearing or pressure plate are bound or froze up so it isn't engaging. now the next and most expensive is that the clutch hub it's self is broken. very common and the biggest draw back to these tractors. it is a cast hub with a pinch bolt to hold it on to the input shaft. cast is brittle and should not be pinch or it will break. terrible design flaw. you can either buy a new hub from IH for around $650 and still have the same problem and probably break the new one as well. what I do and recommend is taking the hub to a machine shop and having a mild steel center made and pressed and braised into the original cast hub. then you have the required cast for the friction material to press against with the flexibility of the mild steel to tighten it to the input shaft without breaking the ears off.
@andrew donohue yeah, i run 10w-30 in some of mine but we got a bulk tank of 15w-40 for diesels and i run that in some of the old tractors that i use like my M and super C
@cw2gtc thank you. if you go to your local IH dealer most of the parts are still available. but i will warn you, you're going to pay out the ass for them. i had a couple several hundred dollar trips to international for parts. but they are genuine.
@3303073522 no sir, it only had around 2500 hours on it when i got it, only has a few more hours then that on it now though, and it ran perfect so all i did to the engine was replace some gaskets, give it a tune up, rebuild the carb on it, and service it of course. the 185 had 18 horse and the 154 were 15. actually the 185 would do pretty good and run some implements pretty decent but you gotta remember the pto's on them spin backwards
Alright. Not all of them have three-points on them, but if you do get one go with the 185 the 154 dosen't hardly have enough power for like a bush hog or something.
@blackjackhp Thank you very much, i realy apreciate it. would you believe me if i told you i was only 14 years old when i restored this last summer? send me your name and address in a message (dont just reply to this comment because then anyone could get it) and i will send you a copy of the pictures when i get some printed off.
I'm with you on that one, once they sold out to mtd they turned to shit. The sad thing is the mtd Cub Cadets are the highest quality mtd built now and they are pieces of shit.
@andrew donohue yeah, i run 10w-30 in some of mine but we got a bulk tank of 15w-40 for diesels and i run that in some of the old tractors that i use like my M and super C
What a beautiful restoration of both cubs. You definitely deserve them, and you have a great piece of history in your garage.
That is a beautiful 185. I bought a 154 last year and I tell ya its a lot of fun to mow with
Ive got a 154 as well. It's tore all apart though. It was a resto project that got put on hold several years ago now 😞 I did that 185 back in like 2008 I think.
@@gibsonman5 Like to find another with no engine so I can do a 3 or 4 cylinder turbo diesel swap to power a 72 deck
thank you. all 4 of those tires are new, same on the blue one. most of the work on the lo-boy was done in about three months. that was working on it all day every day.
This is a nice *Lawn Mower* JUST JOKING, Lo-Boy!!! Nice Job for a 14 year old!

Thank You. I was thinking of making a video off all of my tractors. I will make more of the lo-boy and the custom cub cadet also though.
Really nice job on the restoration. I myself am in the market for a lo boy. This motivated me even more. Thanks
Reel good job. I am restoring a 1970 154 right now. and it is a hand full.
Beautiful job! I used one of these for 32 years mowing my 8 acres....you can't wear these little engines out.

Thanks alot. No bondo in that one either.got all the sheet metal straight.lol(if you remember the bondo half assed work videos.)
Thanks. Its actually better than a cub cadet if you can belive that!
Beautiful work. You are one talented restorer.....and 14?!!!
V ERY nice job on the cub,i cant wait to see more!
super job! I'm looking for a low boy to work the heck out of-- wish i had your talent to do that though!

is that tractor painted with a single stage or a two stage paint? All our jd's were painted with enamel.
Thank You!

+gibsonman5 I'll see if I can slide the coupler back more. I only need about 1/8 of an inch
Thanks i appreciate it!
Great job it makes me jeakous becuase Have projects in mind I want to do because i don't have the money to buy or restore anything, also what did you do with the blade did you keep it and repaint it or what.
I'm well aware of this. But thanks anyways. you can use the fine for things like blades, scoops, ect.
please do, i am thinking of getting my old man one of these, but i dont want his implements to not fit. thanks.

as for a 3 point, I've seen them on ebay before for around 600 bucks I believe. or you could build your own.
+gibsonman5 thanks! I'll still have to take it apart. It isn't terrible for $100.
+STUBBY TRACTOR you only paid $100 for the tractor? lol
+gibsonman5 yep. Golf coarse was gonna scrap it lol. I had to take a golf cart too lol
@andrew donohue yeah, i run 10w-30 in some of mine but we got a bulk tank of 15w-40 for diesels and i run that in some of the old tractors that i use like my M and super C
Yes these do take normal size implements.
How much would it cost to have that done?
@cw2gtc thank you. if you go to your local IH dealer most of the parts are still available. but i will warn you, you're going to pay out the ass for them. i had a couple several hundred dollar trips to international for parts. but they are genuine.

@jet62095 I just gave it a cold start a couple weeks ago, but personally i think making cold start videos is kind of hillbilly.
Thanks!
thanks
